the Macan isn’t competing with the Evoque , it competes surely with the Velar. Also, the only decision to make to choose the SQ5 diesel is how much money you have to spend

if you dont care about power and handling (like many SUV owners) and just want a nice car to get from point A to point B, go for the Q5 and save your money. For enthusiasts however, the Macan S is in a totally different league.

If both have the same engine, and theres a considerable price difference I'd go for Q5. If the Macan 3.0l turbo is considered, then I'll choose Macan over SQ5

I've been viewing these WHAT CAR videos over the (recent) years and this is the first time seeing Mr. Moss. He's excellent. Good video, all info clearly put forth. However I've considered the Macan a pointless, niche, profit-padder for Porsche, this model has also become a bit of a guilty pleasure, admiring them from afar, have I. The Macan has quickly become Porsche's best-selling vehicle and will likely become it's historic sales leader. If that funds Porsche's sports car development, more power to Porsche - fair play, meine Freunde.

Sean Coleman. If you have driven both and including the Ford transit like jerky Velar you will know the Macan is awesome. I always had porsche sports cars then went with a new Porsche Macan S Diesel Turbo. Outstanding. I just can't say enough good things about it. Put it this way I told the dealer to put me on waiting list for all new Macan in 2020. Not a facelift but all new ground up Macan in 2020. I'm bored with 911, Cayman GTS and boxster now esp the quiet new ones. The Macan is exceptional.

bullshit. chassis of the Macon is based on the q5 and the base model 2 liter tfsi engine is the vw/audi engine. everything else is different.

Yes your correct...it doesn't have the sophisticated 4x4 system off the 911 which defaults to an 80/20 rear biased split giving it a completely different driving feel to the Q5. It also doesn't have an aluminum bonnet, different wheel widths front to rear or anything else which accounts for 70% of it being not Audi/VW but Porsche. As a Macan S owner I'm so glad you cleared that up for me!! 😯 😂

Samjai Sam Your correct that Wood is not an option (thank God)..you get piano black trim as standard with aluminium or carbon as an option. Very few Macan's are ordered with the basic seats...if you order the 12 way comfort or 18 way sports seats they are leather faced...I have the 18 ways and they are the best seats I've ever sat in..7 hour journey...no problem! There are also 2 other leather trim levels..and bespoke stuff availible if your wallet is deep enough. Take one for a test drive and prepare to have your preconceptions blown away.

Lol my Chap...I am sure this fella earns a fair salary as a motor journalist...but it’s probably not that great only £40-60k they always tend to drive press cars..so I think your a little confused with the appearance of income.I think your probably confusing me with yourself, .but try and not comment on something that you can not quantify...I am 55, have owned my own three companies with my two brothers that we stated in 1990/92 and sold 60% of our specialist dredging/flotation/pipe support busily this year to an equity firm to fund growth in South America...I am extremely fortunate in life...on the basis of the harder you work the more successful you are...but hey ho maybe your correct and this chap is an amalgamation of Jeremy Clarkson and yourself ....I should not have been disrespectful in my comments that is true and being rotund is not bad in itself or effectively stops him being a charismatic corespondent....but your comment seems more about yourself than me...if you think his profession is well paid or aspirational ...then I guess your income is sadly preventing you owning a Macan or leading the lifestyle you so obviously admire, maybe set your own personal goals a tad higher
