Love can be used to address a stranger. And in the West Country the use the term ‘me lover’ can also be used in interactions with anyone including strangers. Especially if you do not know their name

In ireland people use "pet" quite a lot even to strangers (usually old people to younger people) or cashier to customer in shops (usually used by old/middle aged people)

Hello! I seem to be coming to the party late, but in addition to the ones you already mentioned beginning with "Sweet" an older one is "Sweetpea". Also, my best friend and I call each other "Pookie" which is not common, but I have heard it over the years. Cheers!

I think also it depends on the context, and this is where it is important to learn the English way of doing things in England; when I go to a shop, and I am served by a girl, at the end of the transaction she may say "thanks darling" or "thank you love"; but I would never say that back to her. It would feel uncomfortable for me to say that to her, to call her "love" or "darling". It is all about the context. If I ever want to call a stranger a term of endearment, I just call them "mate" and give them a big smile, and that is for both men and women that I meet.. Again, it depends on the context, or how you feel; the important thing is to just make any term of endearment genuine, and from your heart:)

"Dear" is usually an older people's expression in England; But it is ok if your girlfriend buys you a drink and you say "cheers dear", or if a girl serves you in a shop, and she gives you your money change, you can say "thanks dear" (many girls would like it if you call them "dear" in shop! Don't be scared to smile and use your emotion)
