Pinning this with common Q&A Q: What about moments where you need to move camera and cast abilities at the same time? Isn't it impossible for you to do both since your hand can't be on both sides of the keyboard? A: This situation never actually happens. My keyboard is already pre-centered on where the action is going to occur. For example, if I'm heading towards a fight, the camera is already positioned at the fight while I run to it. if the fight is moving in a specific direction, my camera is already positioned on that direction. If I'm diving a turret let's say, it's not like I have the camera on myself, then I dive the turret, then I'm like "oh shit I gotta move the camera" and I can't cast abilities. It's more like I know I'm diving a turret so I center the camera on the turret while I'm walking to it, then I dive. I can also move my camera during any window where there's ability buffers. Think Kayn R invulnerability timer or Kayn W grounding him for half a second. All this combined means I literally just do not ever run into situations where I gotta move my camera and cast abilities at the same time. Q: Why not use WASD? Same benefits as arrow keys but the keys are even closer A: I answered this in the video twice, but for those who didn't watch it or were skipping around or something, the answer is that my hand is way too inflexible to have that many keys that close together. It actively hurts my hand to have keys in close proximity, such as Minecraft sprinting and crouching hurting my hand. Trying to use WASD 1234 together would just result in my hand cramping up all the time.

Yap, im using WASD camera, with skills on: QEFC around that, R is attack move, TAB is stop move. Its so symmetric if u see it on the KB. Active items on 2-3 number keys just above the W button, eay to reach, and symmetric too.

I remember I played minecraft pvp/hg with unusual setup of key bindings too, my sprint was on Ctrl, meanwhile my inventory was on R, and I moved with convencional asdw. So my thumb was fixed permanently over ctrl, while my other fingers had to move across all the keyboard space, and so I played with a folded hanh all the time. I was pretty good at quickdropping and x1 in general, but not a beast of a player , but when my friends saw me play by the first time in person they thought I was a madman, because sometimes I had pressed ctrl with my thumb and 7-8-9 keys with my pinky, having my elbow elevated and my wrist rotated almost 180 from a normal position, just to drink a soup while sprinting, and mouse clicking like crazy. And most impressive: Yea, it was all really quick movement, muscle memory is something much more powerful and influential then we might think. Also, when I had to change keyboards, I was significantly nerfed for months, ultil I had practiced and adquired good spacial awearness with the new keybord

I have attack move click bound to 3, which usually baffles people. The reason I do this is because I used to be a fiora one trick, and the 3 key is right above the E key, which is her AA reset. The muscle memory remained, and I still do this despite being a Hwei main now lol

I actually did not think about it really until watching this, but I also only type with like 3 of my fingers; both pointers and my left middle finger, and it's worked wonderfully for me for at least 20 something years. I never really thought about it and I laughed when I saw this and said "man, it's kinda weird you don't use your thumb to hit spacebar when typing", and spending at least 30 seconds completely missing the fact that I don't either LOL. Learned it that way because my hands were small and my fingers were long so stretching them apart was really uncomfortable. The creative things we do to compensate for discomfort is mindblowing.

i personally use WASD for cam, and shifted skills and spells to be QERT and FG. i had similar binds when i played MMOs. 1-6 and QERTFG + modifier keys (shift, ctrl)

My GF had a similar game camera situation. She used to play WoW without a mouse, and as a result had camera controls on the WASD keys. Even though she has a mouse now, she still uses the manual camera on WASD and shifts the W, E and R abilities over one key to E, R and T. I tried using her account once. Never again. Bonus: I have self cast on ASDF and summoners on mouse side buttons.

I wish there was an option to set the camera control to what Heros of the Storm has. The camera moves with your hero as if it's locked onto it, but you can move the center elsewere with the usual ways you have in League. Since the camera moves with you, there's no need for constant adjustments, but you still have far vision in the direction you need. I'm used to playing with locked camera in League and didn't have any issues whatsoever using these camera controls.

Flexibility is based on stretching. If you never move your hand thats why it feels bad. Its very unlikely that it has to do with something your born with, similiar to how doing the splits is a effectively a practice thing not a "are you born able to" thing.

You would think, but I'm inflexible all the way around to a concerning degree. I ran cross country for 5 years and we stretch daily, but I was so horrid at stretching that the nurse wrote up a note for me that specifically excused me from doing the stretches since she said they were more likely to hurt me than not. Also I have the school record for the WORST sit and reach test ever clocked, at -14 inches

In a game all about fast rections, having your hand on arrow keys when you need to Q fat ist pretty bad. You even said you use Quickcast cause the indicators slow you down by like 1ms, but moving your entire hand accross the keyboard is even slower?

