968 was one of my favorite Porsche cars growing up. Funny anecdote. My 992 GT3 Touring vin# ends in 968. 968 launched in 1992. 🤯

I owned two 968s. This presentation made me wish I had another. I actually won the high mileage award at the 968 Celebration in Hershey years ago with over 150k.

Great to see the 968 getting some screen time! Lovely cars and a great blend between 90s Porsche charm and relatively affordable driving pleasure. My recommendation; don't be too obsessed with the CS, go for a cool color coupe instead (especially Japan imports are often slicktops and great specs) and put in some KW classic suspension with some modern tires. The result? Great looks, sheer driving pleasure and more money for maintenance in your pocket.

I own a 1992 968,safari build I did ,it has over 200k Miles, I spent 30k on mechanical and suspension work ,one of the best cars I own ,I bought it for 6500, drives better than some new cars

Finally got a chance to watch this. Great job. 968 are OBD1 here in the States. Agree, some parts are unobtanium now, but the 968 faithful can help source old parts. Hopefully Porsche Classic doesn't ignore the 968 preservers.

Is the timing belt strictly a calendar change or is there a mileage association to it too? Mine was replaced five years ago but I've only driven it about 2K miles in five years and I'm wondering if it should be changed again. This was so great to watch, thank you!

Do you have the part # for the exterior rubber seal you mentioned at 38:15? 944 online or other supplier you would recommend?
@ub271618 ай бұрын
Also is it multiple seals and parts? Thanks in advance

In Europe sometimes a 968 is refered to as a Targa and I know you can remove the roof in that case. But it is not clear to me if there is a difference between a "regular" sunroof and a Targa? Is the sunroof option smaller and non-removable? Or are they both the same just different names used for the same option?

There were actually four 968 Turbo RS cars built: The prototype (red) and 3 production cars (yellow, black & white).
@MrJeff9689 ай бұрын
Hi Bruce, notice my slide says “by vin series”. There were only 3 RS cars built in that VIN series. That 4th development car was actually born a standard North American 968 coupe based on VIN so that is where you will find that car accounted for. Same thing with the Turbo S. The development car was born a standard ROW coupe.

The figures you mention - production and sales etc - is worldwide or sales only in US???

ROW are Rest Of World. North American are USA and Canada. Production for all can be found in the presentation.

What was the difference between the standard 968 and the UK-only 968 S?
@MrJeff9686 ай бұрын
There is a pretty significant difference. The UK Sport was actually based on the stripped down CS.

I owned an extremely nice 968. Wanted one ever since I was a teen and finally bought one. Most boring and uninteresting Porsche I’ve ever owned. Stick with a 944 turbo or 928 if you gotta have a front engined Porsche. They are nice to look at though.
