One of the greatest bands of all time, I put them in the same category as Pink Floyd & Opeth my two other favorite bands, and Radiohead is up there too and I love how Porcupine Tree even used some of that style in their songs.

My son named Daniel (not David as in the song) recently took his own life totally out of the blue, at the age of 24. I'm crying my eyes out listening to this now. Its always been one of Stevens best songs. Now it really hits hard.

There are no words to help, but I'm gonna try! I hope you're doing ok (or as well as can be). Whatever you do, don't follow your son down to the valley below. I think that great music like this helps release the sorrow, and maybe time does not heal all wounds, but in my experience it does reduce the pain of losing someone you love. All we really are, is our memories, so I'd say to try and cherish those of your son for as long as the universe gives you leave to be here, because there's a pretty high probability that we don't get another go on the emotional rollercoaster that this experience called "life" is. PS: It it better to have loved and lost than to have never loved at all? Me, I've never had kids and am too old now. So maybe I don't really have a clue!
@lowelindroth7053
@lowelindroth7053 20 күн бұрын
@@richardmcsharry thx alot Richard for your caring words - and what you say is really true. In time the good memories will be remembered the most, now all we can think of is what we didnt to to help him, how we didnt understand he was in such a low place, psychologically. As you say, music helps you deal with the sorrow, listening to good music that hits home makes yout think, and process the sorrow. Thanks again, and wish you all the best.

As everyone is sharing their experience, I want to share mine. Once, I was sitting by the lake one evening and listening to my playlist , alone , nobody around just stillness of the water and silent ripples, some birds romancing in the trees and I sitting on a rock by the lake side. And this song comes on and it never felt so beautiful to hear this song , I was connecting to every line and every word. It felt so special and quite a subtle sweet experience. Something I would not want to overdo and ruin the taste. From that point on , I never listen to this song to keep that experience and feeling safe in my memory and save it for the time when I go to my village ,visit that place again . Lesson from the song: You are on a train and life is a journey ,things move fast and people and places fly by fast. Things which are smaller and closer go by faster and things which are far go by slow , but in time ,everything will eventually go by . You will be sitting by the window just watching them go , you can't stop the train or hold on to things forever. Better if there is someone sitting next to you a family a friend or a partner to share the little moments together, look out the window together and you can do nothing but just cherish your old summer days and your beautiful unaware childhood.

Steven Wilson can only write beautiful, meaningful songs that make you think, feel emotions, change your life for the better. This man's just incredible. How does he do that? Dunno. Makes one wonder if he went through a huge amount of pain and struggle on his early years/teens and he just pours all that into his songs, but we know he actually had a normal, happy childhood. So I guess he's just a genius and that's it 😊

As everyone is sharing their story, why not me?? So, this was the first ever song i heard from PT. No doubt this song catches everyone with its first impression. It was 2016. Slowly started to discover them. Trains, Russia on Ice, Deform to Form a star, Dark Matter, Legends of Legend Anesthetize and 100s of more from PT + Blackfield + SW's solo albums specially Hand cannot erase.. C'mon man, how can someone be this talented? If God of Music ever exists, SW is god of music for me. He is musical genius. My life's one of the goal is to meet him and say Thank you for his contribution towards Music. Been almost 8 years now. Never tired of listening songs from him. He has song for every kind of mood. Outro Solo of "A door marked summer" gives me goosebumps everytime. That solo is absolutely unreal. Go and check it out if you guys havenot... In real, if i meet anyone who has been lucky enough to discover this band, i can talk with them infinitely. I will love them. My respect for them will increase more. I will thank them for listening to PT.... Okay.. no more emotions,, I am just another big fan of PT like everyone else and they will know how it feels to be part of PT,..
