Perfect timing. Just about to replace the targa seal on my 73. Ian's video's always save me from learning the hard way.

Installing that targa top seal looked bloody hard work. Strong thumbs required!

Not really. Just need the right tools, lube and some patience..

Another well done and needed video, Ian. I’ve had the full set of seals for at least a year, and this video gives me the motivation and confidence to git ‘er dun! Thank you!

Again, another great video Ian. This has given me a better visual path for when I install mine in the spring when the weather is warmer here in the PNW. Thank you!

Thanks for the tips! Usually after I fight with these things and great really frustrated, I will scream, "NO WONDER YOU LOST THAT WAR!" Then I ponder "How did they do this at the factory?"

I was able to slide the A pillar parts of the Targa seal into place. It was not the same version as your seal, though, as 914rubber didn't even exist at that time. Lots of glycerine on that effort... I also suggest letting the seal sit out in the sun for a bit to warm up before you install it--that tends to make any of the seals more pliable and easier to work with.

Did you ever think about these cars on the production line? All these seals and the time we take to install...and Otto, Hans und Uve were punching out a hundred or so cars a day or so. Given this video...I think I'll either re-install my Targa seal...or even replace it again...rhanks, Ian... another great video!

I'm sure they had specialized tools to make quick work of everything!

I wondered how they did this so quickly in the factory also!

Nice video Ian. Any suggestions where I might find the fitting of the Targa Top seal that the top of the window butts up to please?

Do you mean the black piece at the top of the triangle window? Try 914rubber.com

Hey Ian, great video as always. You mention "the little end piece" at about the 16:10 mark. I think I need a few of those. Do you know if 914Rubber or someone else sells them?

Yep! I’m pretty sure I bought mine from 914R

Wait... there's a screw there? Who knew? Probably like 99.5% of everything on a 914, it varied by model year. I remember how sore I was after this battle. Someone on the FB 914World group recently claimed that they pushed their A-pillar seal all the way down the channel (after I told them that wasn't a thing). I wonder how sore they were after that.
@IanKarr9 ай бұрын
ha! I can't see how that would be possible, but congrats to them!

@@IanKarr I agree. I tried. Made it like two inches and punted.

Still looking for a vid on the back window.

Here's a quick summary...Clean glass. Clean window frame (and add butyl primer). Apply bead of butyl. Put spacers against the frame at bottom to keep the glass form hitting the metal. Press glass in place.

Waiting for a video on how to fix the washers (Spare wheel pressure, not electric) and the associated valves / washer stalk :(
@IanKarr6 ай бұрын
Thanks, Chris. When you say “fix” the washers, what’s wrong with yours?
@chrisphillips23586 ай бұрын
@@IanKarr The water just dribbles out of the spray nozzels! Ive replaced the 4mm water tubes, the actual spray nozzels that squart the water, plus the line that goes to the spare tire and the water bottle seams to presurize ok. If i leave the system presurized over nght the tire looses a lot of air. I cant even see where the valve unit sits near the stearing column to take a look at that!!
@IanKarr6 ай бұрын
@@chrisphillips2358 Clearly seems to be a pressure loss somewhere. Might be in the steering column switch...
@chrisphillips23586 ай бұрын
@@IanKarr Indeed... Do you know/have any pictures as to where the switch is or what it looks like? Cant find anything on the interweb!
@IanKarr6 ай бұрын
The washer trigger is integrated with the wiper switch. Personally, I think it’s better to install an electric pump rather than topping off the spare tire

Thank you for posting this! I bought a full kit from 914Rubber last summer, and I've been procrastinating getting started on this project. Now I'm ready after watching 👀 this! 😁🫡
