The real question isn't "why men are leaving the workforce" but "why are 95% of salaries not worth shit anymore" - what used to buy you a decent home and a livelihood that could feed a family barely pays a single dude's bills nowadays.

I was talking to my dads aunt who is in her 90s the other day.. I was telling her about how excited i was to be moving to a new place with lower rent.. she told me how when she first moved into her house her rent was and im not kidding... £1.50, A MONTH... it sounds absolutly unbeliveable nowdays. Just imagine like going outside. finding a £5 note on the floor and being like "Cool thats my rent sorted for the next 3 months."

@@Triscraft when I looked at apartments to rent, I visited a 2 bedroom apartment for 1'700$. The building was a concrete "bunker" where the cellar was unusable due to mold. The toilets and kitchen were renovated, however the building itself was in a bad shape. Then a grandma came by on her bike. She told me she lived there 15 years ago and she paid 600$ a month. Basically what happened was that all around new modern buildings were built. They weren't allowed to tear down the building I visited because it was protected. So they just raised the price to match with the new buildings.

Exactly this. In the last 2 decades the price of living has multiplied, groceries cost many times more now, taxes and rents keep increasing, cost of energy and fuel is thru the roof, THE ONLY THING that does not rise with all the costs is our wages.

When I applied to be a firefighter, I had to get a 90% to pass the civil service test. Women had to get an 80% to pass the same entrance exam for equal opportunity. When I entered to boot camp for the reserves, women could be slower and weaker and have equal opportunity. I say either raise both to the men’s standards, lower to the women’s standards, or some new point. When I went back to college using the GI Bill for my degree in Chemistry, I applied for an internship during the summer between my junior and senior year. I was told that I couldn’t apply because I wasn’t female. Internships essentially guaranteed a job when you graduate. I have been also passed over for jobs because of my gender even though I was more qualified. I see it happen all the time.

@@PixelSubstream you cannot learn to code in 4 years, it takes an entire decade to start to get good, people have no idea how absurdly hard it is, anyone can do simple mathematics like trigonometry, but being a mathematician is an entire different game. The demand for programmers was never that high to begin with, it was companies with 0% interest money just inflating the number of workers to prove that they're growing. Those weren't even doing anything useful. Now its all gone because 0% interest money isn't there. Also, Elon musk firing 85% of XTwitter and the thing still work as badly as before showed how bad people working there were. Real programmers aren't being replaced with AI, data entry clerks are, and frontend developers that create user interfaces, something that could already be automated without even using AI if people weren't that stupid. But C-suit managers need people to manage to justify their salary , even if their entire task is useless and could have been replaced by software already. Also the entire job of frontend is basically keep changing the interface of a site for no good reason every 6 months, its just busy work. Of curse the media is going to try to push, you learn how to code. But the quasm between 6 figures and them earning barely $30K/y is going to be brutal, and they're never going to be given the tasks that move you from a mere coder to becoming an engineer. How many technicians fix cars versus how many engineers work creating the cars, that's what's going to happen.

The point where I fully knew I was leaving the place Is when they got the second woman on the shop floor. She has been there for about 3 months and has instantly been picked to go on courses to train as and engineer/fitter in the factory. The last time I worked I called the person out and it went to HR and they confirmed that i was right but forced me to do it anyway and the person who complained got promoted while they just offered me an extrention of my contract that i didnt accept. I know from ex coworkers that the company has lots of problems again, because nobody is there to fix problems anymore, because as a former "raid leader" I was able to overlook and solve issues in teams and create structure+ helm out where help was needed. Now they just got people who yell if things dont work... I'm not sorry for beeing lazy and happy. I'm a guy in STEM research, and I agree with Asmon. I hear the phrase "We need more women in STEM" all the time, despite over half graduate school enrollments being women. Not to mention specific research grants intended only for women. So you do get a sense that the cards are stacked against you as a guy, whether it's true or not. So I think that incentive structure is definitely a factor, because it distracts away from a merit based system.

And the more I looked around guys around 3 to 4 years they would be looking at them like a hawk for any reason to fire them. Once guys got past 5 years they seem to chill out on it. But I see their business model. Promise you everything and then more. But you barely get any work even though you're making tons of money per hour it doesn't add up to much at the end of the year. Then most likely unless you're the most strict rule follower ever. They'll find some BS reason to fire you.

In contrast, I have to deal with female bosses that are talking shit behind my back, stirring the pot, asking me to do literally everything, writing me up when I haven't broken any rules, etc It is a rat race to the bottom. The other mother gushed to me about her sons field of study. (Humanities). She then asked me what my son would be studying. Once I I told her that he was to become a motorcycle mechanic, she stopped talking to me. There is no respect for the physical jobs that keep this world running. Plumber heeded the call and when he arrived the homeowner answered the door and gave him a condescending look and said, "Damn, you sure do have a pathetic job". There's not really a win condition for a lot of men in our society. Men primarily work so they can get a house get married and have kids but almost 50% of marriages end in divorce and being able to buy a house is out of reach. Men don't need much to be happy when they don't have to provide for a family so they do the bare minimum. A study was done with a class at a school. They "took" the good grades from the A and B students, dropped them down to C grade in order to "redistribute" to the D and F students a boost them also to C grades. The A and B students had common sense and decided it was unfair to work hard if they only get a C, so they did shoddy work or no work at all. Soon enough everyone was getting F grades because there was no high grades to take and redistribute. Sound like a familiar economic/governmental situation?

