Season opening at last :)
A nice lap chasing a beautiful 991.1 GT3. Nothing too crazy but a good pace and a lot of fun. I could keep up thanks to traffic ^^
This is my first time on the Ring with Michelin Cup2 tires. They have tons of grip, but did not feel good on corner entries (bit too much oversteer). I then checked my pressures after this lap... 2.8 bars in the front and over 3 bars in the rear which is waaaay too high... So my mistake! I should have stopped and checked my pressures before starting this lap.
The Cayman has the same specs as always.
2011 Cayman 987.2 S
Stock engine and exhaust, BMC air filter, KW Clubsport 2Way (Manthey Racing setup), Pagid RSL29 pads, Stock rotors, Michelin Cup 2s.
The car is stripped, Recaro seats, Sabelt harnesses. Weighted at 1280 Kg with empty tank and no driver.
Also: it was my first time on track since I installed a 997 GT3 brake cylinder. This was the best investment on this car :) It transformed the braking feeling and finaly gives the little cayman the strong and reliable brake pedal it needed.

Glad to hear that you like the GT3 master cylinder. I'm installing mine tomorrow. You had much better lines than the 991. Great driving.

No HANS if he's in factory belts! The KWs are very harsh on the streets......I've got a lot of trees miles on mine, mostly to and from tracks. Tset drive one before you pull the trigger.

Great driving there mate! Do you not worry about an accident with no Airbag and no HANS though?
@tobitetdebit2330

Thanks man - good question and very good point here => The safety with my configuration is not perfect. I do not recommend it. You are right, I should be wearing a Hans. The Lack of Airbag does not worry me too much since I am using a harness. But because of the harness my neck is not well protected in case of a frontal crash. I recommend using all possible security features when driving on track

I absolutely love it, my 987.2S manu is waiting for a new clutch and I just can't wait until I exercise the engine again, it's so addictive. Question for you - would you recommend KW suspension for the street? Cheers!
@tobitetdebit2330
@tobitetdebit2330 11 ай бұрын
thanks a lot man! Yes the car is quite addictive :) For the street I think KW V3 is a very good choice, and I think some Bilstein coilovers would also do a great job (maybe a tad cheaper than KW)

How frequently do you go? Would love to meet up with a fellow 987 out there. What pads do you run? I found when switching the race pads thr pedal feel is on another level (I have standard master cylinder)
@tobitetdebit2330
@tobitetdebit2330 Жыл бұрын
Hey! Not often enough... next visit will be 4th weekend of June I think :) Yes better pads really make a difference. I use Pagid RSL29. If you changed your pads for race pads dont forget to also consider a better brake fluid and better brake lines (steel) because better pads will generate way more heat ;)

Oh so you are running the same pads as me AND you thought the master cylinder was worth doing??? Sounds like I will just miss you. I am going last weekend of June/first of July.

@@pintsizedpistons Last season I had: steel lines, RBF600 fluid, RSL29 pads, GT3 brake ducts. The car had zero braking issues but the pedal felt too "soft" and the pedal travel was too long. This season I simply added the GT3 cylinder and man it is so much better. Feels like a real sportscar now. such a shame, only a week apart! Have fun - will you have the 3,4L by then?
@pintsizedpistons

Interesting man! Maybe because the stock feel is so bad I feel like it’s fine with just the pads (RS29 for me too) and heel and toe feels great now. Look forward to the video of your outing in June!

Interesting note about the GT3 brake cylinder. When I jump from my GT3 into my wifes 987.2 brake feel is for sure one thing that is big difference. 987.2 is so soft. So you say that changing the master brake cylinder will improve the brake feel considerable in the 987?
@tobitetdebit2330
@tobitetdebit2330 10 ай бұрын
simple answer: absolutely :) The part is not very expensive and it is not too much work. You don't obtain the exact same rock solid feel you have in a GT car, but it gets considerably better.

The Facelift engine should have no bore scoring because it's a closed deck block. But you're right: who knows ^^ Track use is tough on engines so let's hope I give it enough care and love so it wont let me down :)

@@tobitetdebit2330supposedly the 987.2 S is still susceptible because of the stock forged piston + Alusil cylinder liner combo. The 2.9L 987.2 engine doesn’t have the problem. The fix is the normal transition to better pistons (with more clearance) and Nikasil sleeves. I doubt it’s as big of an issue as with the 987.1 S but it’s something that still worries me the more I read. I take ownership of a 987.2 S on Saturday. Good thing is it’s all fixable… for a price

Such long gearing, needs a shorter final drive. Also why do all that work and do no engine modifications??
@tobitetdebit2330
@tobitetdebit2330 Ай бұрын
Hey - yes the gearing can seem a bit long. But it does fit the car well and allows a very high top speed so I think it works pretty good. Engine mods are not that simple when you do track driving => most of the time it will cost you reliability and can take away the confidence you have in your car IMO. Investing in weight, suspension and driving skills is the way to go :)
