The cars are really two separate beasts. It's like comparing an E36 M3 to an NA Miata, the base cayman has plastic interior and partial leather seats. While most of your money in a cayman goes to where it really matters, a ridiculously complex suspension and aero design a long with a legendary gear box and a tucked away turbo flat four. People talk about the price of a cayman but really forget that a base cayman is what everyone wanted a brz to be but doesn't like the price jump to there. While a BMW M2 is less focused and has better interior and seats with a better infotainment system it really comes down to the person. I love the 718 cayman over a 911 because the 911 forgot how to be analog and got lost in the world of tech but when people see a six figure price tag and see a plain interior they start to complain about the price but lack awareness of what their money purchased them.

Great review. I think we have to remember that personal bias will outweigh all other factors or whether something is a better deal compared to something else. The BMW guys lean to the M2, the Porsche guys go Cayman. Same in forums and KZbin vids. For years the best bang for buck performance is a Corvette, pick your generation. But for me I would still take 981 Cayman over let’s say C5 or C6. This is coming from a WRX and BRZ owner currently, which are absurdly cheap compared to these cars, but still give tons of smiles and fun. Personal bias always rules, just need to be objective and honest enough with yourself to realize it.
@TunedIntoCars4 жыл бұрын
I've heard the the Corvette argument quite a lot recently but it only applies to the US. The Corvette was always around the 100.000€ mark in Europe, so not really cheap either. Other than that, of course there is bias, even car journalists suffer from it. But then again, sports cars are emotional purchases and buyers might not really care which one is the best and will ultimately go for the one they like most

Patrick Bateman well I have an 04 WRX wagon, so I like boxer engines. I did UEL header and tune on the BRZ and it helps. Better tires as well. I find that a lot on forums and YT. Get a Cayman S. Skip the base, after a BRZ you need more torque. I plan on adding one to my fleet, just need to decide 987.2 or 981. I doubt the PDK can shave half of second from the 0-100km/h time. I think it'll probably be the same as the BMW
@golfbuddy19694 жыл бұрын
Tuned Into Cars! If you go to the Porsche configurator, and check “technical specs” for the manual and then add the PDK, the 0-60 mph time is 4.3 for the manual, and 3.8 for the PDK. That’s a half second right there, and we all know that Porsche purposely underestimates these numbers...and I think that the gap will be greater, once they start testing the 4.0 w/ PDK.

They aren't evenly priced so this video is a bit redundant...maybe the video should have been titled "How Close is the M2 Comp to the Cayman GTS at 30k less?"
@TunedIntoCars4 жыл бұрын
🤷🏻♂️ lease or finance these cars, like 90% of the buyers do, and the difference is quite small. Also, you can't please everyone on KZbin these days. Some people say you can't compare these two cars because they're targeted to different audiences, other folks give me the pricing argument...
@RealOrbit-Australia4 жыл бұрын
@@TunedIntoCars well you bought your car brother and you titled the video as if you had the cash in your pocket and chose one over the other. All things being equal I doubt anyone would get an M2 over a Cayman. I'm looking at the M2 because I can't afford a Cayman. Oh and I don't do leases and I don't do finance. I save and buy my stuff always. Anyway cool video but don't fall into that clickbaity KZbin title thing people do. Your content is great mate
@TunedIntoCars4 жыл бұрын
I don't get where the clickbait is? When I searched for my car I seriously considered a Cayman. The only reason I didn't go for it is because I needed the extra practicality. Buying a Cayman would mean buying another car that I can use as a daily and that would have meant much bigger costs overall. When I can finance a car at 1.x% interest rate, I'd rather keep the cash in the bank and take out a loan for the car. But that's just me.
@RealOrbit-Australia4 жыл бұрын
@@TunedIntoCars Ok it still doesn't mean the cars are in the same bracket. There's clearly a price difference. If you can go and finance is pretty much irrelevant. Why couldn't you finance a small runaround if you needed 2 cars at 1.×% then? If money isn't really an issue cause finance gets it out if the way why not get a fleet man? Get a car for the track, one for work, one for family etc. Like the other comments somewhere here that says he takes a certain car for the cinema. The cars aren't priced the same brother for a reason. One is an adaptation of a 2 series with bits and pieces form the M3/M4 the other is a more premium brand sportscar with a mid engined set up. You can't take the price out of the question and say did I make the right choice?

Porsche dropped the ball on their gear ratios for this car... again. They need a smart cunt like me to work there so l can sort their shit & get it done right. So many issues with all their cars too many to mention. But still they are the best cars in the world.

Depends on the country. My car (this M2 Competition) when it was brand new, was about 10k cheaper than the Porsche. And if you finance the cars, BMW has better interest rates and the difference is event lower. Also, you need to take into account that even in this high spec, my M2 Competition is not equipped at the same level as the Cayman

@@TunedIntoCars there is nothing better than having fun while road trips with the family, porsche is useless car, m2 gives fun and practicality no other car can match . I travel all the year every week at different places wiht my family and I need car with enough cargo space, rear seats are a must, and fun driving factor. So RWD bmw is the perfect solution , nice coupe line big boot plenty of power, amazing steering and body dynamics , it's a racing car for everyday usage. Everything else is needless.

I had a couple of M2s and yes, they are nice tools to carry your family with you on road trips. But that doesn't make the Porsche useless. It just makes it not suitable to your lifestyle
