Very good review, Thomas and your team of autogefühl. I think this Cayenne is the best choice. I live in the city and electric drive is perfect for that. If you need to go outside the city you can use both..! The best of both worlds in a beautiful package. And a Cayenne Coupe? Definitely looking forward to see how it looks.

I usually don't prefer "Piano Black Trim" in cars but I think it actually looks really good in this Cayenne's interior.

You have to close the door if you want the seat and the wheel to move back into driving position :) Cay proud owner since 2007 throughout cay-s and now turbo-s. The car is fantastic in all generations! 👍🏻

I can’t believe you didn’t mention that the electric motor is mated to the auto gear box and you can hear it making gear changes it sounds horrible, it actually makes more noise than a regular electric car, plus when your braking the regen breaking can’t be very good because the gears aren’t providing much resistance

Can i ask one question please? While accelerated from low speed to high speed, the vehicle would switch the electric only mode to hybrid mode, isn’t it? Will it make a big noise and shake during this period?

When you test-drive these plug-in hybrid vehicles, I wish that you would have a camera that zooms in on the instrument panel more tightly (specifically the tachometer and each of the two screens on either side of that) to show more clearly how the electric motor and ICE are operating, together and separately. But great review, as always!

Thomas - came here after watching your review of X5 45e and watched this for comparison. Honestly this Cayenne e-hybrid looks pretty dated, especially interiors compared to the much nicer interior on the X5. Also X5 with the inline 6 B58 seems much more smoother than this Cayenne. What is thought comparing both? You have to provide some references and comparison commentary in such reviews. Boring otherwise.

You say that the e-hybrid now has an sport exhaust option? But i think that isn’t true can Someone confirm one of the statements please..

In Germany coming out in September I did ordered mine with Sport Exhaust. Deliv. January 2020 ... leaving V8 Diesel...a Super Car itself... going to V6

It hasn´t gut a full Sports exhaust System like Panamera unfortunately it has only a Sport Exhaust Optik available. It even hasn´t got the same engine like the Panamera, this one is from Audi. Basically I would prefer the Panamera but as I need the larger trunk I orderered this one.

I am very close to both level 2 AC and full 100 KW DC chargers. I would love to own a full electric as long as EPA range was 500 Kilometers.

Excellent review. The 2019 e-hybrid has been available in Europe since at least May of 2018. When will it be released in the USA and will it be offered as a 2020?

I’m just wondering about one thing and that’s the oil change and it’s grade of the petrol engine. It needs to be very good oil but changed every 5k km. Why? Because as seen in the video, if you are passing from electric to petrol mode, you have cold engine and you are starting heavy on it. So in that case the engine will have a duraton of max 80-100k km. You don’t have possibility to warm the motor before, or yes but than you are not using electric mode. then if you use it in petrol and than pass to electric mode the engine is cooling down and then you are again using it in petrol mode. What a temperature stess for the motor , i hope they are thinking about it. Or not, as for them the car with more then 4 years is for scrap. Thomas do you have any info about this as we already have audi a3 hybrid and golf gte and other in sale as used. So if i you buy a used car you have all possibilites to have motor problems....

I would have thought Porsche has considered your concerns and tested the vehicle systems over many, many kilometres of testing. I had similar worries about Stop/Start systems when they were introduced - I’ve had three cars with stop/start and a total of 200,000 miles+ no issues at all (always enabled).

Thomas, a little bit wrong with Tesla. Tesla sold model S 60 model with usabale 60kWh battery, which in reality was programally limited 75kwh version. That is way they had ability to unlock that extra 15kwh capacity in emergency situation. Other version exept 60 kwh do not have that unlock option.

Yes. But now they discontinued 60 version ~ 1 year ago. They sold them cheaper and for some extra money you could unlock to 75 version. It was very small percentage customers who ordered 60 version.

Still the Car manufactors use old battery teknology,no rolling chargesystem(dynamo)..over 2,5 tonn its a killingmachine in traffic,with extra kilos of battery..

They have the tek to charge the batteries on the run,with or without the fuel..A friend of mine worked at Saab Trollhettan,they invented the fuelsaving filter in the 80s..they got it down to 0,35 pr 10 km..when it was 0,75 pr 10 km then..They never used it before around 2000..now you see diesel/gasoline down at 0,40...so the teknologi is holding back yet and hidden...

