Thanks! oh I remember in May 2020 I went up and stayed in Port Douglas for a month, and it felt like there was 50 people in the entire town. Cairns is picking up again, but its more domestic tourism than international at the moment. the Cairns party backpacker scene has not quite bounced back yet, nor do we have the chinese tourism that we use too.

Thanks I'm looking to visit in October with my mum for her retirement present we both love FNQ and have travelled there many times over the last 20 years. Im worried as I've been told by a few people that Cairns after covid is unrecognisable and a ghost town with so many empty shops and for lease signs everywhere, it was always so colourful vibrant happy and full of personality I just don't want to take my mum and we will be sad for the old Cairns we remember.

I stupidly swam in the sea just under a jetty for 20 minutes.... I swear I was so seduced and saw no one in the sea. Saw no signs until after I got out and a guy told me how stupid it was to go in. Soon as he bollocked meI instantly started to see all the signs, I think I was in a trance to be honest and just thought I was in Blackpool pleasure Beach, instead of dangerous Australian crocodile territory. 😳🥴

Which Jetty?? In port douglas???? If it was near the marina, you were very lucky. but the beach is safe to swim in on the other side, not many crocs there..
