Why would a mechanic not complete a job on this 2018 Porsche Macan GTS? Why would they just say 'screw it' and leave the repair incomplete? The CAR WIZARD 🧙‍♂️ shows exactly what he found and how it was an insanely cheap fix.

Sorry Mrs. Wizard, the center clock is a traditional Porsche design item. In the Macan, it shows it got the Sports Chrono package, the same as the sports cars. In the Cayenne, it is a stand alone design. Not sure when Maserati started the center console clock design. [edit: correction - thanks to 97c2s993, I now realize that the Macan, like the Cayenne, has the SC hump even without the SC package]

This car doesn't have Sports Chrono, otherwise the clock would have a digital readout and a second hand on the main face (and not minute and hour hands). It also doesn't have a Sport+ button that comes with Sports Chrono (and launch control). All Macans have Sport button though whether with Sports Chrono or not.

Those buttons are great convenience. Once you learn them (2 weeks) you don’t have to look down or up at some touchscreen controls. A friend with a new Panamera 1 year later has to look down at the touch controls because there is no way to feel for the buttons you want to press. So that sentiment is that the buttons are a good thing.

It only took a few days to be comfortable with them and I can honestly say it's my preference over having everything buried in a touch screen interface. How refreshing! A mechanic that doesn't want to replace everything! I took my wife's 2010 Accord Coupe to the dealer to get the front wheel bearing replaced and they "found" $5,000 in additional repairs including AC Compressor: Fine, Power Steering Pump: Fine, multiple Front Suspension Components: Fine and they were reluctant to rotate the tires because they said the tread was dangerously low: Nonsense! All items were fine. Never going back there again!

I have a 2018 Macan GTS, same colors, same wheels, defiantly don't have that loud clanking coming from the HP pumps. We have no problem with the size of the interior, it's only me or my wife or both in the car at any one time. So far it has been reliable and performs exceptionally well, my main point of concern for the GTS is the air suspension developing a problem but so far no issues.

Another scenario you didn’t mention, and I know you’ve dealt with customers that don’t listen. With all things Covid, when the repairing shop went to get parts the sensors they may have been unavailable. We’ve run into that with Mercedes, lots of B/O parts. So maybe they changed the pads and told the customer about the sensor and they either didn’t listen or remember what they were told. It’s not going to prevent safe operation of the vehicle. I would say if they had just said screw it, they wouldn’t have bothered taping the connectors up, you would’ve found them just dangling. There’s more to the story we just don’t know what it is.

If one has a Macan, see in the "Porsche Good to know" app the section "Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) with Air Suspension and Level Control" (or in the manual).

@@carsinthewild7883 I agree and that "noise" was recorded with an open bonnet. It was the same with the old Mercedes 200 diesels: stand beside them with the bonnet closed and they would tick along quite nicely with that typical diesel sound. Raise the bonnet and you'd think you'd just entered a boiler room: an incredible clacking and rattling noise. Some engine designs/fuel injection techniques make a very distinctive sound that some would describe as "noise" or "rattle."

I also cut and tape off my brake wear sensors as well because I plan to track my car and I check my pads visually often. So need to pay for sensors that I don't need and it makes my brake jobs quicker/easier. Would it have been a nightmare to start it with the serpentine removed to check if that is tensioner bearing noise? Lots of signs of a flood event...dash bonkers, sensors were damaged, erratic and simply deleted, and the noise is not steady, and if the belt pops, it is catastrophy or just a shutdown after battery discharges fully.

Some high performance brake pads do not have sensors. To keep the car from knowing this, the old sensor plugs are cut off, their wires shorted together, and the whole wad gets stashed in a safe area. The electrical tape is a shoddy short term solution but otherwise it's the stuff we did to Audi's before track days all the time. All those circuits need to be happy is continuity.

That's very crazy about the wear sensors, I would gamble and say the brake light was on, they took it to a mechanic that just figured they could do it and obviously never worked on Porsche before lol. The reason the Macan looks good is because there are no dropping design lines anywhere. Lines must be straight or going upwards but never down.
