Another good comparison Paul. Just as an example of how wild the differences in prices are around the globe, an M2C can be got for around A$ 100k in Australia (60k Euros), whereas the 718 GTS is $200k (60k Euro difference). It's literally in a totally different league out here.

i own both of these cars... they are very different beast.. i track both my cars..... the M2C is a brutal bouncer... it just ragdolls a race track and hammers out laptimes and its VERY fun doing that. lots and lots of fun and exciting as hell and tuned and set up correctly is a VERY fast car around a race track. The Porsche Is a surgeons scalpel. It methodically clinically and easily cuts through a race track clean and no sillyness. Just a silken punch around a race track. Ultimately which is a better track car?? The M2C every day of the week. Which is a better more sorted all rounder? The porsche. If i had to get rid of one which would I get rid of ? the porsche!! The BMW M2C is an instant classic. the old school muscle car. its what makes the car special. In Indonesia the M2C is around 118k euro, the Cayman GTS by the way is around 235k euro lol, not exactly a comparation in term of price. I have 718 Boxster S and test drove the M2C recently. The M2C is more fun to drive, the engine power felt explosive whereas the Porsche 718s is more refined and the power is linear. If I haven’t had one of those I would choose the M2C.

@MichaelJohnson-uo3ef
@MichaelJohnson-uo3ef 3 жыл бұрын
The cars are really two separate beasts. It's like comparing an E36 M3 to an NA Miata, the base cayman has plastic interior and partial leather seats. While most of your money in a cayman goes to where it really matters, a ridiculously complex suspension and aero design a long with a legendary gear box and a tucked away turbo flat four. People talk about the price of a cayman but really forget that a base cayman is what everyone wanted a brz to be but doesn't like the price jump to there. While a BMW M2 is less focused and has better interior and seats with a better infotainment system it really comes down to the person. I love the 718 cayman over a 911 because the 911 forgot how to be analog and got lost in the world of tech but when people see a six figure price tag and see a plain interior they start to complain about the price but lack awareness of what their money purchased them.

Adam Masri first 25 miles this afternoon. Comparison with M2, throttle response much sharper on the GTS and steering much better, I found the M2 stiff around the straight ahead but the Cayman is just perfect. Suspension is also more compliant than the M2 which was quite hard but body control better, the lower weight is clear. For those worried about the gearing I haven’t spun it above 4500yet and won’t for 1k miles but there is a lot of low down pull, even from 2k revs in 6th, not a problem for me. Gear changes were ropey, havent driven a manual for 18 months!

Great review. I think we have to remember that personal bias will outweigh all other factors or whether something is a better deal compared to something else. The BMW guys lean to the M2, the Porsche guys go Cayman. Same in forums and KZbin vids. For years the best bang for buck performance is a Corvette, pick your generation. But for me I would still take 981 Cayman over let’s say C5 or C6. This is coming from a WRX and BRZ owner currently, which are absurdly cheap compared to these cars, but still give tons of smiles and fun. Personal bias always rules, just need to be objective and honest enough with yourself to realize it.
@TunedIntoCars
@TunedIntoCars 4 жыл бұрын
I've heard the the Corvette argument quite a lot recently but it only applies to the US. The Corvette was always around the 100.000€ mark in Europe, so not really cheap either. Other than that, of course there is bias, even car journalists suffer from it. But then again, sports cars are emotional purchases and buyers might not really care which one is the best and will ultimately go for the one they like most

Patrick Bateman well I have an 04 WRX wagon, so I like boxer engines. I did UEL header and tune on the BRZ and it helps. Better tires as well. I love taking this thing for drives, but they have to have lots of turns. When I need torque I take the WRX. It’s a car that you either love or not (few hate it just underwhelmed). I find that a lot on forums and YT. Get a Cayman S. Skip the base, after a BRZ you need more torque. I plan on adding one to my fleet, just need to decide 987.2 or 981. WRX for winter, BRZ for commute, Cayman S weekend toy.

