Right on schedule, the poppies are germinating! Direct seeded in late November, everything is growing well and getting established for the winter.
It’s not too late to sow! Here is a great seed source www.botanicali...

I have struggled with bread seed poppies in zone 5, but this inspired me to buy more seeds and keep trying. I would take all of you pathway volunteers over my tribulus terrestris.

@@hassanghumman8269 I was able to get some going by direct sowing, but they struggled and that was my fault. I failed to provide them with rich enough soil and enough water as larger trees on my property soak up all the water.. I've been trying to revive my yard after previous owners sprayed everything with chemicals and never added organic matter to the soil for ten plus years.

I just sowed poppy seeds and other cool season annuals about a week ago here in 6a. Also cut back annual pots and sprinkled seeds on top. I’m visiting family next month and going to try and sow some for them as well. I can’t wait to see them in spring! They’re the easiest and most impressive sight 🤩

We enjoy watching your You Tube videos! I just want to let you know by watching your You Tube video on sowing poppies I got inspired in planting a small area in my woodland garden where I have some direct sun shine. I seeded the poppies on Saturday after Thanksgiving and they are germinating as of today. They look wonderful !

@brie The poppy seeds I bought from you are germinating here in Charlotte! I was pretty sure the seedlings were poppies because I used your "bowling" technique and the spread of the seedlings matches the way I tossed them! I can hardly wait until spring to see them.

Hi, Brie. I have an oddball question for you... About 40 years ago my Mother-in-Law gave me some poppy pods that her husband (my Father-in-Law) brought back from the war in the Pacific. They have been growing them in a bed in front of their house ever since so they're kind of an heirloom/family tradition. My question for you is: After sitting in their pods for 40 years what would you say are the odds of them germinating? Do you know of any applicable tips/tricks for increasing the odds? I'm in Zone 8-9 (South Florida) and only have 2 pods (but they're loaded with seeds) and I don't want to waste them. Thanks. Just sane... :^) Saint

It’s a long shot that they would germinate but it’s worth a try. Maybe sow a few in December in a pot and if they germinate you could sow more? Def do not sow them now, it’s way too hot!

My oak tree still has green leaves on it it almost thanksgiving Soo I already sowed but did put a white cover bc the leaves won't fall until like Feb at this point the acorns are barely starting to fall. So is it ok to cover I'm not sure if will be bad for. But does get cold around Feb -March. Zone 8b Dallas, Texas. My poppies look just like yours now. I'm so like wondering how do they survive the freezes in January?? So crazy sometimes freezes in March/April lately past couple years...

If you don’t get good germination from this round wait and resow when you get cooler weather/ after the leaves fall. It’s tricky in Warmer climates where the timing is strange.

Here in Portland, OR, we receive lots of rain. Can these pots by left out in the open or do I need to put them under the covered patio?
@BrieThePlantLady
@BrieThePlantLady Жыл бұрын
I would keep them in the open but you may want to try both approaches and see. Just know it’s way too early to sow these. You need to wait until the soil gets cool

Do you have a care guide for matsubara red prunus? It blooms at different times of the year and I can’t find any helpful information on them. Im not sure when it goes dormant or when I should prune. Do you have any advice? Should I leave it outside forever or should I bring it inside certain times of the year?
@BrieThePlantLady
@BrieThePlantLady Жыл бұрын
Never bring it inside! It needs to stay outside. Prunus mume are tough and bloom in winter naturally. Prune in June-august to reduce succeeding at cuts. Just treat it like a cherry. Plant it outside and leave it alone.
