Dave, the reason why they place DC Fast Chargers in hotels is because of the excess power available. Hotels have to request enough power capacity to account for 100% occupancy and all their customers all using hair dryers at once. Of course, that nevers happens, so they have excess power they're not using.

@junehanzawa516512 күн бұрын
@outofspecdave1554 Yep. The same goes for malls (even strip malls), which have to request over capacity for all types of different stores that might come there with different power needs. The same with big box stores like Walmart and Target, which have to account for their stores with all their lights on, their AC at full blast, all their refrigeration for their frozen foods at full power, and account for all sorts of power spikes, etc., all have several megawatts of excess power they never use. DC Fast Charging is not what's needed there, but Tesla, then EA, figured out early on that those were the easiest and fastest locations to get permitted since utilities were very eager to sell that excess power that was never being used in those locations. That's why you also see large convenience stores with gas and food, which also have excess power they never use, quickly becoming another of the favorite locations for DC Fast Chargers.

The heated steering wheel button at the bottom/back of the steering wheel is standard on all Porches to my knowledge. It is certainly that way in my Taycan. At 17:20 Dave talks about the passenger screen, allowing videos to be played and blocked from the driver, which is a true statement, but that is done only when the car is in motion and a video is playing. When parked the driver can view the screen. They use a liquid crystal alignment to block the angled viewing. At 1:06:30 to complain about naming their fast charging turbo charging seems odd when you seem to have no issues with Tesla naming theirs superchargers when I thought that had a definite, mechanical meaning as well.

Dave - Regen and 1 Pedal driving. I have an 8 month old 2024 Mini Countryman S E with a 64kWh usable battery and BMW has a nice way to give you optional 1 pedal or coasting or 3 stages of regen or adaptive regen (auto variable regen depending on what type of road you are on - motorway, dual carriageway, normal roads or city driving). To get one ideal/ max regen you set the gear selector to B mode, if you leave the car in D then in the settings you can have 5 options of regen - off, little, medium, heavy (same as in 1 pedal B Mode ) or adaptive. So if you like creep ir coasting with minimal regen/recuperation you can or you can go full on one pedal - one disadvantage of using B/ 1 pedal mode is that when regen is on then the brake lights come on too, in the no or lighter regen settings in D mode you don’t show the brake lights if you ease off the accelerator pedal.

If the Macan is anything like my Audi Etron, using the brake pedal creates regen (or the two steering wheel paddles if you choose to use them) and the regen is seen on the drivers display. Only under hard/emergency braking do the friction brakes come into play, otherwise using the brake pedal gives you infinite variable control of regen. Having driven one pedal cars, mostly Teslas, I prefer the Audi way. Not every EV should be a remodel of a Tesla.

I remember that Kyle said that once the new tires break in (I guess he said 1500 miles) you will get a better efficiency. David, why Porsche would really need so many complications with one pedal driving? The most elegant solution is implemented in our Chevrolet Bolt EUV: a button close to drive and reverse buttons. If button is on the full stop one pedal driving works with keeping the car stopped if the accelerator pedal is not touched. On the contrary when the button is off the car drives like an ICE car. Why would anyone play with various degrees of regeneration? I find one pedal driving useful in town but really annoying on highways. I understand that in Tesla there is no way to disengage one pedal driving? That would be an absolute no go to me.

I'm about halfway through and I recognise where you are at charging in Omaha. Definitely off the highway But I don't recall an EA being there when we visited soon two years ago. (Great city if you have young kids. Their downtown is full of great play parks, walk over to Iowa and play too) We've driven the Turbo but my wife's biggest complaints are: Off throttle regen is nonexistent even with re-gen on, and the throttle mapping even in sport plus is not aggressive enough. She doesn't like she has to push her foot down way too much before the car takes off. (We have just one car and she is the one driving it on a day to day basis) Being past the excitement from driving a new car I am starting to feel we might pass on this one. We live in the UK and I'll be off to the dealer tomorrow with a measuring tape to have a look at the boot. I'm starting to worry the Porsche packaging is sadly not good enough. We own our XC60 PHEV (but drive more BEVs as rental on our travels) so are not in a rush to change, but we want more space on the inside, but not more space on the outside in the city....

@@scottstowell7 In addition, I've become practically addicted to FSD, so I wouldn't buy a car that would not support that.

Dump and Jump instead Splash and Dash. Splash and Dash was great for ICE vehicles because of the double entendre of the two things you need to do, refuel and use the bathroom. Dump and Jump maintains the same double entendre. You can dump some watts in battery and jump back in the car, and well...think you get the bathroom reference.