That's what I've read on bimmerpost. 90% of the cars that have this issue have engine tuning and, well, for the rest, the warranty will fix it. I don't plan on more horsepower for the car because I think it's the last thing this car needs :) Exhaust and a proper suspension systems are two upgrades that are must of this car, IMO at least. So we'll see. If I keep this car longer than what the warranty is, I will probably address the crankhub issue. But as of yet, I'm not really concerned about it.

The GTS is faster (in manual spec) than the Cayman S. Only by .1s but nevertheless, faster. And I'm pretty sure the PDK version will also be faster. So I don't know what you mean by 'slow 718'. But to answer your question, I picked the GTS because it is the newer model and that's what I do on this channel. Test the newest cars on the market. Plus, I've already reviewed a Cayman S and that one's also quite good!

@@TunedIntoCars pinch of salt recommended. Remember that Porsche builds some of the best machines out there, and that is still a Porsche. Point was that the 911 is their flag shit, while the Boxter/Cayman get nerfed with the long diff ratio, while the M2 is being regarded as the best M car now available. But would you rather have the low end of Porsche than the halo M car? That is the question..

@rembo183 4 жыл бұрын
The cost factor is critical here because the GTS will end up costing $100k+ after options and tax. The M2C is only $60-65k based on options. So yes $40k more at a minimum. This is Porsche’ most expensive Cayman model. A better choice for the same money as the M2 is the base Cayman with a few options at $65-70k. The handling and driving dynamics are better with the base Cayman but the base Cayman is a little underpowered at 300hp compared to 400 hp of the M2. You should read the recent Car and Driver review which rated and reviewed these 2 cars along with the GT350 and and Supra. The GT350 won the highest rating. All were in the $60-65 price point.

Tuned Into Cars! If you go to the Porsche configurator, and check “technical specs” for the manual and then add the PDK, the 0-60 mph time is 4.3 for the manual, and 3.8 for the PDK. That’s a half second right there, and we all know that Porsche purposely underestimates these numbers...and I think that the gap will be greater, once they start testing the 4.0 w/ PDK.

@@TunedIntoCars well you bought your car brother and you titled the video as if you had the cash in your pocket and chose one over the other. All things being equal I doubt anyone would get an M2 over a Cayman. I'm looking at the M2 because I can't afford a Cayman. Oh and I don't do leases and I don't do finance. I save and buy my stuff always. Anyway cool video but don't fall into that clickbaity KZbin title thing people do. Your content is great mate
@TunedIntoCars
@TunedIntoCars 4 жыл бұрын
I don't get where the clickbait is? When I searched for my car I seriously considered a Cayman. The only reason I didn't go for it is because I needed the extra practicality. Buying a Cayman would mean buying another car that I can use as a daily and that would have meant much bigger costs overall. When I can finance a car at 1.x% interest rate, I'd rather keep the cash in the bank and take out a loan for the car. But that's just me.
@RealOrbit-Australia
@RealOrbit-Australia 4 жыл бұрын
@@TunedIntoCars Ok it still doesn't mean the cars are in the same bracket. There's clearly a price difference. If you can go and finance is pretty much irrelevant. Why couldn't you finance a small runaround if you needed 2 cars at 1.×% then? If money isn't really an issue cause finance gets it out if the way why not get a fleet man? Get a car for the track, one for work, one for family etc. Like the other comments somewhere here that says he takes a certain car for the cinema. The cars aren't priced the same brother for a reason. One is an adaptation of a 2 series with bits and pieces form the M3/M4 the other is a more premium brand sportscar with a mid engined set up. You can't take the price out of the question and say did I make the right choice?

Depends on the country. My car (this M2 Competition) when it was brand new, was about 10k cheaper than the Porsche. And if you finance the cars, BMW has better interest rates and the difference is event lower. Also, you need to take into account that even in this high spec, my M2 Competition is not equipped at the same level as the Cayman
