Basically this song talks about how pop artists have made their way through by using merely four chords in their songs (which are e b c#m a). These chords are the backbone of every mayor pop song written in the last 4 decades, which are nothing more than shallow and empty songs that do not bring anything new or interesting to the table. They only focus on superficial mass moving lyrics and melody instead of creating music in a meaningful, creative way with deep philosofical & esoteric lyrics

In other words its about people who use music as a way of making money and gaining fame instead of a way of expressing themselves, even if no one understands it, for personal gratification. Which is basically the whole point of ART.

Great song. I like how they mock mainstream music with the repetitive chorus. But it's a good message, and it needs to be repeated. Check out Jon Lajoie's "Pop Song". Same message, but it's made to be real funny.

Is steven wilson trying to bash nirvana or kurt cobain? I mean I love both bands bit it might be another pop mainstream song there are tones with only 4 chords
@Swim_Jonse7 жыл бұрын
There are a ton of bands/artists with "four chord" songs, Nirvana is just one. Few popular standouts of the particular progression in question here: With or Without You by U2 Forever Young by Alphaville We Didn't Start the Fire by Billy Joel Don't Stop Believin' by Journey Cash's cover of Hurt by NIN Here In Your Arms by Hellogoodbye These are variations, some slight, some moderate: It's the End of the World as We Know It by R.E.M. True Love Waits by Radiohead Virtually anything sampling Canon in D Hurt by NIN Literally half the pop tunes you hear on the radio by any non-musician whose 'songs' have been made by a guy in FL Studio with no input from the vocalist-to-be.

what's bad about song that has 4 chords? lame does song need to have 1324648453 chords to be good?
@christiandubeau206 жыл бұрын
There is nothing wrong with a song that has only 4 chords. And no one said that complexity=good music. But when it is the EXACT same 4 chords in EVERY....SINGLE...POP SONG, then your brain starts to cry out for change! I am so sick of I-V-vi-IV right now that I want to puke every time I hear it....
@seekah114 жыл бұрын
@SupermansWheelchair1 There are much MUCH worse bands than Oasis. Also the line about black guitars or plastic blues makes no sense whatsoever. Its more likely some idiotic,contrived emo band pitched for the kiddies.
