I have a 2020 M2C and based on my experience, I will say this is a pretty good explanation of the DCT. I previously owned an E46 M3 6MT, which had an autosolutions 30% reduction shifter and CDV delete. In my opinion, BMW manual transmissions don't shift very well. I don't miss the 6MT at all. DCT is much better and more fun to drive in almost every way. First, it's not humanly possible to shift a manual as fast as DCT, so all things being equal, a car equipped with DCT will accellerate faster than a car equipped with a manual. Second, yoiu can drive without taking your hands off the steering wheel. This is a good thing on the M2C because it's a very tail-happy car. If you are accelerating around a corner and you downshift, the car will immediately oversteer, which is a lot of fun. For a car like this I feel a lot safer not having to take a hand off the steering wheel to shift. I drive my car in sport plus mode and in manual almost all the time. It's a great driving experience and I feel involved as much as if I was physically changing the gear using a manual transmission. The thing I really dislike about the DCT is how it goes into park. There is no park position or button on the shifter. The transmission automatically goes into park when you shut the engine off, which you only can do in drive or reverse. You cannot shut the engine off with the transmission in manual. In fact, the only way you can put the car in manual with the engine off is to lift the car on a hoist and manually move a lever on the transmission. I don't know what the engineers were smoking when they came up with this.

For the extra $10k, I’d take the M2. Those carbon seats are amazing, you can get a manual and the wide body kit just looks better. But the M240i IS faster, barely.

Read and hear a lot about people experiencing jerking and kangarooing with DCT. The key thing to remember is that DCT uses actual clutch plates (2 sets). And It is just like a manual gearbox other than the clutch (x2) is operated by computer. Did anybody ever kangaroo a manual car when they were learning to drive - I know I did. And you have to remind yourself why that happened. A manual gearbox kamgaroos because the clutch engages and if it happens too quickly the driver reacts by coming off the gas, and then back on the gas, etc etc, and the next thing you're kangarooing all over the place. Once you've learnt to drive and past your test (in a manual), you never kangaroo a manual again. Same with DCT. Once you learn how to control a DCT, you never kangaroo it again. If you're pulling away fast - commit to the launch and it wont be jerky. If driving around town with lots of start stops, or just pulling slowly off your driveway - just tap the gas and creep will engage. Same with reverse - just tap the gas and then let the car creep backwards on it's own. Once you suss out DCT, you wouldn't want anything else. For me, DCT on my M2C is as smooth around town as it is on spirited drives, and unlike the ZF on my old 240, I also have the option to get the gear changes to occur earlier - meaning my RPM isn't sky high in first gear when ideally I want to be in second quite quickly especially when pulling away rapidly at traffic lights.

The problem with the GT4RS is the lack of proper wishbone front suspension, meaning it can't actually carry the power of the engine when turning in (as the GT3 is able to). And that isn't a cheap fix.
@TunedIntoCars21 күн бұрын
Yeah, heard that in a lot of reviews, from all the superhero journalists. But when I actually drove it on the road, in actual real life situations it's just as spectacular as a GT3. Sure, on a track, when you're chasing laptimes, you'll feel the difference, but 99% of the time, you won't
@jfinks21 күн бұрын
Agreed, not a cheap fix, but what if someone with a KZbin channel and a following spent the time and money to create something that didn’t exist?

For those of you that might never have driven a race car for real, they are both still ROAD cars, there is nothing Motorsport about them in truth. A race car would be horrible to drive on a public road. The GT cars are just sportier road cars, which comes with obvious downsides.

@viacom2000Ай бұрын
I don't understand why people have this ongoing problem with how the M2C exhaust sounds. I have an unmodified M2C and I think it sounds fantastic. The S engine note sounds more grown up than the N engines and B engines (I've owned both). To me, those engines sounded more 'commercial', and I found the pops and bangs on my 240 B58 annoying, and frankly childish. I can see the appeal to a 25 year old lad, but if you're in your 40s and beyond, do you really want to drive through your local town with pops and farts coming out your exhaust? I know I don't. Out of the box, the M2C is an amazing car in just about every way, and I'm absolutely delighted to have one. It is absolutely thrilling! I say leave it in its original glory and enjoy the drive.

it's a matter of preference. Some people like it, some don't. I didn't at first, but after living with mine for a while, I've grown to like it. I've only modified mine because it was too quiet, since in the EU we have these extra filters

I'm interested to know if you regret selling your F87 M2 Competition. I used to have the F Series M240i, but always wanted the M2C. I was so looking forward to the new G series but was utterly disappointed when it came out. When I was in a position to get another BM, the choice was between the F87 Comp, and the new M240, and for me it was a no brainer. After the release of the G Series, the F Series became more desirable than ever - the last M car that was highly regarded as the spiritual successor to the E46 M3 (which I always wanted but never got to own), the last M car with the quintessential twin halos, round dials with needles, and classic BMW good looks. For these reasons alone I believe the M2C will quickly enter classic car territory because we now know those days are gone and won't be coming back. And I hear the next M2 will be a hybrid. The one after that no doubt fully electric. I looked for an M2C for a long time, several times a day and when I found a 1 owner with only 7,500 miles, I couldn't have phoned the dealership faster. It had only come in the day before - the photos hadn't even been taken to upload to the BMW Appoved Used website. I paid the deposit, viewed it 2 days later, and the following weekend I was driving it home. What a feeling. That model made perfect sense to me. Truly last of an era, low milage, beautiful looking and amazing performance. It's my garaged weekend toy and I love nothing better than going out on a lovely dry day on my favourite roads. After a session in that car I feel like I've had mind blowing sex and need a cigarette afterwards lol. And being a weekend toy is perfect - I honestly think it would be bad for my health to experience that performance every day, it really raises the heart rate and takes my breath away. What a car.

I've had my 240 xdrive for 2 years now and love everything about it. Best pure driving car I've ever had. The great thing about it is the engineers made it so it has a rear-wheel-drive feel, with all-wheel drive. Her rear end will come out under hard cornering just like a rear-wheel car does. I've actually seen videos of people drifting them.

The M240i is not an AWD only car as you stated, as I own a 2023 RWD and it is absolutely fantastic. I have had a 2014 BMW M235i RWD for many years and I will say the 2023 is not quite the go-kart handling feel of the 2014 but it has other advantages that make up for it. As far as looks, very subjective. My Brooklyn Gray gets a lot of attention and waves almost every time I have it out. This car looks absolutely amazing coming down the road from the perspective of the oncoming traffic on the other side. A strong and powerful wedge look, like an anvil. I recently got rid of the plain Jane factory exhaust and installed a Quad tip axle back Dinan exhaust. Absolutely incredible sound and look.