I always used the arrows movement and kept moving my hand back and forth from the QWER and never once felt like it was such a problem. I find strange that people look at this control scheme and act so surprised xD. It just works! And I find I have more control playing like this than moving the camera with my mouse.

As a former laptop gamer I understand your pain; I however went the opposite, arguably more, psychopathic route and played 2 hands on the track pad and only used mouse control (except for flaming people that were probably better than me). As such I can't judge you too much :P

Nidhogg recently made a video about using WASD for camera control to keep your cursor focused on the fight, and he also uses lower DPI for more precise mouse movement. I haven't tried it as I haven't really been playing League for the last month or so, but it definitely sounds like an interesting idea once you get used to it.

Very interesting setup. Quick question though: Have you ever tried to increase your hand and finger flexibility through exercises? Back when I was a teen and started playing guitar I ran into a similar issue that you have with keyboards, I could not space my fingers far enough on the frets to play some chords properly due to lack of flexibility. A guitar instructor showed me some guitar exercises that really helped build flexibility and improve my playing. Perhaps something could benefit you, even if it isn't with the goal of changing your keybinds but simply reduce the pain of hitting keys like Shift in other games.

I also have the habit of moving the camera with arrows, but i do not relly entirely on it. I only do it when i need to click on certain spots at the same time (Which is like 50% of my camera moves.) I can't imagine using it 100% of the time.

There's usually an "fn lock" key on keyboards with special function for fkeys. Not sure if yours has one but if it does you could try that

i actually didn't think of misclicking. my first thought of a drawback is the fact that you can't use abilities while also moving the camera at the same time. With mouse controls, you can click to move, move the camera, and use abilities all at the same time, so if you have to quickly react to something while you are moving the camera, most players can flash or dash away. but you, i assume, would have to react to that happening, move your arm all the way back to the flash key, and then click it, which adds (im assuming) half a second of reaction time to anything that happens while you are moving the camera, which in today's league of legends can easily cost you your life. How do you overcome this?

Never comes up. There's essentially no scenario where I need to cast abilities and move my camera at the same time since I always have my camera centered around wherever the fight that's about to happen will occur. I also readjust my camera whenever an ability I'm casting has a buffer window. Take kayn for example who has a W with a buffer on cast, Q with a buffer during the dash, E where I cast it and then move through walls for multiple seconds, or R where I'm literally invulnerable and have nothing to cast. I can move my camera during any of these moments without losing even a millisecond of potential casting time

Look at your keyboard, search for an icon with F inside of a lock, or something similar. Once you have found this key, which should be on your Function row, press Fn+that key (Its usually Esc) Congrats, now your function keys are usable in-game and you have to press Fn+Volume key to change volume, the way it should be.

I feel like there is a setting to disable edge of screen camera control. Ill get back to you on that Edit: I thought setting mouse camera control speed to 0 would disable it but it didnt. There is a keybind in the menus section called "Toggle Mouse Screen Lock" that is bound to f9 by default but can be changed so you can use it. Downside is that you probably have to enable it at the start of every game and theres a red border around the screen, which shouldnt effect anything but is personal preference.

Unpopular opinion: for a lot of champs (especially melee champs) locked camera isn't that bad. You can always unlock it when you need to. Most people are just elitist. I have lock camera set to hold space which is probably not ideal, but again muscle memory and i have big hands. I just pick my thumb up whenever i want to move my camera

The best keybinds are actually on the right side of the keyboard anyways, kinda like the core hotkeys in starcraft 2, but the league version

Good method, think it's actually just better than edge-scrolling (especially with your proficiency). The only method as you mentioned is the WASD or SZXC for camera. Think scroll wheel drag is not better either since the whole point is to alleviate your mouse from having to control the camera. Good vid!

at the bottom of ur abilities, theres normally icons of their keybind, like q,w,e,r, just like the summoner spells. But your abilities do not seem to have these symbols beneath them ...

However, since I have both quickcast and quickcast with indicator binded individually, I actually just straight up dont have my default abilities binded to anything which makes it show up as empty.

been a gamer all my life and played tons of fps games so I actually customize all the games I play around wasd. My Q= A, W=S, E=D and my ult is W. Sums on Q and E. I also hate the default edge pan and can never get the settings right, so I play camera locked 75% of the time and go into the ui config for league to change mouse drag to The left mouse button (as lol won't let you by default)

The main con I find with this setup, that you don't talk about in this video, is actually: There are points in time in your game where you cannot cast spells, as you literaly don't have your hands on that side of your keyboard. Most players can, and will, use spells while moving the camera, with no problem whatsoever. This is, in my eyes, the true downside of such bindings - granted it shouldn't impact your winrate too much, but it would absolutely impact my ability to play the game if I were to play like you!