No comments on PDCC and if it is worth the relatively high price tag. I think air suspension and rear steering are must and PDCC is an overkill for Cayenne. Thoughts?

Very thorough review Thomas! VW will be bringing the Atlas cross sport PHEV next year. This would be a very interesting option for me. The Cayenne is just way too expensive but at least the design is much improved. As for the new camera angle, it's certainly better than the other side but it completely ruins the side shot. If you move the camera further back and zoom in or punch in electronically later this would solve this problem. (You could also tighten up the side shot a bit to get that POV camera out view.)

That electric motor isn't quiet is it.. there's a strange moaning sound coming from it when the car is in electric only mode

True - I wonder if it has to do with the fact that the electric motor is using the transmission - so it is constantly changing RPM depending on the gear.

It's called e-sound. Basically a speaker box under the hood that's required by certain upcoming regulations.

Hi, one question: you were driving for a quite long time in electric mode, then you hammered the throttle - the combustion engine started, revs to 6000 rpm, obviously with cold oil temperature. Now, was the engine somehow preheated in advance? If not, do you think it is healthy for the engine? Or is there any solution? Many thanks for your answer. Good review, thx!

Your review is the most in depth I've seen so far. It is thorough and well done. Since I am seriously considering purchase, I would have liked to seen more of the on screen controls as well as close ups of the driver's dashboard, especially on the left where the hybrid information is provided. My question is whether use of the on screen controls is distracting from attention to the road. Also, how use of the on screen controls compares to other EVs, such as the Tesla Model X. What I am still uncertain about is whether the combustion engine charges the battery while you drive in combustion mode and whether braking the car also charges the battery (as in the Porsche 918 Spyder) or whether the battery is charged only by plugging in. Especially useful is your analysis at the conclusion of the video about the cost trade-offs, comparisons, and advantages. Also, during the review, you mentioned alternative configurations and clarified the differences between them and your recommendation, as in the brakes, for example. Nice job. Well done. I am now a happy subscriber to your channel and will look at other reviews you have done. P.S. I also enjoyed the scenery.

What a e-hybrid Porsche cayenne... It's super cool. Am I confused or did I miss something out.... does it have two modes or what... electric en combustion (gas) & is it really really safe I mean like in case of an accident especially if you bump into something. Greetings from Namibia Windhoek. Some of this cars are NOT fit for African countries. BUT they are all over NOW including Namibia.

smart phones pretend theyre full too. theyre not really 100%. all cars have that protection too for sure. you can try 90% for your phone. that is closer to the optimum range but of course you get less charge. for those who like to keep their phones a long time.

Thomas, I know Tesla was very sudden for massive corporations, like Porsche, But, we have to understand the shift and new philosophies: It's going to be indefinitely long lasting for sports vehicles to be hybrids. However, pure transport needs, that don't require high speeds for long trips, have to be all electric. We feel that the Cayenne should have an all-electric version, because Porsche can already do auto-engineering to perfection. I will always have Boxster and 911 Cabriolet ICEs, but my other cars will be all-electric. Therefore, Porsche will be losing market share until it adopts such philosophy. If Tesla ever produces affordable SUVs, the Cayenne, and other such vehicles, will lose alot.

Fabulous review. I absolutely love the E-Hybrid Cayenne. I would love to see you do an in depth review of the tech available on the car, like the new Auto Park, InnoDrive and all the wonderful other tech the car can have, along with things like how far does the sunroof open and how far can the car really go on electric power, if you drove "normally", i.e. not flooring it and driving economically. Stupid as it may seem as well, I would love to see real luggage in the boot and not just oh it olds 645ltrs. Otherwise, I love your reviews.

It’s a step in the right direction but I think it would be better to go range extender than PHEV. And people really need to charge them a lot at home to make it work. Or at slower public chargers, but not block the rapid chargers that they can’t use the full speed of anyway. That’s going to continue being a big problem for full EV drivers over the next few years.

I think a full EV version with a about 100 kWh Batterie would be very nice. I am looking for an alternative to the Model X. The EQC is only a compliance car. The e-tron - may be an alternative, but no one has really tested it already.
