Instead of torquing down the four small bolts around the timing chain area, I would have torqued down all the major head bolts first, then torqued down the smaller bolts so the head is not distorted by being pulled down completely on the chain guide end. Were you following the instructions in the factory repair manual? If so, then I will retract my comment.

@@HelpMeDIY Wow, that's surprising. I am not questioning Jake's advice, I am just surprised by it. In the 60 years that I have been working on cars (like Alfa Romeos, Mercedes, Jaguar, Fiat, etc.) I always torqued down the smaller secondary fasteners in cylinder heads last, and torqued down the main head bolts first, to avoid distortion the cylinder head or getting it cocked on the head gasket by compressing one side of the head first before the main head bolts were tightened up.
