Hairdresser Car. Girl Car. Budget Porsche. Poor Man's 911 etc. All total bullshit. The 928 and 944 were labelled similarly in their day. Both are now classics. People appreciate them for what they are not what they aren't. IMHO the Boxster can look cheap and naff without the nice leather interior and a complimentary colour choice (people really do buy gun metal grey ones with black plastic trim!??) but loaded they look class and the performance and handling are unique for the mid engined layout.

We had my Boxster S out two days ago. This was the first time out since August 2013. I was in a terrible bike/car accident. Because of that accident my licence was suspended. I was rearended by a Dodge Ram full size pickup.I expect to be relicenced within a few months. Anyway, what can you do. At least my car insurance is paying for everything. Great car and great review.

Save yourself £25k and buy a second hand boxter. They can be picked up for anywhere from £4k nowdays. Good friend of mine has one and has had it a few months now and it runs perfectly. Not a mark on it and no underlying issues. These cars seem to be unusually cheap when second hand and lets face it, who out of the public onlookers are going to think "second hand" and who are going to think "wow porsche". £30k for a new car smell is bloody expensive.

long story short : Hammond prefers the 911, but never really said why. "It got nothing on the 911". Well, the Boxster S is almost as fast as the 3.4L 996 convertible, has better balance and cost half the price so it's hard to see its point. Besides, in the same time, the Boxster was voted best sports car on Fifth Gear

illuminOz if you ask a loads of blokes where I work the 911 is a proper Porsche and the poxster is something you might buy your missus as it’s a girls car and most of them are owned by middle age men having a midlife crisis that cannot afford to run them correctly the only reason they brought them because it was cheap but as we all know there’s nothing cheap about a cheap Porsche

Thanks for the vid! Probably one of the bigger aspects of owning an "S" is simply the prestige from other Porsche owners. I bought a 2001 base (with the sport package) model as it was quite cheap and was immediately available. However, I do often wonder what an "S" would feel like with regard to power. I'll drive mine for a while and eventually buy a much newer "S" (2009+) in the future. I imagine it will be faster and nicer, but probably won't be significantly more fun than my cheapo Boxster.
@nigo17878 жыл бұрын
+Edslittleworld I see it this way : in the non-S you get the music a little bit longer, which is fine by me
@michaelfromaustin3 жыл бұрын
There's something quite unusual about having something you really like, and wanted to get rid of it for something better. We all do it whether it's a car, bike, house or whatever. If you get the S, will you eventually want to see what the 15ish extra horsepower mean in a subsequent model year? I've noticed that people light up about my car when it's perfectly washed, waxed and wheels are clean ('08RS60). I saw the an old offering booklet for a 986 Boxster in red parked in front of a Porsche dealer from 2004 or whatever. It looked just as good as the new ones do in front of the dealerships today.

@@michaelfromaustin Nice! Cool on the RS!
@griffins56552 жыл бұрын
I'm seven years lake but the S has more horse power better brakes and a better transmission... Not sure if that's prestige as much as it is simply an improvement over the base... Not that the base is bad or anything, because of course it isn't, I just don't think there's any contest about which car is better, where as with some car manufacturers these special additions or higher up models are just base models with special appearance packages and all the options selected with Porsche the give the customer a legitimately better car for not a whole lot more money all things considered, and they still do this even today...

Agree, get it done. People don't complain about the $1500 (about 1000 euros) to get a Honda timing belt done. I realize that is at 100,000 miles but factor it in your buying price and enjoy the Porsche they are otherwise very robust cars.
@daviewavie1128 жыл бұрын
I thought the 987.2 still had the IMS problem up until the 2009 models. Do the later 987's have a IMS bearing that is reliable enough not to get an after market retrofit?
