Join us on a tour of the Porsche Zuffenhausen production plant in Zuffenhausen, Stuttgart, Germany. This is Porsche's main production plant, where the iconic Porsche 911 has been built since 1963. This video includes production footage of both current and previous generations of the 911, the 992 and 991 series.

Production methods a world away from the Zuffenhausen plant I visited as a UK Porsche dealer technician in 1981, (although the original building is still there). With far, far lower production numbers in those days, and much less complex vehicles, all engines built at the plant were run-up on a dyno before installation, and when the cars were assembled, all 911's, Turbo's and 928's were road tested around the streets of Stuttgart before sign off. Truly hand built, over-engineered vehicles, which is surely why many of those that have been cared for are still around.

I visited the plant in 2019, when I was working as a consultant for Porsches IT-division. The most incredible thing to see, was how small the actual plant where they build the 911s is. It is just the size of a warehouse. Of course they operate different factories, but all 911s ever build where build in their old main factory. Seriously tiny, when compared to behemoths, like the main VW factory at wolfsburg, for example.

In 1978, I picked up the 928 in Zuffenhausen with my father after his previous 911. With a factory tour. I was given four halves of jam and cocoa at the reception in the morning - while I watched LeMans....I was nine years old, I'm not making this up. After that was the tour of the factory, where the 911s were still running in parallel. I was incredibly impressed. However, what is shown in this video is as technologically distant from my memories from 1978 as my golf game is from Mickelson's. Unbelievable.

Porsche loves to play up its rich heritage, and the newest version of the just-revealed 911 GT3 RS is meant to do just that. Called the Tribute to Carrera RS package, this special edition is visually inspired by the 1970s-era Carrera RS 2.7, which was the first RS-badged 911. Porsche will offer this option only in the U.S. market, which it says is the "second home" of the 911. It'll be part of the Exclusive Manufaktur customization program. The new Tribute to Carrera RS will cost $314,000-about $89k more than the '23 911 GT3 RS's $225,250 base price. It would be annoying to work there if you knew that you could never afford one! However, it's in my nature to do the very best at whatever I do. I would always put the piece onto the car as if I was building my very own. This is the Brand that I would pick...regardless of what else I could afford.

Most of this is 10 years old. At the beginning there's some 992 production. But most of the video is 991.1 and 981, which started production around 2011 and ended around 2015/16.

Wish we could see them welding the body of a 993. The production line was different then as there was much more skilled labor in making the cars. But that also made the production of the cars more expensive which is why hand welding went out with the production of the 996.

A pesar de no ser mi marca favorita, Porsche es una marca que merece el respeto de todos, pues se esmera por producir autos de la máxima calidad, procurando siempre satisfacer al cliente final y dejando en sus coches una identidad única que los ha caracterizado en toda su historia; un ejemplo de ello es el mítico 911 que pese al paso del tiempo nunca ha abandonado su particular diseño, y su producción se mantiene hasta hoy. 👍🏻

El Chiron está bien, vale para más que el Veyron, pero nada revolucionario, solamente más refinado porque Volkswagen pone el dinero y las piezas. Estamos en un punto en el que los coches son desechables porque los construyen robots baratos. Por eso pongo al T.50 como supremo en calidad e ingeniería. Pagani también lo hacemos a mano. Me encantan los Porsche tambien. Es un automóvil fantástico de mucho cache y con la fama que ha adquirido ese coche, es sin igual otro magnifico vehículo.
