It’s hard to explain why it’s our favorite..it’s just so deep.. “ because sometimes to stay alive you got to kill your mind “ 🎶 I think many of us can relate to it these days

I think one of the reasons we love this song so much is it showcases Tyler’s lyricism. The word play and descriptive metaphors in this song are unreal. Tyler gets a little bummed out when people think this song is about actually having a migraine, when he is pretty clear what the headache represents. But then again, he used his car radio actually getting stolen to go a lot deeper into how it impacted him internally. But it’s also paired with such upbeat melodies. As others have mentioned, this song is a really important connection to The Outside. You can hear a part of Migraine as Tyler and Josh enter the cave. And this song describes what is going on in Tyler’s head, which “makes Pandora’s box contents seem non-violent.” He says that “behind his eyelids is an island of violence” where his mind was shipwrecked with tidal waves and suicidal crazed lions that are trying to eat him. That’s when he says that he can either let the lion win (suicide) or assemble whatever weapons he can find, “because sometimes to stay alive you gotta kill your mind.” It’s such powerful imagery. The island that Tyler and Josh are on in The Outside video is called Voldsøy, which is translated to “island of violence.” And the antlers he gets from Ned are weapons he is now able to use to fight the Bishops. So it’s all interconnected. Before you watch The Outside again, you should watch the video for Chlorine. That’s where we first meet our buddy Ned

As far as I understand it’s about depression. I’m in a bad spell of depression right now and that song helps me so much because I feel less alone hearing it

You understood the happy upbeat sound. It's a positive message in the end. We all feel the anxiety, stress, and depression at times in our lives (some more than others). Yet, sometimes, we need to focus on the positives in our lives -- "kill our minds/thoughts" and use our "weapons" to do it. Everyone's weapons are different -- one of mine was always listening to music! He says we are not alone in this. Truth.

So when Tyler starts the singing part…the music in the background is in The Outside video when they go into the cave….that’s why this video is important in the journey….well one part!✌️😊 so what Tyler is talking about is perseverance….keep going, keep pushing and “know that there’s a hopeful undertone”….a lot of us have struggles, mental or otherwise and “we’ve made it this far, kid”…so might as well find your Clique because we all need help from time to time.🤓

Great reaction. this was one of the first songs of theirs I fell in love with, love how bouncy and fun it sounds while dealing with such a serious subject and the hope it offers for those dealing with dark thoughts. My favourite lines from this song are 'Shadows will scream that I'm alone, but I know we made it this far' and 'I begin to assemble what weapons I can find cos sometimes to stay alive you gotta kill your mind', as a reminder that there's things that I can do to fight against depression ect, that I'm not alone in what I'm feeling and that I can celebrate and be proud of making it through the crappy times in my life, even while it's still hard.

I relate so so much to the lyrics that say 'please let me paint a mental picture portrait, something you won't forget, is all above my forehead. Deny what is important, holds back contents that makes pandoras box content look non violent'. That's my head lol Now when you go back to the outside music video, try to remember the instrumentals from this song because on that video we gonna be at the islands of violence.

Oh I love your tøp reactions! I've always thought that 'whether is the weather or the letters by my bed' line is more linked to the bible next to his bed. Like him talking about his struggle with religion. This song is Tyler showing us how his mind works, the good and bad stuff but I love that he also mentions there's a hopeful undertone.
