Looks like surface area may be the key. More diameter. You can get a lot of copper cheap by using water conduit meant for the refrigerator. Or even thicker piping at 6 sides of 8.125' each may get you 80 meters. I'll try to make a KZbin video whether it's a success or not. It will be fun messing with this!

Hi, recently I bought this one and I wonder if I can make only one loop with 20 feet to make contacts from 40m to 10m, or ONLY with these 20 feet, I can tune for 40-30m... or if exists another way to solve my need to get a multiband antenna for those bands, what is the correct size? instead of wire I've made a aluminum loop out of 1/4 inch tubing pinched and drilled at the end to fit on the lugs....i made it 7.75 feet to use on cb as well. my question is do you have to use the supplied wire or could I use my aluminium ring? my loop calculator says it will be 71% efficient and will tune for 27.400. any thoughts?

I just bought this little guy and haven't tried it yet but one thing I'm wondering about. Other sites on magloops indicate that the diameter of the loop conductor needs to be large to get any reasonable efficiency, that's why most loops are made with 1/2 to 1" tubing like copper pipe. The wire included by MFJ is only 20ga or something like 0.03". Is there something special about the design of the MFJ that makes it work better with small gauge wire? Or should I go right for something bigger like 1/4" copper tube?

+Jason Livingston I am experimenting with thicker gage wires as well.....lov the tuner. I have a hula-hoop that I use to wrap the wire with the one it came with and works great....perfect circle and you can loop the wire around it to use more length.... Next one will be a tubing....I am wondering what should I do to have a multi band loop....maybe two different size of tubing or wire within the loop connected together at the nuts??? any thoughts?

Tried my loop today and could not get my SWR down. I have to pick up my. Not sure if my tuner is malfunctioning. Will have to get an antenna tuner to see what I can find out. Used 10 gauge wire. 13 ft. 20m SSB

+rds801 Thats what i do some bands id im having trouble, i will get the loop to maybe a 3:1 then pick it up with the internal tuner on the radio, but the big tuner i did the 935b i got the tape measure loop antenna down to 1.0:1 no tuner needed..

+HamRadioConcepts --- that's great to know the 935 can get it to 1:1 but you can't get that close with the cheaper low wattage one? $210 versus $60 price is pretty significant even though the 150w versus 25w is a good point to be made. Good to know that the lower wattage one may not work too well, and surprised that MFJ would not make that clear.
