A beautiful job as neat as I have seen... meticulous attention to detail, much patience, and frequent dolly work to prevent distortion. Most impressive job - minimal filler will be needed to finish

Great work...hope you can answer a few questions You say your welding at 20 amps...what amperage was used for tack welding ..what thicknes is the sheetmetal 20 gauge?... also what type wire was used and its thickness ... what size of tungston is preferred for fussion or wire filling this kinds of panels. Very good info shared with viewers

Morning. I’m tack welding at about 24amps, the body panel is 20 gauge steel and I’m using 0.6 Mig wire and it’s a 1.6 torch set up . Hope this helps 👍

@@Metal_shaper_tomlol😂never underestimate the ability of people to make things worse😂. Just kidding, man. I’ll definitely give it a shot. I’m Almost done restoring my 996 and then it’s time to enjoy it and get cracking on the Camaro. I’ve been looking for an air-cooled Porsche for a bit but here in the states, even a major project is crazy money.

Nice work. did you ever consider TIG welding with Silicon Bronze filler? it welds out with a lot less heat and dollies very nicely.
@Metal_shaper_tom Жыл бұрын
I wouldn’t join a panel using it personally myself. I don’t have an issue with it just personal preference. Thanks 👍

hi Tom just down the road from you, found Trev's channel so found you, great tips as forming a pick up cab for a 79 CJ7 making the cab like a series 2 landie , so your vid perfect for welding the curve corners, going to try and minimize the distortion so your technique great help, what was the power amps you use ? thanks again Sam
@Metal_shaper_tom2 жыл бұрын
Hello Sam. I would tack on 28 and weld on 24 amps .

Have you ever taken on making a set of fender flares for scratch? There are a few vids out there but something from your point of view would be great.
@Metal_shaper_tom Жыл бұрын
Unless you wan a bespoke set that would be the only reason I would make a set from scratch. There some good sets on the market and there pretty easy to fit
@competencyplus514410 ай бұрын
What was your setting on the R Tech Tom. Amazing videos as always :)

Probably around 23 amps
@Tripmaster20062 жыл бұрын
awesome explanation, but I have one question, may be more of a general concern: what about the thickness of material at the joint...to me, seems like more of a fusion welding here, which from my experience made kind of a "valley" between the joined sections...is this considered ok? I have tried only smaller things, but at last resorted to adding too much material and grinding it of, with a bit of final planishing, just like mig welding, so not sure whats lesser evil here
@Metal_shaper_tom2 жыл бұрын
Fusing the steel is my preferred way. There are no issues involved doing it this way. It joins together nicely and cleans up very easily without taking away any material. If your not that great at tig then I’d stay away from this as it will only cause you trouble.

Awesome work thanks for the video quick question how many amps did you use ?
@Metal_shaper_tom3 жыл бұрын
Thank you, the amps were set to around 20, luckily the original wing was in good condition and to original thickness so didn't cause to much hassle.

@adamlloyd26883 жыл бұрын
Great work, are you mainly fusing it and just adding filler when you need to? Thanks
@Metal_shaper_tom3 жыл бұрын
Hi Adam. Yes that’s correct if you’re gap is tight enough you can do this on lower amps meaning less distortion. Once you add wire your need slightly higher amps and this could mean more distortion and more dressing up to do on the panel . 👨🏭

Why do I have the feeling that modern body shops, even the certified ones, don't even go to this professionalism and attention to detail and are closer to chop/hacks/get er' done quick shops...
