Walmart licensed the PM name and then had tools made by different companies. The trilobe screwdrivers were made by Vermont American. I know I have a PM 1/2" ratchet that was made by Stanley but I have no clue how many different companies made tools for them.

Many of my tools are Popular Mechanics and still being used regularly here in 2024. I have several screw drivers, sockets, ratchets, box wrenches, etc.

Bought quite a few pm tools when Walmart cleared them out. The combo 1/4 3/8 sae metric socket set are in multiple vehicles/equipment to this day. Nice compact case with no skips that I used to change a car tire once in an emergency. Heck of a clearance deal for only $4 a set.

I had some socket sets from Popular Mechanics back in the 90s that were really good quality for a cheaper option 12-point socket. I bought them at Walmart back in 92 or 93 as my first real tool purchase. I don't know who made them or where they were made, I thought maybe Taiwan, but I didn't care enough back then to pay much attention to those things. They were really good. They withstood all of the abuse that a young man, full of himself and vigor, could throw at them without ever cracking or rounding the points. I used them for a few years until I was able to afford a more well-known brand, which weren't honestly any better. They just had the more popular name on them. I should have held onto those, if only for the memory.

I bought an Taiwan-made 'FTY' metric socket kit from K mart in the early 90s and still use them for most things although I recently bought a husky 3/8" impact set. The ratchet mechanism looks identical to the ratchet in this video but I broke the pawl and it's not usable 😠 I have taiwan-made metric pop mechanics combination wrenches and recently bought more off of ebay to fill out the set - I like the satin finish on them.

Hello again, Catus Maximus and Tiny Thank you for another Great Video 👍 I have a set Popular Mechanics Screwdrivers. Their Phillips Screwdrivers came with the gripping teeth on the Tips. They surprisingly worked pretty well getting camed out screws. I think I paid $10.00 for the set. I wish they were still in business. Again thank 😀

I know my brother had some of those Popular Mechanics screwdrivers in the garage in the 90's, and a 1/4 drive socket set. Pretty sure they came from Walmart.

I think they were available exclusively at Wal-Mart. This video says they were manufactured for Wal-Mart, but had to be tested and approved before Popular Mechanics would let them put their name on them. kzbin.info/www/bejne/eqWqnGZjjbNrhs0si=aQ9nkIemh5uQ2Szb&t=42
