We just bought one of these last night. We used to go to at a few festivals every summer. Finding electric hookups can be difficult when it's first come, first served. At times, we would arrive a week before the event and all the sites were already gone. We had 2 Duracell power stations, which would run his cpap about 5 hours before dying. We've not gone in about 5 years, since my husband's cpap stopped us from camping rough. I'm excited to try this thing out. If it does what's claimed, we can get back to rough camping. I'm so excited!

I'd recommend you to get a DC (12V) charger for your camera battery. There's a pretty significant loss from converting DC (internal baterry) to AC (inverter) back to DC (camera battery).

Do you know if the battery is replaceable? What is the best way to transfer power from this to another battery? Would a Lighter plug attached to two alligator clips work?

A good follow up video would be to compare this one to perhaps a cheaper option and then do some tests to see how the more inexpensive version compares. Good video! 👍🏻

We are able to order from places more now and not worry about shipping we are about to order the kit. Great review. I have an opportunity to receive any one of the following GZ 500x Yeti, Wagan Tech Lithium Cube 500 or Lion Safari LT Portable Generator. I'm choosing the GZ Yeti but curios if you had any experience with the other two and or if you would steer towards either of the other options. thanks!

I'm sure they list it on the site, but would love to hear how long it lasted in real tests on using it for something but like a tv or the smoker. How long to charge back up in real world tests. Also if it had issues when getting at say 30% holding the load.

Those are great suggestions. I'll do a short follow up stress test video. I'm planning to smoke ribs this week. That's only a 5hr burn but i'm curious to see where the battery % is after that.

500watt unit. IE 100watt device 5hours. etc. This is pure 5-12volt out. 110/120volt AC will be slightly less due to conversion and transformer conversion power loss since even pure sinewaves will have a % of loss. You need to understand your power demand and device power. IE 12volt at 5amps = 60watts. about 8hours of consistent use. So saying 'TV or Smoker' doesn't exactly say anything to lasting, Because those don't explain specific specs on their power demand and performance. All goal zero products have safety systems built into them that allow all Yeti's to run completely dead with no probs. So for Lithiums and acids. You'll beable to power the same amount of output till it hits 0. Then the unit just shuts down. You could return it on for a % more if you try running something less. say, running AC and switch to 5volts. You'll get abit more juice to run before it'll shut down again and then you're done. There is no degrading % of power lose from the ports. Acids also don't have the fault of the famous Myth of keep the battery above 50% or you end up damaging it. Because their voltage system cuts off the battery at such point. So even tho the battery % reads 0. The internal battery is above it's voltage of safety levels to keep it from breaking down.

How long does it take for the Nomad 50 to recharge the Yeti 500x starting at empty? Nvm, found it. 12-24 hrs. :/
@KillerRaptorr
@KillerRaptorr 4 жыл бұрын
You are looking at 50watts. and that's a rough % on best cases. The 500x can Maximum input (180W): 3 hrs charge in. So 4 50's = 200watts. correctly aiming them at sun during a morning to noon time. You'd beable to charge it before noon. If the day is sunny. Cloudy or fade clouds will decrease. The best option always to think from. Is double your wattage income. If you want say 200watts. Get 400watts. This'll remove the dips of lower wattage during cloudier times, and will be less stress on having to aim all the time.

For the nomad 50 panels that i have it says 12-24 hrs. So that will all depend on how much sun you're getting and that the panels are tilted to the prime angle for sun absorption.

About your laptop connection. I have a 3-prong AC power adapter on my laptop and it looks like on the Yeti the ground plug is plugging into an empty space under the two prong is that true or is that an actual housing for 3 prong adapters? For me that ground safety issue is the deal breaker for me, thank you if you can answer.
@KillerRaptorr
@KillerRaptorr 4 жыл бұрын
These kind of devices don't require a ground because their not stationery. There is no ground on most portable solar generator systems. So the hole under the plugs is just a hole for the ground port to fit in. You only require the two main ports for AC power. The ground is only required on station systems like in your home because of surges going into the device. The ground is ment to refire the surge into the ground, vs straight into the device. but since these generators have a consistent uninterrupted power that's stable all the time. There isn't a need for it because surge power cannot pass from the battery to the device.

You could do another test of charging on a cloudy day, the battery was already at 100%, so that is one option for why it was not inputting high numbers. I have a yeti 400 and love it, it does charge on cloudy days, but even in the sun if it is full, it doesn't keep charging.
