It's basically always people from the West they ironically preach about love and respect and equality among everyone but think of themselves as the only moral authority on the entire planet. If your culture is considered bigoted, it must be destroyed, and by extension, if you are part of that culture, you too must be destroyed. It's no wonder that a lot of other countries that just outright ban the rainbow mafia also never have to deal with any of this sh!t. Not saying that should be the solution, but damn does it look more appealing every single day.

In Japan Twitter, it is rude to reply to someone directly if they are not following each other. It is very common to retweet a tweet and add a tweet afterward because they want to share their thought or just even silly random commentary to their followers only. This is what people who engage in cancel culture don't get, everyone got their own boundaries and comfort zone, it is IMPOLITE to throw your opinion on a stranger and force them to provide their beliefs, even on the internet.

People got to really understand. Some Japanese people live under a rock (no offense) and try not to listen to trash media we Americans consume. Dopamine rush. Twitter (and other social media) with their like/dislike ratio and such are built to get you hooked on the attention. However people quickly discover that saiying "today I had carrots for lunch. I like carrots" doesn't yield as many retweet/like/notifications as saying "GOD YES CARROTS. WE SHOULD BRUTALLY KILL ANYONE WHO DOES NOT LIKE THEM CARROTS". These platform are litteraly built to bring out the worst in human beings through dopamine addiction, which is why it's never a surprise to see these terminany online people always having such hateful manners. Moreover, nobody likes being the bad guy so naturally they all end up being justice warriors.

"He acted like a child just telling people over and over to learn Japanese" No, he didn't. You don't reward bad behaviour by giving someone what they want. All these people harassing him are the ones acting like children going around throwing tantrums at _perceived_ bigotry because it's all they're ever looking for. He did nothing wrong and has shown his support for the LGBT+ community. Also, he didn't "allow" all kinds of transphobic people to view his tweets. He's on a social media platform where _everyone_ can see his tweets, regardless if they're transphobic or not. It's not his job to police what other people do, which is something that the harassers will never learn for themselves.

He didn't deserve any harassment to begin with, but at least the people asking for explanations weren't harassing him, they were in fact being quite polite. As for telling people to learn Japanese, that is the same thing as telling a Japanese to go learn english if they don't understand something and ask for an explanation. He did eventually give the explanation, so the question here is why not answer right away? And regardless of that, it seems like the misunderstanding was more of a cultural barrier rather than a language barrier, as it was explained in other tweets that he retweeted later on. So again, why tf tell people to just go learn Japanese instead of deescalating things? Telling someone to go study a whole new language isn't gonna help by any means (in the short term), specially when you consider how complex and different from western languages Japanese is.

So Ito basically said, "Just make gender neutral spaces for trans people, and gave a basic definition of what a woman is, answering Matt's wtf question that sadly people can't answer" but twitter took that common sense advice as an attack? I'm sorry WHAT!?
@bob1986
@bob1986 Жыл бұрын
Because that's not what they want to hear. They want to hear that he thinks trans people should be able to go into any space of their gender of choice without issue and that there are no gender definitions and anyone should be able to immediately just be 100 percent the gender they want. And otherwise you're a transphobe. A well thought out solution to the "problem" is not what people want to hear they just want to be validated and told they can do whatever they want and everyone else has to 100 percent believe what they believe. It's no different that politics at the end of the day.

You're right, by making name calling and so called "criticism" such a trivial and meaningless, purely subjective and whimsical matter they're turning disagreements and genuine concerns and topics a completely fictional existance, when any kind of polemic boils down to someone not liking you. Online debate barely exists anymore, it's all clout and schoolyard child fighting. The best thing to do is to just stick to your views and just assume everyone is simply trying to destroy you for no reason. And that, essentially, means that people are generally invited to become jaded and uncaring about anything that doesn't involve them and their own ideas and fixations.

Well, the older you get, the harder it is to learn anything, really. So blaming yourself for being bad at linguistics isn't all that.. adequate. You can do that, but believe me, self loathing will do you no good. In addition to that - Japanese, or, any language in the Asian part of the world, is incredibly intricate and complex (well, besides basic Korean, but when you get into the more complex part of Korean, it gets on pratically the same level), so, it goes without saying that it will take hundreds, if not thousands of hours to learn it. Start off slow, and pick up the pace where you can. Don't overwork yourself, don't try to step over stones, because, as a wise man once said - "Just like a house needs a set foundation, so do you. Trying to learn something without a foundation, would be like trying to build a house on a hill without a foundation. It will fall, as if it were a house made of game cards."

