This game is such a strange phenomenon. - It features a unique randomized weather/background system that changes with every playthrough. -A good portion of the music has a haunting, foreboding or ambient feel to it that clearly doesn't match up with the wacky nature of Looney Tunes. -Porky is surprisingly really well-animated compared to the enemies and bosses that have like 5-to-15 sprites each. -Nearly every track has an unused and slightly corrupted "Side B" version that would most likely be tied to the aforementioned randomized background system. -More unused content suggests there would've been a level based on Feudal Japan, a second phase for the final boss and an option to play as Daffy Duck.

Where can I find that content, mate?
@AcronymARES3 жыл бұрын
@@andrewlawrence5934 I'd suggest checking out The Cutting Room Floor since they focus on finding unused and/or cut video game content. I'd post the link to this game's page here but KZbin's hella strict with url links. The game's OST's already on KZbin if you wanna listen to the unused "Side B" and Japan level music.

More technical. Intentionally generating an error which exploited a flaw to play PCM on all of the channels in the environment provided really was something else. Call it a cheap sound driver hack this is one of my favorites. Even if it did tend to fry the DSP if you left games that use this technique on too long. Really produced some nice quality sound.

Porky Pig's Haunted Holiday was developed by Phoenix Interactive Entertainment. Darren Melbourne designed the core elements of the game while Kev Bruce composed the music and sound effects. The Merry-Go-Round Broke Down song, also known as the Looney Tunes theme, was added to the game. Notable graphical effects include parallax scrolling and a weather effect which means that every time the game is played the weather can be different. For example: sometimes it may be snowing and sometimes it may be raining. The game's publisher was originally Hudson Soft, who owned the license to publish games with Warner Bros. characters at the time, but it sold the rights to Porky Pig's Haunted Holiday on to Acclaim Entertainment in 1995. The game was ultimately published by Sunsoft. Some versions of the game were published and distributed by Acclaim and some by Sunsoft, both under license of Warner Bros., the same as the Sunsoft/Acclaim-published games as Speedy Gonzales: Los Gatos Bandidos, Justice League Task Force, and Scooby-Doo Mystery. Another fact is that the game was originally developed by Sunsoft, complete with different background music and more hyperactive Porky sound bytes. However, the game was re-worked by Acclaim and sold that way. When the game is displayed on ROM sites, the Beta version is the Sunsoft version, while the regular version is Acclaim. Developed by Phoenix Interactive Entertainment, Dark Technologies, Chip Level Designs, Warner Bros. Consumer Products, and published by Sunsoft, and published and distributed by Acclaim, and licensed by Nintendo. The game was currently distributed by Majesco Entertainment and Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment.

Jesus Christ, the music for this game is so haunting and too depressing. It does not at all fit the cutesy graphics or lighthearted concept of a game starring a titular character from the Looney Tunes franchise. It sounds like outtakes from a Sigur Rós recording session recorded on a Casio keyboard.

My stepsister had this game and I remember being a young kid, watching her play because I wasn't very good at platformers yet. This and Donkey Kong Country, late summer nights with all the lights out and just the glow of our big, chunky TV. I had to look it up to make sure i hadn't imagined it and only now have I realized that she never did make it past level one when I was watching. I always thought that first level was terrifying as a kid, especially the tree part.

About the only emulator I've gotten this to run on is bsnes accuracy mode. It does some things to the SNES sound chip that most games don't do. But when you get it working its the most depressing, and scary Looney Tunes game of the lineup. I can't say its not worth the play-through, it is. But don't do it if you're in an already bad mood. Those two headed Daffy Ducks are enough to put you in one. xD 44:30 is a hidden SNES SPC sound gem you won't hear unless you frustrated your way through this game.

I think Phoenix Interactive Entertainment (a.k.a. Dark Technologies), besides developing NES and Game Boy games, as well as this game, developed a lot of undumped Sega Genesis, SNES and NES games. There, for Genesis development, Kevin Bateson said he used MIDI which was converted to the GEMS driver.

I think one thing that bugs me (no pun intended) is Porky's walk animation. He looks off balance at times, like when he switches between walking and standing on an edge- and he doesn't look like he's all that scared. Shame it's the one game EVER made starring porky- I get that beyond his stuttering he's just a fairly normal guy whos a bit too passive and gullible for his own good, but that could have been fixed through working with him more.
