Drove a Ford Courier to a Toyota dealership with two sons on a hot day. The path over to the pickups went right in front of the big picture window of show room. We got out, I got under a pickup, sons were jumping up and down in the truck beds, and not one salesperson came out to check on us. We checked out the trucks, and left. Bought a new one at another dealership a few months later.

Ran that truck hard all day long, beat the piss out of it...sold it for $1200...6 years later, he still drives it daily doing scrapping with 404k miles on it. Oil changed every 10-12k, ratchet strap holding bumper and bed together...purrs like a new truck!

Westen, Great story! Never underestimate the power of "C"! I've got surface mounted lighting track in my kitchen for spotlights. It comes in sections that clip together. This is an old house and the ceilings are uneven. None of the lights at the end of the track would work until I installed a c clamp on the last joint. Well that was 2000 and the clamp is still there and everything is still working! The power of C brother!!! Regards Stephen.

It was (and always is) how you and your "production team" do the videos, the improv, making us all laugh in the end (well, except for a few Porsche enthusiasts!...)...as for me, I DO enjoy the learning aspect of your videos, as well as the knowledge you and your production team pour upon us less fortunate souls. There is a special C-Clamp made just for this purpose, and I've got one holding my exhaust manifold to the catalytic converter flange right now.(2010 Equinox 2.4L) Amazon sells the American-made version and O'Reilly's sells the Chinese-made version. My American-made one did not come with all the parts it was supposed to, so I had to get a second one from O'Reilly's, and I can tell you that the Chinese one was much better made and had all the necessary parts. My local NAPA regional distributor not only didn't sell these devices, they had never heard of them and were mystified that such devices might ever be needed or even exist. These clamps come in different sizes and are more compact than some of the regular C-Clamps, which is helpful in cramped spaces. On Amazon, the name of the device is - "Nickson 17351 Clamp-A-Stud." The same company also makes clamps that work to attach exhaust manifolds to V-8, V-6 and In-line 6 heads where you have broken off a stud or can't easily replace a missing one - very ingenuous devices, but slightly more expensive than the $5 Harbor Freight/Porsche-certified clamps. P.S. Porsche odometers only go to 99,999 miles. You know why - no one's ever gone further than that in one, so there's no customer demand.

You're absolutely correct about Porsche owners and dealers. They haven't changed in 45 years. One of my co workers was a Porsche owner with all the usual quirks. We thought it was great fun to spray a little motorcycle chain lube on the bottom of the engine and on the ground and tell him "Hey Ronnie. I think your car is leaking oil again." He'd leave work for an emergency trip to the Porsche dealer, they'd clean it up, find no leaks and send him home until a couple weeks later it would happen again.

On a regular basis he sees trucks/full size SUVs with 300,00 or more miles on them. At least once a month he sees a few with over 500k and these are all gas trucks. Bought a 99 Boxster new in Nov 98. Still have it. 101k so far and counting. Never had to replace anything out of my own pocket until 96,000 miles in 2015. I will take my chances with Porsche any day. Second best car I owned was a Toyota Celica in the 80s. Third best was an Acura. But, master cylinder failed at 37,000 miles. Then again at 74,000 miles (yep exactly double - talk about a timer) but then drove it to 125K without incident. No one that I know who owns a Porsche complains about reliability. You could interchange Porsche with BMW in this story with the same result. Great stuff! Loved the story and laughed by butt off!

You know what you should do, buy the cheapest Porsche you can find, transplant the engine with a turbo diesel, and next time you tow that Porsche back to be fixed, show them what a Porsche should be !!!!

Westin is a great story teller. I had a 911 and it was the biggest money pit in my life. The funny thing is that my 1977 Datsun 280Z was a lot more fun to drive.

I had a similar experience with my range rover. I'm a pretty tech savy guy and know how to do quite a bit on cars, my range rover was throwing conflicting codes at the dealer that didn't make sense. They wanted to charge $15,000 to fix....i had a gut feeling to check the fuze box and sure enough about half the fuses were in the wrong spot, $6 later and a fuse kit from pep boys and all my codes disappeared

The left side of my 04 Silverado y pipe snapped seamlessly up by the manifold. Literally have had 4 u-bolts with a little bond-o on the nuts so they don't vibrate off holding that thing in place for the last 2 years. It purrs. Love it!
