I looked at both a new 992.1 and a 991.2 for purchase and decided the 992 was too big, the console cup holder was right behind the manual shifter, had to buy an S to get a manual and the piano black was very scratch able. Both had the same engine and I saved $40k. Decision made- 991.2.

Last Xmas my amazing wife surprised me with a 991.2 Carrara S Cabriolet (2018) with less than 30K miles on it. We had a 2018 Macan, which we'd bought new, but this was my first Porsche performance car and I've been in love ever since! Yours is my favorite 911 channel of course because I so fully relate to your love of that black 991.2. And I was thrilled to hear the story of your being reunited with it. Our 991.2s are incredibly similar, with the exception of mine being convertible and having blacked out lettering in the rear. I've since put over 6K on it being my daily driver here in the Bay Area. I can't seem to go a day without enjoying it!

I had a 718, then a 992. Loved them both for different reasons. The tech on these cars is so advanced that, IMHO, it’s just more to break. I’m not chasing track times. I just want to enjoy a spirited drive. Active engine mounts, active suspension, electric turbo-all costly repairs. I think Porsche would crush it with a bare bones NA sports car that comes in at a competitive price. I know, I know… but one can dream.

I have had 964s, 997s, 991.1, 991.2 and now as of a week ago the 992. At the time I had each one, I loved each of them for what they offered, however as I bought the next model, I appreciated the newer style, drivability, power, etc more than the one it replaced. Similar comparison to classic american cars. I love the 69 camaro but I cant go back and would only appreciate owning one if it was a restomod. I am 59 years old and I want the creature comforts of what each new generation has to offer. Like you mentioned in your review of your 992, I agree some parts of the exterior could be improved, like the rear lower valance but the rest I really appreciate and I really dont mind the interior and like it more than my 991.2.

Edit: wrote below before listening, but added a bit. Thx for sharing. 2019 991.2 4 gts was my sweetspot! That's my keeper and I prefer it to the 992 for many reasons: size/feel, design, tech blend, looks, just about everything except power. Since I rarely use the power I have, I doubt I'll get the cheap tune to 500+hp, but that's easy to do if desired. And I don't want to offend anyone, but I think the quality of interior build is better on the 991.2.

Very nice format video and cool that you put on the spotlights comments from the users! I thought the comment about the IPad feeling of the 992 does made sense but to anyone contemplating to buy 991.2 or 992, I urge you to drive both and make up your mind based on your driving experience. I did not like the razor shape of the PDK knob of the 992 and was never a fan of the build quality of 992 back in 2020. But when I drove a 992 C2S coupe on track, the car felt so good - steering, engine noise in Sport+ at high rpm - that all my complaints on the interior cabin were forgotten and dare I say forgiven 😅

I seriously looked at the 992.2 GTS, although I loved the experience, new is always better but, not this time. I told the salesperson that I'll keep my 997 C4. on my way out he asked me if I didn't mind looking at the previous generation (991.2) needless to say i looked at 991.2 C4S with 9,710 miles, PDK, super clean, loaded with options, test drive it and fell in love with the power, handling, and price. so we welcomed the new to me 991.2 into the family. all under $110k with $20k more we could be in a turbo S territory... for me!!! a no brainer... having said that... i missed my 997 C4 wide ass. ;-)

Respectfully, I liked your channel's content and have always listened in for your rational and thoughtful analysis. However, I think you're headed in a direction that is not for me any longer. I was more into the variety of cars you've owned and appreciated your detailed experience about the wide spectrum of the brand, your ownership, and Porsche's growing technology. The vid you did on the "7 Types of Porsche Enthusiasts You Don't Want to Become" was great, with many insights on how to enjoy your car in an age of social media and opinions. I guess I feel like you are stepping into a few of these "types" in this video and/or encouraging others to be your avatars. Anyway, that's just my opinion and I hope you consider these comments as you further shape and define content for the. Your keen ability to categorize and type different moods of ownership is an interesting lens and provides lesson for all of us. On that note, I think you're becoming a victim of your own cautionary tales outlined in the "7 Types" video.

991.2 for all the reasons mentioned. In fact, I might make mine a relatively loaded base, last of the narrow bodies. Not mentioned among 992 complaints that I've seen here yet, the overcomplicated flush door handles on both 992's. For some that's fiddly nitpicking but it grates they fixed what weren't broke,...and speaking of, the 992's look like they might do just that. Perhaps mostly though, they don't have that assuring, natural (familiar) action and feel... Often mentioned, disdain for the fakakta 992's PDK shifter nubbin', perhaps my number one sour point - it's a huge demerit and the 992.2 a real missed opportunity to go back to a real shifter. They should come out with a dealer-installed kit to retrofit. People always mention the ridiculous size and shape, and I fully agree, but seldom mentioned is also the complete loss of the +/- function there. The 991's gave you the choice of using the paddles or the console shifter,....there are times when it's really nice to not mix shifts and steering functions, but still wanting to control the gears. I 'grew up' mostly with stick shifts into my 40s (let's just say I'm much older now) and I guess always want to have that reassuring feeling of my hand resting on or by the shifter - manual or automatic. Later edit: this shifter is all the more important given the fact of the more limited availability of manual...and even on the 992.1 most sold with the PDK anyway. That means the majority of the more recent model 911's out there now--used or new--have only the nubbin'. The only part of the 992, both gens, I would like to swap to the 991 is the hood, the creases are a nice ode to the classic 911's of yore.. Too bad we can't have it all, eh? All of the above said, I pulled in next to a gorgeous wide-hipped 993 C4S at the gas station the other day, the engine still purring. Man! All I could do to keep from being an idiot kid fawning (drooling) over it, though I did give the driver a solid thumbs up and got a nice grin and wave back for the sentiment! So, yes, the air cooled's are special. As Will said, one of the classic AC's AND a 991.2, hard to go wrong.

I’ve own several 911s through the years and my current 911 is a 992 GT3 RS. I will say this. For me the 991 both .1 and .2 is peak Porsche for me. They more raw more visceral more connected. I have sampled many 992 non GT cars. I find them dull and lacking . Refined , yes, capable yes but lacking . Also the 991 is the last generation that differentiates trim with body width ie wide body vs non wide body whereas the 992 everyone gets a wide body. The 991 followed heritage with the C4S as it got the wide body and the connected tail light strip with the 992 every model gets the connected taillight strip. 991 for the win.

My personal preference would be 991.2 > 992 The 992 does honestly feel more modern, and it feels like it could easily wear the badging of another manufacturer sadly. That said, I'd go for a 991.1 > 991.2 because [NA] > turbo 991.1 > 997.2 > 997.1 > 991.2 > 992 I drive a 996.1 and would love to upgrade once I can afford it.

I had a 997.2 Turbo manual traded it in on a 991.1 Turbo S (both convertibles). I have been looking at the 992.1 Turbo S convertible since they came out and the only thing I like is that it is new. I dislike the rear end. I dislike the shaver-looking shifter. The dash is too digital. Also, it just keeps getting bigger and heavier, which I dislike as well. I may just get a 992.2 Turbo S convertible with low mileage and keep it for a long time, but honestly, I'm not sure yet. I know while the interest rates are up and the used 992 prices are this high, I'm waiting it out. 2021 992 TTS convertibles are still selling at about 85-90% of the new MSRP. Ridiculous for a 4 year old car. To answer the question, to me the 991.2 is a better looking car.
