Pure euphoria, all in all, this tune! At first it starts almost as trickery; a joyful folk song of some kind. Then it transcends into a more spacey semi-melancholic tune bringing on the atmospheric sounds in the background. After that it breaks down with some beautiful organ and guitar sounds starting to behave even more atmospheric, and about halfway out there it has escalated almost unnoticably into a mesmerizing psychedelic trip. The feelings I get from this are mixed, because it blends so beautifully melancholia, nostalgia, uplifting chords. Anyway, as I said in the beginning - it adds up to pure euphoria! When I first heard this tune about 5-6 years ago, I had it on repeat on my music player every morning while riding the bus to work... it gave me just the "restart" that I needed and it relieved me from a lot of culminated negative thoughts. Porcupine Tree has been a solution to many problems.

I am a huge Gavin Harrison fan, but this is one song I can say that he cannot (and didn't, based on the live versions of this song he played on with PT) beat the feel of the drums on the original recording by Chris Maitland.

my favorite pt song! @ nerotonic..the speech that starts at 2:30 and continues later is from the letter written by the' heavens gate' cult leader to explain why he and his cult followers commited suicide....they believed that they were not human, but alien. members of their alien race were coming to get them; they couldnt be taken back to their home planet unless their human bodies were dead...hence the suicides..

well i think except for the mass murder mr applewhite talks about alot of fascinating topics which requires the understanding beyond intellect. But there is also a possibility he might be right or life and death itself might be an illusion of the mind and fear might be the pillar of rationality

This sounds so great! Im a little worried though because more HD versions on youtube have a tinnitus like sound that starts at about 0:55 And im thinking it could be on the album too. Sometimes Steven Wilson makes these little mistakes it seems. No matter.

I know this comment is 6 years old so you may already have found out, but the audio is from the initiation tapes of the Heaven's Gate cult. They believed that the Hale Bopp comet would take them to the Next Level Above Human, and they all killed themselves when the comet appeared in 1997 (except for four-two who killed themselves two years later and two who still maintain the website to this day)
