“I’m pretty sure it’s our land anyway.” Best description of Manifest Destiny I’ve ever heard.

Guys. The lyrics are bad. They're HILARIOUSLY bad. But they're are SUPPOSED to be bad. Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson's writers made the lyrics bad: 1. To show that Jackson led the US in "America's teenagedom," where it was expanding, becoming independent of Europe, and finding its role on the world stage, and... 2. To further act as a satire for modern-day politics and the political mindset. I absolutely LOVE this musical, but yes, the lyrics are hilariously terrible. With good reason.

I mean with lines like "And other European countries, and other countries too, and also other places..." How could anyone think it's anything but intentionally bad??
@raz87522 жыл бұрын
I wouldn’t say “terrible”. It’s just supposed to be cheesy/angsty to be a satire on America at that time and the bands that they’re trying to mimic

Oh G-d XD That's how I just described it to my friend "a poorly done rock version of Hamilton, but about Andrew Jackson."

This show was so much better than the overhyped Hamilton.

Also this was first produced well before Hamilton...

Um, this came well before Hamilton. It’s nothing like Hamilton except that they’re both musicals about historical figures and their lives…. And it’s awesome!!! Andrew Jackson as an Emo.

actually predates Hamilton and as Lyn is a fan of the composer you gotta wonder if he didn't borrow soem beats from this show

My college was supposed to do it the year of the Trump/Clinton election. It would have been BRILLIANT. It was cancelled because protestors thought the musical was "racist." ...I mean, just from watching this clip, is this making fun of anyone *other* than white supremacists??? Come ON.

This reminds me a lot of the American Idiot musical, what with the trained Broadway type people trying to do the whole early '00s punk thing when they really have no business doing it. Not saying it's bad, just that it's an odd mix.

And the fact that this did come out in the mid2000s... initially. (I saw it live in 2006.) So... they could have been TRYING to do a play off of that. The joy of satiric interpretation.

@SeventhEve You do know all of this is based on andrew jackson... 7th president of the U.S.A who owned many slaves and had very strict anti-indian views and laws. i know this and i'm Australian haha.

@AdamEfimoff Was that a sentence, or a random string of words chosen from a hat?

1 & 2. Of course this isn't Emo rock, if it was strait up emo rock it wouldn't be satire, would it? 3. I think the people of the 19th century can take it. They're pretty dead to criticism these days. Besides, if we don't recognize the mistakes of our past, how will we grow as a culture? 4. Seriously? Insulting someone is never EVER a good debate tactic. It immediately puts them on edge and makes them less likely to listen to you. Plus, it makes YOU sound like a 5 year old.