Isn't that what the whole point is? To NOT put a singular definition on an experience that is so wildly different for so many people across time and cultures. The same way we can't define what a man is, a woman is just someone who refers to themselves as women and truly believe it. That's the closest we can get without really excluding anyone. @@stupidron7108 being a woman is just that. Womanhood. Woman does not mean female adult. That's just biological. Women are such a wide category that you simply cannot give a definition to them, like men. We have muscular, masculine, feminine, fat, conservative, liberal women, whatever have you. And keep in mind the "definition of women", in every culture where it has been strictly stated, has been an unforgiving culture for cis men and women alike, and certainly for trans men and women as well. Also the whole, " how can you call yourself something you can't define" is such a silly argument. Thousands of years people knew that they were humans, but we couldn't define it. Now we know humans are a species, but that doesn't make us anymore human then those past. Like for example, I can't define for you what it means to be a person, but I can define, human. In regards to the locker-room thing, it's such a strange conflict. See, I am pretty lax about nudity, I don't care about watching other people when changing, so if there was a merry mix of men and women, I'd scarcely notice. But, I am well outside the norm, I think. The men's locker room is for men, that being human males. The women's locker room is for women, human females. Regardless of how they identify. If you, as a transwoman, go into the women's locker room and face protest, your humanity is not denied. We recognise you as a human being with human rights. And we recognise that you entered the wrong dressing room. You're still human, and you can go and be human in the men's dressing room, because you are, in the end, a human male. And it's okay to be a human male. It's every bit as good as being a human female. It's just not the same thing, and most people are uncomfortable with being naked together with strangers of the opposite sex. They have rights, too.

I'm gonna say it: the concept of gender being eliminated never sat right with me- and I'm genderfluid. For many people it doesn't matter, but for the great majority it is another part of their identities as important as their names or where they come from. Deleting gender so there's no transphobia or confusion is... dumb. It's ok to say man and woman; male and female. It's also ok to say either when you're speaking about certain experiences. It's not an obligation to make everything neutral, you can just refer to the majority of a group when speaking and that's alright! I know this isn't the focus point of the video, but it's still a thing that's being discussed.

If only more people felt like yourself. I don't think any amount of reading or education will make me think of the phenomenon of trans people as somehow not unusual. I genuinely have nothing against them as individuals, even if I may never fully understand their reasoning. I will always be supportive of peoples' right to express themselves however they choose. But for one, the concept of 'deadnaming' seems terribly sad to me, as though a person is trying to reject or deny part of what makes them who they are, instead of simply accepting it, integrating it as part of their identity, and moving on from it. And no amount of mental gymnastics will lead to me feeling that there is no distinction between transmen/women and biological males/females. No matter what gender reassignment surgeries or hormones are taken, what voice training they may do to sound more convincingly masculine/feminine, and even how attractive they might appear to the opposite sex. A trans woman, for example, will never be able to conceive and give birth, no matter how much they may wish otherwise. I sympathise with their desire to be seen as indistinct from those born as a certain gender but I also feel it's impossible. Their bodies and brains are structurally different, their lived experiences are different. We only have to look to the performance and controversies around trans athletes to see evidence of this. It is difficult because to some, maybe even many, trans people, this would make me 'transphobic' even though I bear no ill will. I value peoples' subjective realities but not to the extent I feel comfortable denying the objective one. That's the line I draw.

Agreed. I am asexual. I do not expect the vast majority of people to know what that is, or live their lives like sex doesn't matter to them like it doesn't to me. It is important to the majority of people. I am the outlier. The same as we shouldn't change textbooks that say humans have 2 arms. The vast majority do have 2 arms. It's good to understand not everyone is the same. It's bad to force the entire world to change in every way to be like me. It wouldn't be fair for me to demand people who like sex to be in a relationship with me. Yet I see trans people demand people who aren't attracted to them date them. It's a small group of course, most trans people are chill. But it's insane how much Twitter and tick tock are obsessed over changing language (like spanish) and the entire world completely to make it fit trans people and be worse for everyone else. We should all try to make everyone's life better and not take others rights away to do it as much as possible.

Being told to do research before you accuse people of things isn't insulting unless it's true that you're ignorant of the context. But just because you're ignorant doesn't mean someone else is obligated to educate or inform you of anything. The whole idea of identity in Japan is quite expansive since very early on. Even in tribes before America was invaded by the Europeans, gender for them was much more complex and multi-faceted. The ideas of gender being just two things are only born from European ideology where even then, men are held up in high regards. It would be better if the "rules" we set up for gender were done away with so people can live as themselves instead of what the world expects them to be.

You'd also think making light of someone's mental hang-ups like phobias by claiming criticism as a phobia or any other random shit of the week as a phobia would be mocking mental health. Last I checked they don't like people making light of mental health, while they simultaneously do that themselves lol.

Everytime when someone demands "speak English" I can't help but to imagine that individual as an entitled person who never finished school and never bothered with languages. Then again, being from Finland, we have to study English and Swedish in school and have the options to study more.

