Corrosion starts at the weld between the hollow piston and the solid upper part with the thread and hex as the weld is never as solid a base for the subsequent chrome plating as the material right next to it. (In case you wanted to know 😊) The grease is a good idea against rust (dont know how well the polyurethane aux. spring takes it, though). On the 997 the front piston rods rust a lot faster and are a known MOT/TUV fail. 9x6 better quality in that respect. Good job on the refurbishment, love the dedication to also get the details right.
