Porsche Boxster Trunk Release Cable Replacement

On this Porsche Boxster, the trunk release was about to fail. We replaced it before it became a problem.
On this power model, the motor and cable are as one. So to replace the cable, we need to remove and replace the motor.
To get to the motor, you need to remove many parts! Even the tail.
The old plastic rivets snapped, but we could still do the job and get those parts in later to finish up.
It is a good idea to clean and lube as you go. We use Lanox in many places and on many different jobs around the shop. It is not silicone-based but lanolin-based. And although it does not smell the best, we like how it's lightweight and does not attract dust too badly.

Hello Kurt, many thanks for all the detailed Boxter videos. Hope there is a chance to get engine or gearbox repair videos in the future too. I think this can be interesting for a lot of people. I appreciate the video. I just did this job and I did not have to take anything apart to this level. Take the 2 screws off to expose the latch, pop off the felt trunk trim, remove the cable clip and pop out the cable, since it's just the foam holding it in just wiggle it out, disconnect the wire, now install the wire on the new actuator, wiggle it back in place, pop in the cable, install the clip, replace the felt and cover and done. This takes 15 min start to finish and is the procedure that Porsche uses if you take it to the dealer. I like the idea of cleaning out the drain holes but a bit to much work for replacing the actuator on a cold day.
