I'm glad to hear that they're putting in electrochromic glass, because we in America can't seem to get the Turismo without a glass roof (unlike European buyers)... It sounds from you (at 8:00) like this will be an option; I wonder what the cost will be in lower versions (4, 4S) of the Cross Turismo, and when it will be available (it's not yet listed as optional or standard on the GTS on the US version of the Porsche configurator online, as of 2021 Dec. 6). Evidently soon because your press car has it already...

GTS Sport Turismo is just perfect ! Hell, I will call it a replacement for Tesla Model S. To hell with range and SC network advantage - Sport Turismo can carry 4 tall persons (190 cm +/-) without any issues with room for head, and on top of that, with foot garages in the back, people don't sit half-squating like in Model S. And from what I saw, the recent refresh of Model S still did not solve the seating position for passengers in the back. I will say that Sport Turismo is, at least here in Europe, just better option.

I'd say the Model S Plaid, when available. Cause it's less expensive than the GTS, has more luggage space, better performance, more bhp, and better charging infrastructure. I know it it's now the same as Porsche regarding quality, heritage and reputation but it's the better bang for the buck. But in conclusion their are two different cars with two different audiences and demands

@@alpher3512 well, Model S is dead for me because of yoke. I was a long-time supporter of Tesla, because Model S is a flagship sedan. After they introduced yoke - without fundamentally required changes to steering system to accomodate it - that is no longer the case.

headroom in the back of the sport/cross turismo is better than in the sedan but still not sufficient for above 185cm people because the side curves in quite a bit towards the rear.

It's not Alcantara. Is called Dinamica (even if Porsche calls it Race Tex, don't know why), a microfiber made from recycled plastics. It's the same one the you can find in all Mercedes cars.

@@matejicek77 true! As for few other things, the brand Alcantara is often used as a generic name for all suedelike microfiber fabric, even it’s made by another brand. Alcantara was the only maker for a long time (from the 70’s), while Miko started to produce the Dinamica in 1997. Porsche used the genuine Alcantara for many years. Anyway, the touch and look is so close that you would hardly make the difference 😉

Well from a creative sound engineering standpoint, the sound design is amazing and some great minds must have worked behind this! But on the other hand, I personally would prefer to reap the benefits of an electric platform and having a silent experience. Life is noisy enough and I think premium and luxury car manufactures will move in the next decade to that direction and advertise the in-car experience as a retreat/relaxing space.

In other Taycan models the sport sound only comes on in "sport" or "sport+" modes and the car is silent in "normal" or "range" modes. I presume GTS is the same.

You could always turn off the sport electric sound for a more silent experience. It's not mandatory for any of the drive modes.

Great review. However now really struggling with my decision. Have a Turbo S on order, was seriously considering changing to GTS as one of the big pluses to the GTS is the increased range. Your the first to inform me that all models will see increased range so back to Turbo S.... or GTS. But how much firmer is the suspension for every day driving. Then in your comments on the 4S you say you would choose the 4S over the Turbo S ...... my brain hurts.

Price performance wise base taycan with biggest battery makes most sense. If u want more Performance, 4S is just fine. Just get the leather free interior!

Great review, Danke vielmals. The switcheable roof is all very nice but I'd prefer a traditional opening pano roof or none at all. Not impressed with electric sounds. It's an EV, enjoy the silence. Not interested in fake sounds at all. Would be interested in an GTS RS package with more power (pay to unlock the powertrain) as I love the GTS trim and concept but would want better performance (my basic Model S100D is faster to 60....). Proper regen on the GTS to give one pedal driving in range mode st least, would be good too.

@@7ludi Perhaps because an open roof decreases the range even further. But what about a Taycan with a huge slidable glas roof - which has been done in an earlier Taycan version. That would be an awesome model.

@@thomasjanssen9124 The convertible was cut for cost reasons along with other projects like Panamera Coupe at the start of the Covid pandamic. Also development time would be very short to get it ready for the Taycan facelift. Unfortunately a sliding sunroof like in the Panamera won't happen with this generation of Taycan. They focused their attention on the switchable (fixed) glass roof that now premiered in the GTS

If GTS is so close to Turbo models in that it offers majority of the equipments as standard as opposed to optional in Turbo models, why would anybody pay a hefty premium and consider Turbo (S) models over GTS?

You see, People can easily get a much practical and equally luxury cars from Audi, Mercedes, BMW, Jaguar etc at the asking price of a Porsche that is just half the car. But only those exclusive ones step into Porsche who want to make a statement. Porsche are still exclusive on the street as compared to its Germans trios. I have to agree with you.

Ich persönlich möchte Leder oder Alcantara im Wagen haben. Und werde nicht von der Lederindustrie bezahlt. Zumal man dann seinen Wagen auch wieder besser verkaufen kann. Die meisten Leute möchten hochwertige Materialien haben und dazu zählt halt nicht Stoff.

However even if meat would be the reason no.1 in other cases, the hide remains one of the most profitable body parts. That means: If manufacturers put animal leather in a car and you accept it as a customer, you give your money to an industry that earns money by oppressing humans, animals and destroys the environment, you make them more profitable. Also, if you turn the argument around "meat is the waste of the leather industry" you realize how biased the argument is. After all, would you care for which body part you would murdered? Or imagine someone robs you on the street and beats you to death - would it matter to you if it was for your Smartphone or for your purse? The animal agriculture industry occupies 2/3 of all farm land on this planet which cannot be used for direct human nutrition then. That is extremely inefficient. The no.1 cause for deforestation is the animal industry. It is also one of the biggest contributor to climate change. The amount of land, resources, energy and water being used is beyond imagination. If you are interested in how the animals are being treated and transported in the global leather industry, watch this footage: kzbin.info/www/bejne/qpzNdHSjppaSbqc Note that the footage is genuine and was recorded by a highly decorated investigative journalist in Germany I know myself personally. For the alternative, you can either use artificial fabrics which can be made from recyclables (we have already shown a lot of vehicles that use great fabric seats from PET-bottles etc.) or more and more also from plant-based materials (like Pinatex). And even if you would create a seat completely with petroleum without a recycling share, the amount of oil being used for that is nothing in comparing just to once fueling up your car. In practical reasons, fabric or microfibre seats are just more useful. You do not sweat in summer and it is not cold in winter. We cannot change what we have bought in the past (that also counts for ourselves of course!), but with more information and compassion we can change how we decide in the future.

Omg are you kidding me? Why on earth would I buy an electric Porsche when their whole advantage has been the 75 years plus in perfecting petrol and diesel engines??!! Look at the EV cars Hyundai in particular are coming out with. In 3 years time Porsche, Ferrari and Lamborghini will be bankrupt. Korean and Chinese EV cars at a 10th of the price will outperform these overpriced brands. You just don't see it yet.
