Fantastic, thanks so much. Saved $300 and learned my mechanic is a bit heavy on his time charges.

They charge by book time, not real time. Look up the job, see how long it should take, that's what they charge. If it's rated for 2 hours and they can do it in one they don't pass that discount on to you.

The video instructs you to turn on the ignition switch then disconnect the battery. Nothing is noted after installation on the procedure to reconnect the battery. Is the ignition switch in the on or off position before reconnecting the battery. What did you do?

Thank you very much, awesome video/tutorial/description/list of tools - just came back from doing this on my 986 that I am driving for 20 years now: Worked like a charm! - Just a note for those who live where metric system applies: 34 ft lb = 46 Nm (correct conv. is 46.1 Nm) for the steering wheel nut torque. Thanks!

Thanks for the tutorial. Took me an hour after watching video. I used a 1/4" open end as a lever to turn the T30's to free up thread lock. Not a lot of clearance behind wheel. Worked well. Saved a bunch o moola. Fun project. Cheap plastic part (turn signal) for high end car! Thanks, best video out there. Nice tunes too.

Thanks for a great video. Although I've rebuilt the top half of an old aircooled 911 some decades ago, I was a little nervous of fiddling about with the electronics of my expensive classic. I followed your instructions and it was really very straightforward. Looking forward to a Bank Holiday drive without holding on the right turn signsl! Thanks.

Great video. Took my indicator unit out, drilled out the small hollow brass rivets and carefully pulled the front plate off. Removed the small pieces that operate the self cancelling which had broken and stopped the indicated staying on. Very fiddly but now indicators work, I just have to cancel them myself. Saved hundreds! Thank you.

Very Good Video Thank you, The only thing I would add is that at Step 14 when you disconnect the two wiring plugs, there is also a small wiring clip to be removed that is attached to the faulty switch unit , the new switch unit comes with this wiring plug attached ready to plug in. Hope this is useful.

Hi great video. My Boxster 986 has a airbag problem. Airbag-Light is on every time I move the steering wheel. The porsche dealer told me that the sensor / contact at the steering wheel has to be replaced. Which part is the contact sensor in your video? Can it be just a connection problem? Do I have to replace that part for 200 €? The porsche dealer told me too often to replace a part for hundreds of euro instead of just replacing a part switch for 2 euro. Thanks for your help

Looking to do mine next week. Just curious, the video states to turn the key to the on position, then disconnect the negative battery cable. After the job is done, do you turn the key to the "off" position before reconnecting the battery cable, or keep it in the "on" position? Also, why leave the key in the "on" position at all? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.
@mikec10967 жыл бұрын
here's anyfeed back.. ok for one i don't think you need to have the key in during the procedure. but it's very important to disconnect the battery before you do anything. it's possible that if you put the key in after disconnecting the battery and waiting 10 min for remaining electricty to discharge that you will be able to turn the wheel for better access to the "air bag" t-30 torx screws. you see those are a bit hard to get to and it makes it easier if you have the key in so you can turn the wheel a bit. Just a guess. another possiblity is that it fully discharges any capacitors by contining to attempt to draw power after the battery is disconnected. what you don't want is residual power in the car blowing the airbag whilst you work on the wheel. i'm about to do this procedure later today. I hope you succeeded.

1. I turn the Ignition on. unplug the battery. Wait at least 10 mins. 2. (Then turn off the Ignition then unplug the air bag? )

DO NOT underestimate the frustration factor when lining up the two set screws which hold the air bag in place.
