As much as I like SW's solo work, nothing will top the way the Gavin Harrison-era PT played complex, yet tightly constructed songs with a one-of-a-kind sonic chemistry; Technical drums, silky smooth bass, biting guitars and atmospheric synth landscapes.

As a drummer for years (since 1968) who evolved lovingly through all the prog bands I noticed this new, amazing, drummer in King Crimson. Gavin Harrison. Best drummer currently playing. Introduced me to the best band currently (?!) playing. What talents, Gavin, Stephen, etc al.

A massive album early on often spells the death of a band which is why I'm glad that PT never became mega-huge. . They just kept getting better and better, then broke up and Steven Wilson kept on going and is going to end up who knows where.....amazing. Perhaps a PT reunion is in the cards, which WOULD be huge.
@jeffreygrove4 жыл бұрын
Steven claims he will never reform PT because there's no point in 'going backwards', _but_ he has gone back on other things he's said in the past, so who knows. That said, between the delay in releasing/promoting The Future Bites and our current pandemic mess, it seems unlikely it could happen within the next two years.

@@JuanPablo-rr5dy LOL, he's been involved in "some sort of weird film project" seemingly forever - I guess you mean the supposed resurrection/reworking of the Deadwing material that was intended for some kind of film that was never completed (or even started?). As with many of the things he says he's doing, I'll believe it when we have a finished product!

@@jeffreygrove True, I think he said something similar about not being committed to a long term romantic relationship because it would interfere with his art. But he's happily married now, so hopefully he changes his mind about PT. Thing is, I just recently read an article where he said he isn't inspired by the guitar anymore, which sucks because guitar is a big part of PT.

A week ago, I had never heard of PT, but I found references to Gavin's elite status in drumming circles-and yes, I am blown away with Gavin's insane technique and capabilities, but also with the music and the whole band. Can't believe I've gone this far without knowing about them.
@jeffreygrove4 жыл бұрын
Gavin pointed out that he never auditioned for King Crimson - he was simply asked to join, Fripp having seen him perform dozens of times on the 2007 KC-PT tour. He was easily my favorite of the 3 drummers up front when I saw Crimson back in 2018 (or 2017? can't even remember anymore), and he has the most amazingly distinctive sound and style. On top of being amazingly technically proficient and really good at playing "in the pocket" as drummers like to say, he also is so adaptable that he was able to play on SW's Insurgentes album without sounding like himself. Whenever the other PT manages to make it back here to the States I am going to go - not only have I been getting more into their music of late, but for sure Gavin is an attraction unto himself. Cheers!

I really miss PT (have seen PT twice here in sweden, in Gothenburg and Stockholm), and after that seen Steven four times (Raven, Hand Cannot Erase (happy to seen Guthrie and Marco playing), 4 and a half and the last time To the Bone Tour). I have during the years also enjoyed the music from the other past members of PT (RB, Colin and also the great Gavin (King Crimson and Pineapple Thief). I can also recommend John Weasley who has made great music since PT dissolved. I want to thank the great British record store Burning Shed for all the great releases :) Looking forward to see Pineapple Thief in Stockholm when the Corona stuff pass.