Too bad grades can be earned solely through hard work. Wages are already the way you describe in the experiment: there are so many workplaces where you are lazy and get paid the same as the hard worker. You don't get a higher wage for working harder unless your pay works the way that it should (it usually doesn't unless you are self employed or something.)

Think of it in the gaming term "breakpoint". If a two-handed sword does 40 damage, it needs 2 hits to take out an enemy with 50 HP. You need +25% to get to 50 damage, so anything less than that is effectively wasted effort. This is what's happening to young(ish) people's earnings. They have no reason to work harder if it doesn't result in e.g. buying a house. If you're stuck renting an apartment no matter what you do, it makes sense to work LESS instead of more and enjoy the additional free time instead. Of course, this means no family formation, no future, and eventually no civilization. So that's a problem. But don't blame young people for abandoning a grind that used to yield a house but now only yields burnout.

Most labor jobs were both, actually. When they moved the Ford Explorer factory from Michigan to Mexico (one of the very few that got outsourced to Mexico actually, most go to southeast Asia) they also reduced the headcount. What used to take nearly 2,000 Americans to build now takes less than 300 Mexicans to build, and they produce 20% more of them in the same time. This makes sense, when you think about it. While you're already incurring the expense to move a whole factory across the world, why the hell wouldn't you spend just a little more and replace the workforce with machines that require neither vacations nor health insurance? As long as you're going to have downtime in production, you might as well make the most of it. Still, it's usually both. The idea that the vast majority of job loss is the fault of immigrants or outsourcing is a political talking point with zero basis in data. And if you want to place blame where it REALLY belongs, the correct target if your ire would be Wall Street. Companies that aren't publicly traded almost never engage in this kind of activity. If they don't need to juice quarterly profits every quarter, they don't do crap like this. The day the NYSE is closed down for good the entire world will improve, if only marginally.

I work in tech, and I saw some female colleagues still complaining there’s a gender discrimination against them and they are paid unequally. But they are being paid the same as me so as other men in the same level. So not sure where’s the income discrimination. On top of that, the hiring process clearly favor women. The company hires CS grad who has showed that they have the capability of doing the job. The company also hire non CS grad and invest time and money to teach them how to code, but the code quality produce by people from such program is just not as good as a CS grad who spent 4 years mastering the task. And of course the majority of CS grad hires are male, and the majority of non CS grad hired to such program are non CS grad. So it’s clear which gender the system favors… (I think having more female in the industry can be a good thing, but I’m annoyed hearing female colleagues complaining there’s a gender discrimination against them because from my perspective, it’s the complete opposite.)

I'd be willing to guess that you've never applied yourself or taken responsibility for your life or actions if you truly think that a high school diploma is a decent bar to set for self-education. You simply have to do something, anything after high school to continue improving. Doesn't have to be college, but a trade cert., learning how to start a business, something. As a high school graduate, you provide virtually zero utility to any company other than low-skill, low-value mostly physical labor. Is that really that hard to understand? Apply yourself. Women are the priority now. They get ALL of the opportunities. Youre treated as a 2nd class citizen if you are a native male. Our society used to support men, women, children and elderly equally. But the men were the providers and the protectors. They were vital. The young men had a healthy environment to grow. They had coming of age rituals for the boys. Masculinity wasnt a bad thing. Yep, workforce almost doubled and yet productivity didnt (excluding what we gained in productivity due to automation). And that is because women dont do the actual work. They sit in their office (or nowadays homeoffice), fill out som formulars, create some excel sheet or power point, then drink coffee are on the phone with other women and complain about the men at work. Basically women nowadays do the same thing they did before they were even allowed to work, they just dont do it for their husband and family, they now do it for a boss at a souless corporation that would instantly fire them if they could get away with it. And who suffers the most? The guy doing the work, that now has a massive overhead of management and regulation that always makes sure that he is the one to blame for everything and at the end of the month he gets paid barely enough to make a living. I work at a railway company in the EU and in the old pictures you see these proud railroad workers and at the railroad stations all the ppl that used to work there for these companies. Nowadays the railroad stations are basically empty, we have far more traffic, far less ppl (working outside) and yet we can only dream of buiying our own house one day, while the workers back then managed to all build their own house, have a family, of not just 1-2 kids but 5-8 children back then. How in the world is this possible? Well, I know how much the ppl in the office earn for knowing literally nothing, having no responsibility whatsoever and being able to do their 'work' from home at a time that they themselves can decide. They earn more than the ppl risking their lives when they work on the rails. This is such a sick system and I dont blame any guy that does not want to even try anymore.

