Yeah, if you had told me back in 2017 that I would like a Poppy album more than a Linkin Park album, I would've called you crazy.

I never paid attention to Poppy before, but her feature with Knocked Loose really drew me in and made me want to check out this album. So glad I did cause this album is great. Fav track is "The center's falling out", but "crystallized" is a surprising 2nd.

@maciejojewski175522 күн бұрын
This album kida feels like Poppy going through couple of BMTH eras, probably because she works with Jordan haha, but I would pay A LOT for them to have at least one song

Great album overall, lots of variety & Poppy’s growth as an artist is clear, some cuts are a bit too standard & similar, but the strengths far outweigh those negatives. 8/10 for me

I always find myself singing crystalized, push go and halo. Its such an incredible album. The cost of giving up and halo are my favourites, and this is on par with the eat ep and better than i disagree in my opinion. She's really shining on this album

I don't know if Negative Spaces is my favorite Poppy project, but it is a very strong top 3 along with I Disagree and Eat EP. Also, 4:11 damn that is so true but also very sad 😭

I absolutely adore Poppy, got into her during the pandemic, saw her live at Reading festival 2022 and she blew me away, Van is my song of the year, this new album is pure class, in interviews she has said what a huge NIN fan she is , so she gets extra points for name checking my favourite band.

If people told me that Poppy dived into the metal scene herself and made metal tracks, I wouldn't believe you for a second. Ignorant ol' me: Poppy does metal....? Poppy....? Metal......? Knocked Loose features Poppy: Hmmmm okay... Interesting.... Poppy screams: WHAT THE FUCK?!?!
@SongwritingDeconstructed23 күн бұрын
I've seen some pejorative commentary on it being 'too derivative/on the nose' in terms of sounding like other things, but I really believe it's not a case of being lazy or copy/pasting - that's not the style of either Jordan or Poppy. There are subtle differences that add a transformative element and more importantly, as you've no doubt seen people saying, it's a 'jukebox record': kind of a grab bag of a lot of different styles/bands/eras/genres and to me that's Poppy wanting to showcase everything that's influenced her. I totally agree those two are a match made in heaven and I've no doubt she's picking up production skills from him. They both like and are influenced by hyperpop, k-pop, j-pop and j-rock and you can def hear it in places like the sudden transition in the chorus on They're All Around Us

Loved this one, my favorite track right now is probably Surviving on Defiance but there really isn't a song I don't like. Ironically, I think Negative Spaces and From Zero are both 'variety' albums sampling from many genres, so your different feelings about the two of them are very interesting to me, and maybe speaking to your expectations of the two going in? 😋 I might be in the minority that like both the LP album and Poppy, though I do think Negative Spaces is definitely poppy's best work overall and I've been listening to it more. I love when poppy get's even weirder than this, there were only subtle left turns in the outros of songs in this album, but I loved how this experiment with more typical song structures worked out for Poppy and the variety she was able to bring to the album while also having lyrical and melodic callbacks to previous albums (e.g. 'every boy and every girl...' lyrics in Push Go to Am I a Girl?) and the production/guitar tone that made it sound cohesive and feel like one album that wasn't just switching genres randomly.
@spyrothedragon398322 күн бұрын
I mean, just looking at it as objectively as possible, there’s MUCH more going on sonically with this album than From Zero. Both go from soft to hard but Poppy goes further on both extremes, in less predictable ways (for the most part). Can’t say Emily isn’t the more capable singer but Poppy’s screams are definitely more dynamic & pack more of a punch as well as noticeable improvement in her singing, tho both signers clean vocals have too many effects. Expectations for LP’s big comeback album should be high, they set a high bar for their potential with their discography, & for me they fell very short of my expectations of what they can do & I can definitely see why others feel mixed too

I would have been a way bigger fan of her music if this was the album that came out right after "I Disagree", but she went into that punk/grunge direction so for a long while I just kind of lost interest.
