Be careful Becca, Twenty One Pilots is another musical black hole you can get sucked right into, never to return :) I tripped over them a few years ago (immediately fascinated by Tyler's aforementioned charisma) and spent lordy knows how long absorbing their albums and delving through all their concert and background video footage. They are brilliant and also bloody hilarious together. I listened to their brand new album Trench all day at work yesterday...YAS!!! Check out some of their music videos - they put a great deal into them. I was very much moved by " My Blood", the newest one.

My 13 year old is a big fan and has been for years. He told me years ago that the masks and painting of their faces, the things to obscure identity also had to do with some social anxiety as well. They definitely want to break barriers down, not put them up. Rebecca, I am an old lady (51) by some people's standards (lol -- ie, most fans of this music and 21 Pilots' contemporaries), but I have always passionately LOVED music. It's been my saving grace for many years. I say that songwriters and singers raised me and when I need shelter, compassion, and understanding, I turn to music. You, your channel, and your biography are inspiring ! Thank you for doing reviews of my two favorite young singers -- Brendon Urie and Tyler Joseph. That is how I found you, by the way -- I was jumping around on KZbin listening to PATD and watching some random interview segments of Brendon and your review was suggested. It also stemmed from when they were first performing at restaurants and bars and stuff like that, and their goal was to get the staff to look up from what they were doing to watch them. First off you seem like so sweet and you're very knowledgable! And yes- Addict with a Pen is an extremely emotional song. Tyler has broke down singing it live before even. He wrote House of Gold for his mom 😊 As far as the masks go- they use them a lot. I'm almost positive Tyler decided to do them because he wants the person listening to disconnect themselves from him as a person and instead focus on the music. Also they both deal with anxiety a lot and the idea of wearing the masks to feel more comfortable on stage was explored in their music video for guns for hands! Plus- Tyler has more recently taught himself Bass. It's on the new album a lot.

Ben Snyder technically it "going with the energy of the music" so basically like a guitar player would move around to go along with the beat. But he starts to cry onstage and so he shakes his head. It works too. idk why but it feels like your shaking the emotion out of you.
@gnerwithapen90845 жыл бұрын
When you say 'they' and 'lyrics' in the same comment it doesn't even make sense, Josh can just hit the drums harder when he's getting too emotional why would he shake his head WHEN HE DRUMS WITH HIS ENTIRE BODY APART FROM HIS HEAD

Josh has got arms of steel and can hit his drums harder than anyone else and has the rythm of a god and Tyler has lungs of steel and my favorite vocals of all time. They put so much effort and emotion into their music which is why it's so emotional and overwhelmingly exquisite. It's so easy to get into and so hard to get out. They are my favorite band.

I noticed you were unsure of the meaning of Addict With A Pen, and since I love that song so much and feel like everyone should know the meaning, I thought I would share! From what I’ve learned of it, the song is about Tyler and his relationship with God. He mentions how he hasn’t been the best of sons and how he can’t find a drop of water/of “you”, I think the song was him opening up about struggling to maintain faith. It’s truly beautiful, whether you’re religious or not he’s able to make you feel so much of his pain and journey with this song. It’s truly incredible.

Josh Dun is the drummer btw, Tylers voice is unique. Every album sort of has something that represents it, Vessel is the mask Blurry face the red beanie, Trench is yellow band/Vulture/ and Dema. the mask makes them one of us in a sense, they try to create something that's faceless, that can represent a group of people or have people relate to it - Also new to your channel so hi! My favourite cover full acoustic by them is Cant help falling in love - its worth checking out if it interests you.

Addict With a Pen (the one you said hit you emotionally) is a *great* song. The song title is about his songwriting process and the song is, amongst the other layers, mostly about his faith. I really suggest you check it out. His newer "writing process" song is called "Pet Cheetah". His newer song about faith is called "Leave the City." Both are on the Trench album. Loved your video! The song that you got emotional at was about him and his relationship with God. He uses water as a symbol for hope and faith. That's why he got so emotional with the "water" because "I haven't found a drop of water". Later in the song he makes it obviously that it's about God because he says "But you specialize in dying, you hear me screaming 'father' And I'm lying here just crying, so wash me with your water"

Finally someone reacted to this video of Tyler aha I've been requesting it for so long. I've always though this video was a great exemple of what Tyler can do (even though some major performances are missing) but since the new album Trench came out, it needs to be re-done because he worked on his voice so much and he hits amazing notes. Hearing him sing always make me emotional, I love him. I also wanted to say that yes, Tyler gets a lot of attention but Josh Dun, the drummer, is far from being forgotten and I'm pretty sure they're equally loved in the fanbase and that makes me very happy
