Hello from Canada! I have two children under 5 and I noticed as well I needed much much less than people generally advise. And when I had fallen into buying excessive baby care items the first time around, I became overwhelmed with managing the volume of stuff taking over my house! You’re so right, the priority is you connecting and caring for your baby. And all this excess can actually cause more stress rather than relieving it. Thanks for the video! And God bless ☺️

Hi. Love your videos. So refreshing to watch a fellow Christian. Praying all goes well for your birth. Just a little note of advice. As a Neonatal Nurse I am involved in a lot of parent classes. Sterilisers if you are bottle feeding are a MUST for the 1st year of life (see NHS guidelines) they are not an extra. Just needed to clarify that. God Bless from Wales

Very true that we are more susceptible to pressure buying things, especially with hormones involved. I went extremely minimal with my first, and so did end up getting a few more things with my second! My thoughts: 1. Toys. I agree! For newborns the whole world is so interesting, they definitely don’t need extra toys. Interaction end playing *with* them is key, singing to them, bouncing them, pointing, peek-a-boo…especially if you have other children, you don’t need toys specifically for small baby as the best toys end up being pretty universal (my nearly two year old and my four-month-old both love silks and music shakers), and my nearly two-year-old is constantly shoving his toys into sissy’s hands to try and share with her XD So sweet! The only toy we have specifically for my second is a keepsake luvie (a little stuffed lamb with a music box in it) from her Grandma. Her brother has one like it except it’s a lion and he carries it everywhere and goes to bed with it.

Tesco and next do a couple of zip up onsies! You’re so right, as a ftm i regret buying so many things for my baby, theres so much baby clutter that i’ve never used: bottles, dummys, cots, mobiles, blankets, muslins and all the gifted stuff too - i’m so grateful for them but theres so much STUFF! 😅

This is a great reminder that the #1 thing a baby needs is his mother! My mindset is that if a mom didn’t have it 100 years ago, there needs to be a good argument for why I should spend my money on it. Less stuff usually equals less stress and baby items are no different.

For baby detergent, ecover zero is a great unscented, natural etc detergent I've used for my baby and easy to get in the UK. Our local sainsburys stocks it but you can also order it online.

We only bought zip up onesies and were quite annoyed when people bought us button up ones, but we ended up hating the zippers and loving the buttons! It’s funny what works for different babies, our girl has incredibly chunky legs though, so maybe that’s why we find them more tricky. We found that John Lewis had the best selection of zipper onesies, and if you keep an eye out on the website they always have different offers. They run on the larger side. Next is hit and miss, but we have had a few from there too, as well as Mothercare in Boots x

H&M has hooded kids towel on a proper grownup towel size. I got those for my kids. My 3 year old (who wears 4-5yrs size) still uses it. I just find those baby towels are so expensive for something where after 6 months your child cannot even be wrapped in anymore

Also regarding wipe warmers: if its cold and you’re using a heater when changing diapers, hold a wipe close to a heater for a second or two and is warm.

I’m finding I disagree with almost everything you’re saying, which is making me giggle, but the hairbrush … some babies have loads of hair!! I came out with a full head of thick hair. My son was born with a lot of hair too. Also, as a newborn, brushing his hair calmed him so quickly. Just a soft bristled little brush.