You can do literally anything and be defined as a transphobe. Let alone discuss any of the issues around trans people, which are very sensitive and deserve much greater nuance than the baised people give it. I was labled a "narcissistic transphobic piece of shit" or something for saying that people should be able to live in a way that is comfortable to them, and to not let lables define them. Afiak that was LGBT's motto until like 2015, but now they're just rainbow facist nazis. Like, why can't people just try to get along? Everyone has to look for and make up reasons to spread hate.

Ok tbh i dont understand why everyone hates matt. I watched his movie he made "what is a Woman" and it actually brings up some good points. Yes sometimes it can be taken offensively but what stood out to me is the interview with Scott who is a trans man. Basically saying how Hormone blockers aren't reversible and have bad side affects and how it can potentially really hurt someone. So yes things he said can be taken with a grain of salt I think it's also great for understanding other things

It's true, about how Google Translate doesn't have the best translation quality, like how タイマン(tai man) is translated as "Thai man", when in reality タイ comes from 対("tai") meaning "faced, opposed", so the literal translation is "vs. man". Also, asking a Japanese guy to speak English is so rude. In Japan it's considered a very difficult language because if you pay attention to his text, there are a few small typos like writing "an" before a consonant sound word, and saying "I'm not transphobia" when he meant to say "I'm not transphobic". English is difficult for Japanese speakers because grammar structure(English is subject + verb + object; Japanese has verb and object swap places), pronounciation(English speakers have more sounds than Japanese people), context(unlike the English language, Japanese is more dependent on context like pronouns such as "I" or "you" are omitted, but the sentences do make sense based on context, like 私は学生です("watashi wa gakusei desu", I am a student) can be shortened as 学生です(gakusei desu)).

i’ve had the answer to this problem for a while, but idk if it’s ok to say, but ima say it the concept of gender shouldn’t matter substantially to anyone other than the person themselves, why should you care that your taxi driver is gay, all you should focus on is his driving skills the few times gender can be used as a help is biologically, by treating problems and complications that are because of said gender, but other than that, do you really care if your friend from across the street isn’t the same gender as you?
@Duster29to86
@Duster29to86 Жыл бұрын
Gender is purely biological. There are only two genders, male and female, and both are defined by both genetics and parts your born with. Saying anything to the opposite of that would be both dishonest and encourage the spreading of a lie.

Completely agree with that biology argument. I have a disease that is extremely rarely diagnosed in my gender, and even then the majority of the people my gender that have it, like me, are trans. Do I take medication for it that the other gender uses? Absolutely. Why? Because biologically, that one would help me better.
@TrampMachine

This is the embodiment of the shit that drives me crazy about the gender question. People be like, well gender is socially constructed and distinct from sex Okay but social constructs are... socially constructed and culturally relative... So like different cultures will have different understanding of the idea of woman/man. So sure a group of people can change how they understand woman/man as having no implication of sex. But the opposite is also true. And in a time where culture is changing so rapidly it makes perfect sense that some people would hold onto the sex distinction while others will let it go. People who think their definition of gender is the one and only universal definition of gender on the basis that it's socially constructed are missing the point entirely. To say that people should be treated with respect, and be safe regardless of their gender, or anyone's definition of gender is imo is much better than trying to argue that your culture/groups definition of gender is universal.

And then it's like, why did they even jump on this bandwagon in the first place if it wasn't going to give them some sort of privileged position on social media?

Being gay, I've always thought I'd get along with trans people or be able to empathize with them for being in the big ol lgbtq/queer family....... Sadly, most I've met are hyper politically correct, touchy about everything, and very negative to interact with in general. At times I swear some trans folk enjoy nitpicking, digging and reaching for -anything- they can find offensive so they can have fun getting mad. The USA is not nearly as bad as twitter makes it out to be. Its like they cant understand that people can disapprove and not like trans or whatever you are about while still being tolerant and a nice person! Some of my family and people at work disapprove of me being gay but we are still friends or at the least civil/nice to eachother... I still dont think I'm personally transphobic, but maybe I am Twittransphobic lol I just dont understand all the hostility and hyer-focus around perceived victim-hood

@@SchemingGoldberg The two-x chromosome thing is still somewhat misleading. That's what causes a fetus to be shaped into a human female body, yes, but that isn't he biological definition of a female. The _actual_ textbook biological definition of a female, is "the body that, when free of defect, produces the larger gamete." That's a fantastic definition because there's no way to argue against it. You can't say 'but what about people who have xxy chromosomes or xxx chromosomes!?' The function of the 'female' portion of the female body is producing the larger gamete. That's actually what that means, and a _woman_ , specifically a woman as opposed to a girl, is an adult human _female_ . A girl would be a a human female child.
