Randolph the frog & jack Yes Porcupine Tree is definitely my favorite band. Their music is so tight and wonderfully structured and executed. Steven is my favorite individual artist, I've seen him twice since the release of Hand. Cannot. Erase. and both shows were fantastic, deep and flawless really (too young to have seen Porcupine Tree though ):

Randolph the frog & jack I had given up on new bands. Gone were the likes of King Crimson, Genesis, YES, etc etc. then several years ago I find Mr Wilson and company. Thank you Rock God's. A musicians band to be sure. Talent, creativity, beauty, structure. If Mozart were alive today this is the band he'd be listening to.

I like how the drum beat breaks at 07:56 into a normal one for 3 bars and then switches back to the songs normal rythm, EPIC!
@lilymuu3 жыл бұрын
I'm a bit late, but I just wanted to say that's actually not even a typical 4/4 beat: Gavin is utilizing "metric modulation" there to give the _illusion_ that he's playing a straightforward beat. In reality, starting on count 4 (with a snare drum hit), Gavin actually begins playing eighth-note triplets over the rest of the band--they don't shift subdivisions. He's playing triplets on the ride and using the bell to create a quarter-note pulse by accenting every other hit; this is what gives the illusion that he's playing a basic 4/4 beat along with everyone else. But that's the catch: The pattern he's playing _is_ a basic 4/4 beat, it's just not played in the way that you would expect it!
@Prizzy999 Жыл бұрын
Gavin that licks his finger and swipes it on the drum to make that particular sound is mindblowing, seriously. What a song and what a live performance from the whole band, epic!!

I love how in the verse structure, Steven's chugging riffs are rock/bluesy, yet that single chord Barbieri plays either side of it makes it much darker.
@manco8288 жыл бұрын
Not bluesy, Steven Wilson specifically has said he doesn't like blues music.
@Sebastian_ignasi08 жыл бұрын
+manco82 the fact that he doesn't like that style, doesn't mean he can't use some of its characteristics as a tool to write his own songs, if you have listened to blues you will see how the way that's used the pentatonic scale in here, added to the wah pedal and the picking, sounds bluesy
@DanielVerberne8 жыл бұрын
Thankyou Sebastian, yes, it does sound bluesy, even if it isn't Steven Wilson's preferred genre. Blues is the basis of much of western music, of course.

Well, if you go on Classic Rock Magazine channel on KZbin you can find some recent interview with very specific question about the future of Porcupine Tree. When questioned, Steven just said that he hasn't immediate plans of coming back to the band in an immediate future, though he's left the door open and he's still in contact with all of the guys in PT. So, I don't think there has been talk about a 2016 tour but... Who knows! I'm pretty sure it's gonna happen someday!
