I was fortunate enough to get my 2021 Cayman GTS 4.0 in March and absolutely loved the way it handled and the sound from the 6 cylinder engine. Then I took it to the track in October and the race car within came out, and it was thrilling.

Well done for not saying this is a ‘de tuned’ version of the GT4 engine. It’s not. It just revs 200 RPM lower. That’s it. That’s where the extra 20hp on the GT4 is. The power and torque feels the same right up to 7800rpm.

Glad you’ve drove one Steff. Had mine since May and can’t think of anything more I need for the road. Stuck £12k of extras for long tours (is a manual and debadged so just has 718 on rear) so worked out nearly the same as a GT4 but with creature comforts. (My 595 comp is ideal for city driving and is also a keeper).

I‘m currently looking for a GTS 4.0 as a replacement for my TTRS. But I just can‘t live without the 5 Cylinder and a manual. But nonetheless I‘ve got a test drive appointment next week.

Manual GTS 4.0 is available. Had a 5 cylinder Audi and they're great but the Porsche F6 race car howl still beats it for me.

@@stevecade857 …if you stay in first gear on A roads and possibly second gear on the motorway. That gearbox is toooooooo long by a massive margin to get anything like a great driving experience out of the car. I saw one online review where the reviewer highlighted this by showing how they had to fake the video by overlaying the higher gear numbers in post production to make it look/sound like it was howling in third, fourth etc. Unless you track it or are on a private road you run out of speed limit early second gear! My personal preference is not to have to drop a cog into first gear just to enjoy a cars sound. In my book first is for pulling away. :)

Great vid Stef. I know it’s what Porsche claims, however the engine isn’t 100% the same between GTS and GT4/Spyder. A couple of peripherals differ from one to the other.

I had the GTS 4.0 on an extended test drive (several days). It's nice enough but the gearbox is awful. The clutch, however is amazing, but the actual manual shift...I've had better. It does 90mph in second which renders the whole driving experience null and void. What are the other gears for? OK, so it pulls in any gear, but if you want to hear that 6 cylinder engine then you are going to be spend most of your time in first or second (and even then you are on the edge of the UK speed limits). The PDK is functionally OK but is still over geared. Most of the online reviews of the GTS 4.0 are showing acceleration in first or second gear in order for it to sound nice. It looks OK (GT4 looks better). It sounds good and has a great chassis but it is not a driver's car; you cannot actually use any of it without doing insane speeds on UK roads. I'm sure that devout Porsche fans will disagree and staunchly defend the marque to the bitter end, but as someone with relative ambivalence to the brand I found it an expensive and compromised road car that cannot actually be driven properly on the road. The GT4 is a much better bet if you are prepared to take it to the track and enjoy it there on a regular basis. They cost similar amounts to run and the residuals are way better on a GT4 (if Porsche allow you to buy one!).

Oh man, I was loving this car until I read your review. That tall 2nd gear is a deal breaker for me. I was hoping to get this as my 2nd choice, but will have to look for an alternative if my 1st choice (Emira) falls through.

@@darrendonovan6679 I am in the same boat. I fancied a GT4 but they are like hens teeth, so I went trying out ‘second choices’ and realised my first choice wasn't really ‘me’ after all. My best advice is to test drive everything in the ball park. The Alpine A110s seriously surprised me and I bought one (six week lead time!). I would say that extended test drives of a few days are a must to really make sure you are in the right car. Best of luck.

@@darrendonovan6679 Hi, The GT4 has, unfortunately the same gearbox as the GTS4.0. The GT4 has basically GT3 based front suspension and a body kit. It also is ‘stuck’ in sport mode and can only have ‘some’ of the expensive driver assist toys (not parking cameras and adaptive cruise control etc). They also drink fuel like it is water (I only managed 22mpg on average. The GTS 4.0 is the better choice for the road but it is flawed.
