POR should be covered with another coating if you're going offroad, bed liner or rocker guard spray could work.
@sunnydlight23753 жыл бұрын
overkill. just do another coat the next year.

I'm glad I seen this video before doing this to my frame. I've been thinking to use cold galvanized from a spray can on mine, then covering it with paint. I had a few bare spots that I covered with it on my boat trailer frame several years ago and it hasn't started to rust since. And that's with me launching it in the Gulf of Mexico on a regular basis.
@3rdstallgarage Жыл бұрын
If you had it to do again, would you do the metal preparation step (spray it and then wash down) or would you just clean and put the POR15 directly in the clean metal? Thansk for the vid!

For anyone reading this after watching. POR-15 is a chemical conversion which requires rust. I've only ever seen it peel when it was not applied to rust. No matter the prep, it will not stick. If you take it to bare metal or are coating something that isn't rusty, you're better off with another product.
@JeepingNet4 жыл бұрын
I completely agree, however, Por15 on the instructions say it can be used on bare metal. It does though on another part of their website say it works best with rusted metal. When I contacted them about it they said as long as you use Metal Prep it will be fine. I have mixed experience with that as it held up fine in areas like under my floorboards. I'll continue to use the produce on rusted metals. And more traditional coats on bare metals.

Big mistake on the eastwood internal frame. Rusts even quicker with moisture build up. fluid film or something like corroseal only way to go.
@JeepingNet4 жыл бұрын
Interesting I've never heard that before. I'll certainly keep an eye on it. I actually just put 3 cans of fluid film through the Jeep 3 days ago. I do highly suggest fluid film, especially in those areas you can't easily key an eye on.

how did you prep between the POR15 and bed liner? did you lay it on when the POR15 was still tacky? still holding up to this day?
@JeepingNet3 жыл бұрын
For the interior, it was a few days between the Por15 and Monstaliner. I used a scotch pad and roughed up the surface, I think washed with dove soap, it dry, and then came back with some degreaser and cleaned it up. It's been a few years now and my Monstraliner has held up insanely well. It looks as good as the day I did it.

thin coats of POR15....I wonder if you did heavy coats hence why it may have peeled that way
@JeepingNet4 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure you can really do heavy coats on anything over than something that is completely flat. This stuff is the consistency of water and not sticky at all when it first comes out of the can. I still really like it but for anything that gets wear, I'm finding it's not holding up. Nothing would really hold up but at least other paints would flake off. For skids going forward I'm just going to use cheap spray paint but any parts that aren't getting dragged over rocks Por15. My Por15 on the interior locations and on the bottom of the tub are awesome.

Its definfinitely a 2nd coat, after it dries to fill in areas it didnt fully cover the first time around. Just know, 15 years ago a friend used it on his entire rusted doors on his offroad vechicle & it did very well. Excellent video & 2 year review.. Hope you have a better year ahead! I about to do this project on my 95 bronco. The fun begins.

Also theres a good amount of top coat of extra protection that goes on top of the POR-15. I have a POR15 booklet, that has added protection for various parts of the truck. Even up to 1400 degrees and 2,000 degrees exhuast parts. Just watching your take, jump starting my project. Truly appreciate it. Winter is near!

Did you prep and seal your gas tank, maybe I missed that ?
@JeepingNet3 жыл бұрын
No, I purposely didn't prep the gas tank skid. I wanted to see if it make much of a difference. I smashed and dragged the skid over so many rocks before replacing it this summer no paint would have held up to it. However, inside the skid was still in pretty good shape.
@rickedwards71723 жыл бұрын
Thanks. My dilemma is I recently got a hold of a 92 Stealth tt, that was stored for 11 years in a garage, without any storage prep :_ ) So the gas in the tank was not gas, but pretty much 100 percent veneer, and it is pretty rusted. So I was looking at the best option to restore it. I was also looking for an option to restore some on the under carriage also; I enjoyed your advice.
