I would be very, very careful replacing spring clips with jubilee clips on the coolant lines. The spring clips are designed to expand with the hose as it heats up and then contract as it cools, jubilee clips will obviously not expand and thus puts pressure on the hose every time it gets up to temperature. It will age the hoses far more prematurely than the spring clips. I have seen a few car where the hoses have split because jubilee clips have been used.

Hi Guy, thanks for the advice. And bugger, I didn’t know or think of that and it makes absolute sense. I guess that is the reason for those style of clips. Although that said, I did notice that OPC replaced some spring clips with jubilee clips when I last replaced a spring clip on the engine. Is there any specific areas you think I should change back to spring clips? Or are you saying everywhere on the coolant lines.

Hi Guy, thanks for this. I sent you an answer yesterday evening but seems not to have gone through. I was very concerned about what you said because it makes absolute sense. It cost me over 250€ to replace all of those JC’s so you can imagine, not to mention the work. I still have the old spring clips but some are cracked, others are rusty and some cleaned and plated. Costs for new ones are insane (14€ ea) and I need around 40 pieces. I just checked the Porsche parts site (D911) and all of the spring clips have been replaced with jubilee clips, even the genuine part. Which is strange. Or perhaps if I was cynical even Porsche has cottoned on to this and is happy to sell more hoses? Or is there something I am missing… my sons BMW also has genuine BMW jubilee clips on the coolant hoses. Regards Joël

@@My911 Morning. Sorry for the delayed reply, I was away for a couple of days and left my Macbook at home for once. I wouldn't worry too much, just something to be aware of. If the coolant hoses/lines are older then more of an issue, if new, might just mean they wear a lot quicker. I can't attach an image, but I think from memory it is only 10 or 11 connectors are on the "hot" lines, these are the ones I would be cautious about putting jubilee clips on. This image is the best I can find..... www.heritagepartscentre.com/media/schematics/tmp/diagram/996-Coolant-Hoses-_-Radiators.jpg

@@My911 I have replied a couple of times, but they don't seem to be there? I was saying that maybe look at the hose diagram, only around 10 clips are on the "hotter" pipes. i will try and find a link to the pipes that show which are hot and could be an issue. I will post that separately as I think KZbin might be stopping the replies with links?

Joël, I feel like I’ve become mildly obsessed with watching your progression on this project and it all started with a video of yours popping up when I was researching short shifter kits for my own 01 C2. I ended up opting for the Numeric (their shifter cables too). They may even finally be delivered today so I can contemplate actually doing the installation next week. I decided to put in new motor mounts at the same time and at the end of the process I will change the gearbox oil too. Fingers crossed it will significantly improve the overall shifting experience and return it to its earlier glory. Each time I see you under your car, I have lift envy, though with height restrictions, I couldn’t install one in my garage anyway…though I’d have been very tempted if I had ever found one like you did. I thoroughly enjoyed that old video too of when you did that project. Great foresight.

Hi Marcus, thanks for your message. It’s getting exciting now as the end is in sight. I am really looking forward to driving mine with the new set up. I’ve also got some 997.1 S manifolds which will make the car waaaaaayy faster and sound cooler. Well, I hope anyway 😅Good luck with your shifter work and let me know how the 911 drives afterwards. Very excited for you. Take care and have a good weekend, Joël

@@My911 I can only imagine how much you must be looking forward to driving your car again. Mine had been idle for two years. Having just recently completed a raft of service work plus putting new Michelin PS4s on, the car feels amazing. Shifter now imminent. I will be very interested in hearing about these 997.1 S manifolds. My entire exhaust system is stock and original. Still seems to be in remarkably decent condition but I’m beginning that research process of what to replace it with when the time comes. An improved sound to the tone and modest boost in power would be big plusses.

Hi, it’s mad how the time flies and suddenly it’s years since you drove it last. Mine has been off the road now longer than it has been on it in my ownership… I can’t wait. I have literally replaced or upgraded EVERYTHING 😅. Re the manifolds, get some while they are still cheap. They fit in perfectly and have same length tubes to the Cat, like a race car. It is supposed to up power by a very small margin and change engine tone. I simply had to have them!! They also look cooler than the box section standard ones. I too bought new tyres (Michelin) as my first job in 2020 when I took it off the road. So they have 0 miles in them. Shifter change will also make a vast difference as mine was mushy as hell. Really let the drive down actually. I am now secretly looking into some bucket seats, but don’t tell the wife… 😅 I need to get a pay rise first.

And one more thing. I went for the Design911 own brand of switchable PSE exhaust (DesignTeck) and they are very good indeed. My car already had PSE so the switch was already in the dash but a friend of mine did the whole job buying the OE dash switch and it looks awesome. Have a look to see if they still have them on offer. It changes everything.

Some stainless JC's have only a stainless strap , the actual worm drive bit is galv steel and they annoyingly rust , I've just removed some from my 20yr old boat engine and they're full stainless and after a quick wipe down , look like new. My 996 Turbo has the galv ones so I've been replacing those with full stainless along with some of the rusty P clips , looks so much better now.

Inspirational stuff as always Joël. I was going to say that it makes me want to get under my 996 and renovate - but actually it mostly fills me with 2 post lift-envy.🙂
@My911
@My911 9 ай бұрын
Ah yes, the lift. It does change everything. I searched for a good few years before I found it. That said, my good friend Ed in the UK has done the majority of the same work on his 996 (minus the rust removal) without a lift. So it is possible. Is yours suffering from rust bubbling too?

@@My911 I have a little trivial rust - mostly on things like suspension brace links (which clean up easily enough and are very satisfying to re-finish. My current focus, however, is on tracing and eliminating a rainwater leak that managed to soak much of the left-hand footwell, right up to & including the parcel shelf. My current thinking is that it may have been a blockage in the outlet from the LH roof drain in the rear wheel well. I too have M030 but given it's age, I'd like to replace with PSS10s when I win the lottery. I agree that everything is do-able by jacking the car from the ground but a proper lift would be a real game-changer - not that I have the space. Still green with envy, regardless.

Hi, I have only heard of leaks on cars with sunroofs so it must be the drain channel. Did you find it since?

Hi Joel, may I ask, the headlights, i see 911 is Rhd, did you have to replace them with Lhd in order to pass tuv?
@My911
@My911 8 ай бұрын
Hi, thanks for your message. I tried to get the TUV by adjusting my RHD lights (you can adjust the beam to flat) but that was not enough. The beam has to kick up to the curb. So I had to buy a set of LHD xenon lights. Used they were 1100£ from UK. But new, 5k!!

Good man. Any questions just ask. I went through all the options before buying a set. Even contacted Hella for some replacement projectors and researched others that might fit like BMW but nothing worked for me. One thing before you buy… make sure you look at them in your hands and check that every tab is attached and that there is no damp ingress around the seels. Take your car with you and plug them in the test them. I guess they will cost around 3k for a pair now. Good luck. Remember that Turbo lights are different to C2 models but both fit. The turbo lights have a reflective band around the lenses, standard cars have a corrugation on the plastic. I unwittingly bought turbo lights for my C2 but they look cool 🙂

STOP! Did I just see jubilee clips being used for coolant pipes?!! Jubilee clips do not expand and contract with heat.

Hi, thanks for your message. And yes, someone else bought this up too on here. So it’s a concern. That said, looking on the Porsche website (or design911) they do not sell the spring clamps anymore, they have replaced all of them with jubilee clips. So I am confused. Surely if OPC spec them, it’s OK to use them, right? Changing them out was a massive job and cost over €200! Regards Joël
