Richard Barbieri's keyboard sounds are so otherworldly and so important to atmospherics and mood of Porcupine Tree's music. I honestly have no idea how his sounds are constructed, but its a lovely, textural part he adds.

Colin Edwin is such an underrated bass player. I just listened to a live version of the same song by Steven Wilson's band with Nick Beggs on bass. His lines were clunky, while Edwin's lines are effortlessly played and silky smooth.
@michaelhall14223 жыл бұрын
20 years of PT enjoyment for me. Colin is the most laid-back Bass genius I have ever had the pleasure of watching-Richard Barbieri dove-tails his genius with Stevens. No one is a better percussionist than Gavin (hard-working as one wrote below); what a talent. Steven is self taught on his guitar; and though he says he does read music, he produces the most satisfying composed surprises in sonic pleasure I have ever heard.
@VioletYT2 жыл бұрын
You said it perfectly - somehow the genius of Richard fits perfectly with the genius of Steven and I think they create this unique PT sound. I have to idea why people always try to compare PT with Pink Floyd or Anatema.. Porcupine tree has it's unique sound and feeling

i so so so agree to this. I saw Steven a year or so ago in LA for "The Hand Cannot Erase Tour" Holy Cow, i was never more disappointed. Steven did mention on his news letter that if you were going to see him that it was nothing like PT. I am sure that Nynet is cool in her own deal but I was hoping for something. My son is also a prog drummer and we are a Gavin Harrison home.
@saviophilip17765 жыл бұрын
@@pattichapinschneidermaluze3247 agree man. PT sounded like they did because of Steven's talent with music n sounds and Gavin's genius on drums n cymbals and ever so smooth rhythmic patterns. Never heard a drummer even close to Gavin's level.

I still hold Porcupine Tree to be a better band. Gavin is a beast of a drummer, and Steven is one of the best song writers I have heard in a while. I always felt like Opeth tries to too hard to be whatever it's trying to be. PT's music always feels so organic and natural, whereas Opeth has always felt too artificial it its composition. I also don't like the singers voice, but that's just me. Windowpane is their only song that I'm willing to listen to repeatedly

AudioholicsLIVE Awesome to know that someone is optimistic. :) I, on the other hand, am not sure about the comeback. Wilson is pretty determined to continue experimenting on his own... Don't get me wrong, I respect immensely his work, but I believe 90% of his fan base is still around today because of PT.

+Ixwhyzed I'm part of the 10% that met and follows his music as a solo artist, and who agrees with Steven himself when he says his newer work is better (I have yet to hear a better song than Routine). I think he can only get better, actually, but PT does have amazing music too. I just don't think they're necessary for SW to continue showing the world what he's got.
