ATTENTION EVERYONE !! This song is a trap. It's like a pit. Once you fall , there is no getting out. You listen to this song once and you get addicted, caught in a vicious cycle of replays and reloads and repeats. Ohh ... and one more thing... it's AWESOME !!

@@johnbunalski2414 The only drummer I've ever seen who gave him any real competition is Marco Minneman, also playing with Steven Wilson, who is quite simply amazing in his own right. Edit 2: 8 years and counting. I'd also like to add that I'm not really into heavier rock (I'm more into Beatles, Pink Floyd, Dire Straits, that kind of rock) but man, I simply love the way this song slowly builds to the climax, exploding at 7:08. I instantly turn into a headbanger every time it reaches that point.

James I get you. I'm gen-X and cut my teeth on the same stuff you did in the late 70s-early 90s (toss in Yes, King Crimson, Gentle Giant...) though I fell out of love with it around the late 90's / early 2000s. I think Ozric Tentacles (Jurassic Shift) may have been the last prog cd I bought in that era. Somehow I stumbled across PT and Steven Wilson maybe 6 years ago and was immediately blown away. Listened to everything I could find, live and studio. It's the classic prog combo of virtuosic musicianship that allows all band members space to jam together, independently, then tighten up, then rock out bombastically yet remain consistent to the context of the pieces, which are more often than not thematically interconnected. Anyways, the best modern prog brings me back to a long time ago, listening to Hemispheres, or Animals, or Selling England By The Pound on headphones in my room while studying in high school. Eerie feeling. Love the PT dual-lead-guitar Thin Lizzy style (sort of?) on this one too. Excuse the ramble :-) Peace.

It’s probably the most hauntingly captivating songs I have ever heard. It draws you in and you feel that there is no escape from its totally hypnotic repeating theme. The musicianship and musical phrasing are so good and when the key changes from melancholic minor half chords to full on major chords you know you have no choice but to listen to the very end of the song and then to repeat it many more times until you almost become part of the story of the song itself. There must be a help group for those who have fallen hopelessly in love with the Porcupine Tree, Steven Wilson’s music, but I am not ready to be released from the spell he casts quite yet.

Haha no way. i am a huge pt fanboy and even i will admit both of those two guitarists are better. their contributions to rock far exceeds the milestones of Steve WIlson. Besides, WIlson is more of a composer than a guitarist.
@Cousy83

.....more for comedic purposes, but I am the biggest Gilmour fan this side of the Mississippi, and even I know Steven Wilson technically a better guitarist. When the hell did I EVER say Wilson's contributions to rock even come close to Iommi or Gilmour? There is literally no person on the face of this earth who thinks that...

First of all, technicality was not Gilmours strong suite. he didn't play complex music but god damn it was moving. And your first comment was not very specific so i wasn't very sure what you meant by it, my bad.

I would like to think they buy the records like i do, cause when you want something done properly, you pay for it. That way you don't need to rely on useless human beings who can't even upload the standard frequencies rates Non super audio Cd's posses. 1 in 20 videos i listen to are in the actual audio quality. Which to me says allot about you-tube.. And if you think that fact aint depressing enough, imagine how many Pirated discographies are in shitty quality. Its just not worth the waste of time really. i earn enough to buy 2 of their cd's an hour (3-4 if its from cd connection) a price i will gladly pay.

AmnesiaHaze "Buying for supporting artist".......Why should we spend money on an album where the artist on get like 10p and the thieving record company's get the rest. Record companys have been stealing from artists for years and yet still nothing has been done! I think all music should be put out for free if they are going to carry on with the way they do! Just encourage fans to go to live gigs or buy merchandise!

I am from Moscow, and d like to say that I grew up listening to the inspiring, great British rock music of the 20th century( mainly progressive and psychodelic rock) . Without it my life would so poor. Some of the most significant days in my life were when i visited Roger Waters’s and Deep Purple concerts , when they were here in Moscow. This music can equally praise up to the sky and destruct us and that’s why it has always been so breathtaking. Thank you Great Britain for your culture, for your style, for your music and for dreamy, talented boys from your industrial cities , who had been creating some of the most beautiful non material heritage of our world

Never stop the car on a drive in the dark Never look for the truth in your mother's eyes Never trust the sound of rain upon a river Rushing through your ears Arriving somewhere but not here Did you imagine the final sound as a gun? Or the smashing windscreen of a car? Did you ever imagine the last thing you'd hear as you're fading out was a song? All my designs, simplified And all of my plans, compromised All of my dreams, sacrificed Ever had the feeling you've been here before? Drinking down the poison the way you were taught Every thought from here on in your life begins And all you knew was wrong? Did you see the red mist block your path? Did the scissors cut a way to your heart? Did you feel the envy for the sons of mothers tearing you apart?

I really don't care if Porcupine Tree is like another Pink Floyd or not. The fact is that they are awesome. I am a musician, and I do not judge music only by their musical appearance and composition hence I judge by "which music makes me shiver in my spine". So my benchmark is 'shivering in spine'. This is the first song I ever listened of Porcupine Tree and it made my spine shiver. Great job Porcupine Tree. Love you.

WOW... This is the first song I've ever heard from this group. WOW, GREAT. Does Pink Floyd finally have a contender?

Bruce Mayberry I first got into PT back in the mid-90's when I read a review of one of their albums that simply stated: "What Pink Floyd SHOULD sound like now". And I've loved them ever since. Unfortunately it's sounding more and more like Steve Wilson may never do another PT album.

"The Sky Moves Sideways" is the album I referenced above. In my opinion when they sounded most like Pink Floyd. "In Abstentia" would be another great choice. In my opinion when they were most "prig-metal". But you really can't go wrong with any of them.

I was listening to this song during my adolescence in repeat, everyday, every night... AND THE TITLE ALWAYS CAUGHT ME. I knew I'm arriving somewhere but not here. Back then the place I wanted to reach is that place i'm in right now. Married the cutest and sweetest girl one can ever have. a cat in our home. a gaming setup. today I'm drinking beers in a sunday night jumping randomly into this song, listening to this masterpiece and saying to mysef '' I did it ''.
