Three years of lessons and 360 youtube videos later I still get it wrong. English speakers should be able to say 'Pora'. This would cover both.

The problem is when por equals the easy English For, But por es by, through and across! Para es For to be to and from me. Y él palabras porque es because y por que es for why de Inglés. pero Por que igualos inglés palavras de For What, Than, That and Why.

"Para costear el pasaje" sounds like spanglish to me. Para financiar el pasaje - sounds better. Esta tarde, tengo que tanquear mi auto. Pure spanglish.
@Hekilikaua2 жыл бұрын
yeah, but it's *NOT* Spanglish. Costear, as in to pay for. Could be that your English ear is interpreting it that way, but it's a real word - the same way Financiar (as in to finance) is a real word. And language continues to evolve. "Spanglish" is a growing creole language that will evolve over time. Don't knock someone else's method of communication.

The uses of por and para seem arbitrary and inconsistent. ( I am accustomed to formal regular languages, the most common examples are computer programming languages. They are consistent and frequently revised for best utility. Natural languages are both inconsistent and people often reject formal revision that would reduce the inconsistency or inaccuracy. )

I have a suggetion to the team. I am studying the 100 most used words from another spanish site. Please do a video on "ha" vs "tiene" they both seem to mean the same. It says "ha" is auxillary though. This may be a good one. Gracias
@springspanish3 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the suggestion, James! We have an upcoming video about haber & hay / habia / hubo. That may be helpful already. Once it’s out, let us know what you think about it. We are also planning a video about the most used words in Spanish.

@@springspanish YES! Cool...as i was reading this i was thinking, maybe they van do a series 100 most used words in Spanish. Because i think vistawide has also has a 100 most used words they break down into verbs nouns adjectives and adverbs. NICE! I am so glad to get a possibility of 2 videos.

Sorry for bugging you guys, i use various sites for studying. 1 site/KZbin channel has several lists of 100 phrases for different things..such as work, computer, dining...life things. Maybe a video on that. It could be a conversation video. Learning a new language is fun....however challenging, i am slightly up in age so learning new language is a big challenge

I use a reverse chunk logic where I know all the por uses and if my sentence does not fit por, I figure it must be para. There is one situation where the rules are fuzzy, para = for the purpose of and por= for the sake of. Good luck trying to figure these two uses. Nobody seems to explain these very well.
@silvestrenet9 ай бұрын
For the purpose of literally means : para el propósito or por el proposito but the translation is "A fin de" we don't use : "por el propósito de". Remember some expressions doesn't make sense in one language or another. With the purpose of : con el propósito de = a fin de = for the purpose of. For the sake of good : por el amor de Dios In Spanish with don't use "sake" as you use in English sake(benefit, welfare, reason, motive, good or right) in Spanish with use "amor" "love" instead of sake. That's why we use "por" instead of "para"
