even without video your many pictures tells the story looks like a lot of work a lot of rust even the rockers even after having it together you have to deal with a wreck that almost took your life. The restoration of this car is a massive accomplishment. I have a 1971 Targa T that is in gray primer right now. It will require a lot of work as well. I did have to replace the front pan over where the batteries were but that and replacing the gas tank was about the extent of the rust I had to deal with. The interior will need a lot of work. I bought this car in 1989 and paid 4,500 for it. Now that there are people on You Tube restoring these old marvels I believe there is a community to draw for in order to help me as problems arise. Thank you for your channel

Heard you on Smoking Tire podcast, I’ve pieced together a throw away split window Bus into a hybrid camper back before the “Bu$ boom”. Love the project and Brother you show genuine humility , and how Mom and Dad are with you is Brilliant.

Just discovered this channel while looking for other people who've done DIY restorations on a Porsche. Wife loves them and I've recently been bitten by the bug when we rented a 911 in Vegas so I kinda want to do one for the next project car. Subscribed!

I read the title and misunderstood thinking you had"given up" on the restoration, Fantastic to see that not only had you carried on but completed it (as to date) to a very high standard, Great project and great work so far, Please keep the installments coming,

Pretty neat how you included your parents into the car, I have a car that both parents and deceased father in law all drove at one point or another. It has some great sentimental valve, and it’s just been sitting in my garage for 18 years now,

Cool story. I used to live in Boulder and know how tight some of those mountain roads are. I'm glad you were okay, and that you brought your car back to life.

What an adventure! I'm pretty sure you must have smelt fear when the Porsche left the road! Very lucky escape! And as for the "special mix" primer best my good lady doesn't see this it will give her idea's! (I'm currently restoring a '69 TR6 and have a '66 e-type to follow). Your graphically honest with the welding and yes, there is scope for major improvement . You have the enthusiasm, and capability to master all aspects. Have you considered going to welding classes to master the task. Of course you may have already done so. I restored a 911 T back in 1984. It at least matched yours for rust and the only parts supplied were the battery boxes. The rest l had to fabricate myself. Porsches were awful before they started galvanizing them ( from about 1978). I restored a number of Porsches the rarest being a heavily damaged (and very badly repaired) 912. Look forward to your future instalments.

Next time you weld flares gas torch is the only way to go, like factory, welds are far less brittle than mig. The biggest point being it is easier to control warpage and thus a flat panel that needs very little filler for final bodywork.

Great and also moving story. That U-pol Reface takes me back 25 years ago when I started restoring my first car, an only TVR 350i, can’t believe you rolled it on 😂 that stuff needs a minimum 3.0mm fluid tip on a spray gun it’s that thick 👍

doesnt the chasssis rigidity get compromised when parts of it have rust and you have to cut them and weld the cut part ? Like welding the removed part.
@vintageexcellence5 жыл бұрын
It’s as strong as original if you are a great welder, if the work is bad then no it’s not strong
