356 videos are fine for me. Those 911 videos are really informative, even for the non Porsche guys, like me. But i kind of like more these 356 videos, just because i like more older tin.

Great progress and video. I wish I had taken pictures years ago during the disassembly of my '63 356B-nearly everything I pulled off was as-is from the factory. I remember that the steering coupler castellated nuts had cotter pins that were installed so that each end was bent back and fully tucked into the immediately adjacent crenel (the open part between merlons at the top of a castle wall). I tried to replicate it as best as possible with the new coupler. I do not mean this to be a debate over proper cotter pin installation, it was just the way I found it. Again, it is cathartic to watch the work.
@GarageTimeAutoResto2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for sharing the original steering coupler details. This was one of the first things I changed when I bought this car 25 years ago. I don't remember the cotter pin details, ha ha. But really good to know. Glad you swapped yours out too. Did yours have a ground wire too?

keep doing what you do. Both cars are great and the ingenuity that goes in to them both is interesting and informative. Some guitar soundtrack work from the son is always a bonus:)

Really appreciate this episode on the front end and steering wheel specifics. I'm now interested in the rehab of the turn signal unit and how you clean up the steering wheel.

Great job again. I like the content. It’s the real thing, and it needs to stay true to what real garage time is supposed to be. Personal request: before and after data of Mac on a track/road course. To compare the engine upgrade! Some driving footage is always appreciated too!
@GarageTimeAutoResto2 жыл бұрын
Thanks. One of the reasons I do this is because I thought too much detail was left out of car shows on TV. I show 95% of what all the steps are at least. I almost posted some video of me driving Benji's car with the new rear sway bar, but didn't. It got a little crazy on public roads 😂. For sure will do Mac track experiences and data. Thank you!

Keep whichever projects you need to work on flowing, personally I'm a 911 owner needing to find time start his, but all restoration methods are the same & similar parts! I'm going come away from my Corrado build on the my channel and move over the the VW T5 van as it's way more popular and I need to get rid of it! 😲😀

@@GarageTimeAutoResto It's just personal preference really. Here are the reasons: 1. I don't like the portrait format. I can see why you might use it for a video call but I feel it just isn't a good fit for the the type of content you and other content creators are making. 2. It sorta feels like a useless gimmick and KZbin is just trying to be like TikTok and other platforms that use that format. 3. I don't want them in my feed and there is no way to turn them off besides using some third party browser extension which I've found don't really work that well. 4. I think that type of content is shortening people's attention spans. These are obviously all personal opinions and you're free to do what you like. Thanks for the great content!

It is a wonder for me to see the progress on the 356. I found a very rusty A model when i was young but the owner would not sell the car. I watched it deteriorate over the years. It is a beautiful car, as are the 911. Very grateful to se Your videos. It can be a long wait to next saturday. 👍

Thanks! The 356 and 911 are created so differently and it's fun to see Porsche's progress back then. Yes, they are both beautiful!

Came for the 911, stuck around for the 356. I have a 911, but will likely never have a 356, so I don't need all the tips and procedures and whatnot, but I enjoy it all, and... who knows.. maybe...someday.

Tom- what’s the wire for on the steering shaft coupler? Thanks for documenting this- we know it’s a lot more additional work. Take your time between videos- we’ll be here.
@GarageTimeAutoResto2 жыл бұрын
Thanks so much, I want to get this car driving, but keep restoring individual things. Such as the steering wheel and seats. I think that is a ground wire for the sliding horn contact.

I'm interested in what you're going to do with the front end of the 911. What components you're going to use, etc. I'm hoping you're going to raise the spindles. I would be interested to see how it's done. I want to do it to my 87 Carrera.
@GarageTimeAutoResto2 жыл бұрын
Raised spindles are absolutely in the works, but I'm mostly unhappy with the Bilstein B6 inserts for my car. They are just too stiff for a car that doesn't weigh anything in the front. Ian, is helping me and we have big plans for new stuff including shocks, spindles, sway bars, etc.
@vin91142 жыл бұрын
@@GarageTimeAutoResto Thats good news. Can't wait to see how you do it.

I'm curious what you will do w the turn signal switch. My "65 C switch is probably original, doesn't return when signaling "left" and the "right" is starting to not engage or stay "up". Easy to rebuild or send it to a "pro" or just buy a new one? I'm not the ME you are but not afraid to try and fail, then get help :) And yes your 356 videos are awesome ... sold my Outlaw "70 911E years ago but that is a another story in a 911 line.

one little bit off topic question: does 356 have any kind of crash-bar protection on steering rod etc? this things scares me most on classic cars of that era, if we are talking road use.
@GarageTimeAutoResto2 жыл бұрын
To be honest, there really isn't any crush zones or break away elements to it. The 911 steering system is much better and safer. The good news is there is no engine up front to push the steering column in your face. So I guess the entire front of the car is a crumple zone.
@Abrothers1002 жыл бұрын
Quick question, what bolt/nut size to attach a 356 engine yolk to mount on a stand? It’s my first time trying to get an engine on a stand. I’m going to try and rebuild it. Thanks!
@GarageTimeAutoResto2 жыл бұрын
M10 x 90mm or so should work. There should already be two studs poking out under the flywheel, so you can use one of those.
