Fabulous review! I just bought a 981 GT4 with 7500 miles about one month ago. I agree, this is the best sports car, for the money, that I have ever driven. The manual gearbox is amazing. Nothing can beat a mid-engine Porsche.

"Everyone" is stupid. You should be able to put your wrists on the top of the steering wheel and have a good bend in your arm. If you can't, then you do not have full control of the vehicle.

It appears she is close, but she is very short. This car fits a 6'6" driver. That said, standard position is having the wheel with your wrists reaching over the wheel, making your hand comfortable but not over-gripping the wheel. Her arms are shorter than the average man, as are her legs. I do not think she is as close as you think, merely the appearance of a 5'1" woman (or thereabouts) moving the seat up almost 8"-12" from stock position.

In depth review? I think not. First car I would buy (if I had the cash) if I were back in the UK. I was a Porsche employee for 18 months from 2005 and saw the launch of the 987 Cayman, it became my almost favourite car after the Boxster 987, the 997s were ace to but I only really found my place, my love in the mid engined cars. I miss my Porsche days!

Lucky that GT4 has the 'sports' mode because there was no way Rebecca was going to be heel-toe'ing to rev-match with those boots on... Its a shame when she gets these Porsches to review because she can damn well drive them but we don't get to see any of it. More track footage, or next time wear the race shoes thanks....

Nope the 911 GT3 is still better, even though u can't get the Gt3 in a manual it's still the best Porsche. The GT4 needs better gearing to be epic and the engine is not that special no 9k rpm redline like in the Gt3...

Think I'm getting old - I used to love this sort of car and now I think they are a slightly ludicrous thing to own. In recent years they seem to have reduced a lot of local roads from national speed limit down to 30 or 40 mph making sports cars only good for posing in. Now where did I leave my pipe and slippers?

Great car but in my oppinion the gears are too far 1-2-3 and you go 160 kmh in seconds of course BUT if gears were closer it would crash 911 - that is the reason probably. Only slight minus in my oppinion - I would prefer less then 70-74 kmh on 1st gear... Would be much better to go 55-105-145 but instead it goes roughly 70-130-175... If they put what I suggested 55-110 like gear ratios... IT WOULD do 0-100 in around 3,7 secs theoreticaly.... But that would destroy almost every 911 except for GT3 RS and TURBO probably - so probably that is the reason why they did not. Cayman is absolutely great and GT4 would be a legend in the future...

+GhostriderTom I like your gearing. But I believe too close a gear ratio may not be a good thing either. I have briefly driven a crappy hatch back (a Hyundai, speaks for itself) with gear ratios way too close to one another, so you get to change gear A LOT, and you can actually drive 30mph (

+leiya107 Agreed, but this Porsche gearbox and shifter is so rewarding to work with, that it is a shame you do not have to when it goes that crazy 130 on 2nd gear :-) I would make it max 110 on 2nd. This really is one of the absolutely best shifting I have ever experienced and I have driven even the steel style manuals in Ferrari or R8 manual AUDI or MX-5 or RX-8, or my favourite also HONDA NSX. I would say 55-60 1st and 110-115 2nd would be the optimum one :-).

It's not a 911GT3 price either Rebecca. It was never intended to be the GT3, it was intended to excite buyers at this price point to buy a Porsche over say a Nissan GTR, Camaro, Corvette or others nearing 6 figures in the hopes of getting them on the Porsche wagon. Porsche is only alive because it sells SUVs anymore. The Macan and Cayenne account for nearly 65% of its overall sales. In the sports car world, they have 3 models (911, Cayman and Boxster) with the standard +/- 6 versions of each (standard, S, GTS, cabriolet, GTS turbo, etc). The 911 is dying out because of its overrated price point so the Cayman and Boxster must save it from complete doom. The GT3, brand new, is $200,000 with tax. The GT4, which sounds better than a GT3 by name alone, is about $105,000 used now. This is a rare car in that in its second year it is actually selling for MORE than when it was released. A base+ anything 911 is now nearing $150,000 out the door. For 99% of the population, they would rather drive faster, safer, more comfortable cars with far better interiors and extras. Track driving, lets face it, is NEVER going to happen for even the 75%++ who buy a Porsche sports car.
