Porsche 911 992 vs. 991 Part 1 - Design and Style

While I like the 992 s, I think the 991.2 s hit all the buttons for me both interior and exterior in terms of looks, as far as the performance it’s about the same.

I own a 991.2 Targa 4 in Irish Green, and a Cognac/Espresso interior. I absolutely love the interior compared to the 992. I must admit I like the exterior of the 992 more, mostly for the bonnet that harps back to the 993 and the wider front track.

I defo prefer the 991.2, it looks so much nicer plus it sounds better. I also own a 991.2 carrera s convertible white with the bordeaux red roof, it's such a beauty!

Great video James! I like the 992, I think it looks really impressive and modern, but I still think the 991 is more beautiful. I think the Sports kit improves the 992 quite a bit front and rear, but not a fan of the digital interior, and of course the tiny gear selector. Also think the 992 is very color sensitive, best to pick a color which blends in more with the Black plastic sections. Seen them in your Grey color they look much better. And this one needs big wheels! Must say though, when one of these 992's passes you at night with the rear light bar it looks fantastic!

Another good video, James. I'm still not a 992 fan. While I like the engine tweaks, though they have introduced a bit of turbo lag according to some reviews, the car should have been smaller and lighter. I want my 911 to be a sports car, not a grand tourer.

The 992 is beautiful, except for the plastic strip that surrounds the exhaust outlets. I agree, a CF piece will likely be available, and would be the perfect upgrade, but I think Porsche cheaped out, letting these out of the box with a JETTA piece like that on such a high end car. Overall I still think I like the 997 style more overall, and will be in no hurry to sell mine for any of the newer versions. As usual, a great video, thanks!

Too bad Eithel RothsCHILD will NEVER accept incremental technological changes on any 911. He calls it a POOR man’s car, when people who can afford one are rich. He keeps complaining about 911s built for men, when there will never be one for him because he’s too much of a RothsCHILD to accept fate.

I think I like the back of the 992 and the front of the 991. (Although the aero kit would make them look pretty much the same.) 3.2 to 60 is very impressive for a base+ model. Can't even imagine what the big daddy turbo/turboS will be able to do.

I’ve never ever seen any 911 I wouldn’t have Love them all but any 4S is my fave You should stop worrying about Ruthie and buy her half a Turbo , yes split from front to back 😂 and you can have the other 1/4 😂 A black one and don’t fiddle with it Just seeing that wide back end in your garage , you’d never be away from it Great video as usual and just to say your editing and music are spot on, lot of effort but worth it As Ruth says “ I’d rather thrash an older model than worry about a new one “ 🙏

James I’ve a pre-order today a 992 Turbo S Delivery nov/dec try to find the 992 Turbo S vid to see what Porsche has changed the rear end , it’s much better now vs the 992 Carrera , the 3 lines/section are gone yea! I'm still on the fence about the 992 exterior, I haven't gotten over the open face front bumper, reminds me of a Cayenne. I do love the interior though, looks very nice. Look forward to the drag race! :)

Hi Vincent. I came from a 718s to the 992s and and they open face grill reminded me of the 718gts body kit, so I was drawn to it. But I do think the sports design front bumper looks great.

Hi James - Great video - Many thanks - couldn't help notice that the 992 had no chrome accents on the oil and water caps compared to your 991 engine bay. Porsche cost cutting? Do the chrome caps on your car fit the 992?

The 992 seems like an all around better car. I’m dying to get a chance to actually drive one. But I really dislike the 3rd brake light. To me, it just looks like the car has a bloody nose.

992 headlamp completely within the fender metal sheet is obviously way better design than 991 with lower part of the headlamp touching the bumper. 992's insider door open handle with L shaped lever is much better design than the finger trap of 991.

Nice comparison - interesting how the 992 distils the classic lines with a modern style - was that a scrape on the right rear wheel arch at 8:35 or just a trick of the light !

They're picking between the all-new 911 (992), a GT2 RS (991) and a 718 Cayman GT4. If you look closely you'll see, in the background, hiding in plain sight; between a 993 and a 928/944 is a Miami Blue 911 with a huge spoiler. It looks like a GT3. Except if you look closer you'll see the details of the 992. NOTE: the new wheels, different spoiler attachment, a light bar across the rear, and revised front clip. This car wasn't really there at all. Check out the lighting on the 992 GT3. It's WAY off! Looks like it was inserted post production.

992: amazing car, but...it's not there yet in terms of design. As you already and righteously mentioned: plastic! There's too much plastic! I am sure that the following generations will get rid of it. Remember the 80's cars that had all this plastic trim all over the place? All gone in a matter of 6 or 7 years and hopelessly outdated in a jiffy. This will happen too for our beloved Porsche 992 and a real reason why I will never fall for it.I will have to wait for the next generation. Wait and see.