Essentially my only option is to continue saving up bits of money and buy a house out west because the coasts are unaffordable for so little. Btw, women have been in the workforce since the 1910s in Europe and 1940s in USA. That's because of how many men died in World War 1 and 2, leaving many necessary occupations unfilled and the only way to fill those positions was to hire women. That's when the great shift of women going from housewives to joining the workforce happened. And it stuck. The women's rights movement only began of unfair pay and treatment at work. Initially the movement was very justified. But lately it has turned into where women are being given privilege over men and men being pushed out of the workforce. These two things are not entirely related but partial relation is there. Men are bing reduced to low pay difficult blue collar grunt work while women occupy more and more of the easy white collar jobs with higher pay. No wonder some men just quit entirely. They see no future in work where they get paid peanuts but in return get taken everything out of them that they have to give.

Women have always worked jobs, it's just that it used to only be "low class" (i.e. peasant) women that did it, and only the worst off of those low class women. Some eras in some places it was more or less of a percent of those women who worked. It's just that women used to pursue not working because it was a sign of social status. The difference is that now every women works because the industrialists 100 years ago convinced women at large that working themselves to the bone like men did was the actual key to high status. Just like the jewelers convinced them that an overly expensive waste-of-money rock was needed for a marriage to be legitimate, instead of spending that money that is actually valuable like their children's education or a house. The fact that women at large entering the workforce allowed the industrialists to massively depress wages over time due to the massively increased labor supply couldn't have been the real motive for the origins for all this, surely? The fact that this has taken on a life and ideology of its own since women bought the lies so long ago just compounds the problem.

I wonder how they kicked u out. in most states they can ONLY readjust ur payment once a year(not every 9 months) and u will know when that time is coming its the same for most other leases as well. ppl outside of affordable housing also have to deal with rent increases. but there are ways for u to work for a better oppourtunity. if ur willing to move... there are areas u can rent rvs for a few hundred a month or the same price ive seen sect 8 apartments go for. and theres no waiting list. its not pretty but its a way to work any job to build up money to invest in other things or secure 2.5x-3x rent for a normal apartment the same way other ppl have to. ik saying just move is a lame response but ppl outside of sectioned homes DO get kicked out bc of rent increases I recently had to move bc of one actually... but I was aware of that possibility in the same way u should had been aware of a rent increase

28:08 As a former worker in kitchens, your take is true. The pay sucks, the customers suck, the managers suck, the coworkers suck.. I worked kitchens for 9 years in my early 20s... it left me with a ripped apart confidence, lacking of ability to see the value in hard work, numerous pain now that I'm closer to 40.. back pain, knee pain, messed up feet, hip pain, constantly pain in my hands and fingers.. all to make minimum wage and barely pay for my apartments rent at the time.. now with the inflated price, I couldn't even afford a place without having to work 2 or 3 jobs.. which begs the question why do I need an apartment when I'm never there to have time to myself?... food for thought.

I know im late to this party but one big one is that companies dont want to train people any more. There used to entry level positions avalible for technical jobs where you were educated on the job. Companies have gotten so used to relying on higher education that no one trains for almost ANYTHING any more. For low level low paying positions thewy want a 2-4 year degree.

Honestly? We need to start throwing it back in their face This last year in an employee engagement survey, I used the anonymous feedback section at the end to lay into them about hypocritical hiring practices and workplace culture with DEI, and prefaced by saying 'I am relying on the anonymity of this system to convey this, because I do not -- in spite of your initiatives of 'safety' to bring up concerns -- feel safe enough to put my name to these words, and I will know if this comes back to me.' 'Men in my immediate cohort feel discriminated against, and they do not respect these initiatives -- not because they are any sort of 'phobic', but because they are common sense Men and they see the hypocrisy on the ground level.' Luckily I have not received any backlash from this. It needs to be said in more forms.

Many people in London who are Polish, Bulgarian, Turkish etc are going back to home countries because standard of living it getting better, while it is getting worse in the Western countries. I have a neighbour who is Polish, he is building a house in small town and have 4 children. All he is is a plumber. In England now, you have to be a millionaire rich man to do that. Don't come to the West brother, stay in Bosnia and try and make things better for your community and family.

@@justsomeonepassingby3838 Trade one sh....t hole for another one? What a great plan. Go to Russia instead, and that is not a joke. You need to go to a country that meets these criterias: 1. Can survive by itself if the world's economy collapses ( that is going to happen in the comming 5 years) 2. Is strong enough ( nuclear) to defend itself. 3. Has enough land and affordable houses. 4. Has a relatively large population living in it. 5. Has a decent education and economy. Bosnia and other countries will fail on several of those factors. In the coming years the world will split into economic blocks = 1. Europe + USA 2. China, Russia, India 3. The other ones. Look at the state debt and prices in Europe and Usa and look at same indices in Russia. How do you think, where the live will improve with the time and where it will get only more worse? The new law allows to get a green card in Russia quite easilly.

14:50 No, it would not be accurate to claim that most mammals have males that provide for their mate and offspring. In fact, in the majority of mammal species, males do not contribute significantly to providing for or raising the young. Sure it’s fair to say it’s the case for humans, but to what degree varies widely from culture to culture.
