Worked like a charm! Saved me a ton of time and money. Other videos said you would be "breaking the seal" if you take off the actuator. That is total BS. There is an O-ring on the hosing. No braking involved. Didn't mess up the computer or anything. Parking brake worked perfectly when I put it back together.

Just posting here for other folks doing this job - instead of needing a clamp or specialized tool to fully compress the piston, you can just use a screwdriver or small pry bar. After removing the caliper bolts, but before removing the caliper, just insert it into the window on the caliper, against the backside of the outboard pad, and use leverage to pull the caliper towards you. Doesn't take much force, and you'll feel it when the piston bottoms out.

Great video! I did my rear brakes today, everything went okay until I tried to remove the lower bolt of the bracket. I could not remove it. The good news is you do not need to remove the bracket to remove the rotors.
@JasonNotSleepy4 жыл бұрын
yes, that step is unnecessary, it's very difficult to remove and torque back to spec. You don't need to uninstall the bracket at all to either change the pad or replace the rotor, basically these brackets never needs to come off.
@joedpl2 жыл бұрын
@@JasonNotSleepy I did the rear brake job yesterday and I watched this video prior to doing so. When I first read your comment I thought you were trolling but I can now confirm your statement that you do not need to remove that bracket to replace the pads and rotor for anyone else reading this.

Thank you for the video and I hope you're still checking on the channel for comments. At the end you mentioned O-ring safe lubricant but I didn't see where you applied that. Am I safe to assume it is on the actuator cover since it needs a watertight seal? When the rear brake service came up at 35K miles I wasn't sure I wanted to tackle it because of the need for a scanner to put the e-brake in service mode but your explanation on how to accomplish that without the scanner was perfect. Next time the brakes are due I will be more than ready to do it myself.

@@DriftKr6l OK first of all? THANK YOU FOR THIS VIDEO!!. I bought a bidirectional scanner tool to do it but thought the mechanical version you proposed would be easier & it was. Paid a shoppe I know & trust over $300 to do my wife’s rear brakes a year or so ago & they couldn’t reset the parking brake fault so I had to take it to the dealer & pay another $165 for them to do it. In my 60’s? I just got done doing my wife’s 2017 Porsche Macan turbo. I did not have to take off the brake pad holding carrier plate on the rear: I simply leveraged the brake pads out & put everything else back in. I also uninstalled the parking brake actuator solenoid & did the T45 in the back clockwise to collapse the ratcheted mechanism. Then? I simply used a big screwdriver old-school style to collapse the caliper pistons before taking the brake pads out. Oh & that Porsche backing plate on the front of the caliper? just pops out. The back of the parking brake once you take the actuator solenoid off? It’s not a T40 by the way (it’s a T45).

Great video! I’m about to do this on my brother’s 2016 Macan GTS. Curious about a few things....BEFORE you put the emergency brake actuator back onto the brake caliper, did you spin that middle adjuster back out counter clockwise? Also, where did you find torque specs for the caliper bolts and caliper bracket bolts? Finally, what size was that socket you used to spin the e-brake back? Thanks for the time!
@DriftKr6l5 жыл бұрын
Torque specs can be found online, or just find a downloadable service manual for the Macan, they are out there. After spinning back the ebrake in the caliper, you just put back the actuator, you dont spin the actuator. I think i mentioned the size of the socket that is used to spin the ebrake in the video.
